The last time Jake Peavy pitched in an LCS he gave up 7 ER in 3 IP against Detroit in the 2013 ALCS.
The last time Jake Peavy faced the Cards in the playoffs, he got lifted after giving up 6H, a walk and 2 ER over 4 IP in the 2013 WS.

It's hard to believe that he's the Giants' #2 starter, but here we are.

If it comes to it, I can live with a Giants-Royals WS. Hell, I'd even get excited to watch that.

Is this a city thing, a Cardinals thing, or both?

Because while I have no desire to live in St Louis, the best baseball development in my lifetime is the Red Sox becoming more like the Cardinals. And the more like the Cardinals they become, the better.

I understand why they are hated. Half the baseball world would give their left nut for Molina. The half that wouldn't would give their right nut for Matheny as their manager. For the next 20 years.

I just can't get a Pittsburgh Steelers level of hatred up for these guys. Even though my National League team is the Nationals. I want my teams to be just like them.
This is as far as I've gotten into this thread, but I wanted to respond.

As a die-hard Giants fan lacking possession of (though thoroughly appreciative of) nuts, I would give up neither my left tit nor my right tit for Molina or Matheny. I'd much rather have Posey and Bochy, though Matheny is an incredible manager, too. But I don't think Bochy is going to last 20 more years.

Anyway, great game tonight for the Giants. It's not pretty, and it's not always loud, but we just seem to win in October. It's insane. We take advantage of mistakes and just don't let go. Also, having Madison Bumgarner (and balk-averse umpires) doesn't hurt.

Holy crap, another gender heard from with an "I wouldn't give parts" post!

I have no idea how Matheny is as a manager, but he seems like a cold fish. Bochy is like the Little League kid's grandfather that everybody loves when he comes out to coach the team and gets every possible bit of talent out of a bunch of mostly average players. Yadier is a great catcher but Posey isn't bad either and he may be the best quiet team leader around. Really, how do we know if Matheny is a good manager or if it's the great Cardinals system that brings the team success?

I never equated tits to nuts, but that's just me.

Agree with your Matheny assessment as far as emotion. Comes from the stone faced Tony LaRussa mold. Haven't heard Bochy speak much before last night, but clearly being a silver tongued smoothie isn't what he's getting paid to do. Seems genuine, and yes, the Cards have a much better organization through and through, and it's a credit to Bochy to be playing even with them now.

I don't know, I thought Matheny had a touch of Scioscia Face going on last night. Not a good look for a playoff manager.

I'm struggling to remember what Scioscia looked like during the 2002 playoffs. I was too happy to see Barry Bonds not win a WS that I ignored everything else.

Oh, I wondered what the thing was. “@SixToolPlayer: "The thing about Lance Lynn is, throw the numbers out." -- Harold Reynolds”

So, did Adam Wainwright have an excuse for being mediocre against the Giants like he did for his World Series game 1 stinker versus the Sox last year?
Sore elbow.  He is like Chris Carpenter except that he actually pitches in the game.

And speaking of not fooling anyone, here's the man who operated a one card monte stand at Fenway Park, Jake Peavy.
He's pretty good at it.  Grab some pine, meat.

Hunter Pence looks like a really bad fielder

What I meant is that he takes some really weird routes.

Panik is the Giants MVP.   This kid never hits like he has and they don't make the post-season.

Where did he emerge from? He's the one Giant who came out of nowhere (at least to a bandwagon fan like me).

I know he's not actually a shitty fielder, he just took a weird route to the ball. To my eyes, he made the play harder than it had to be.

Its true.  His mechanics are absolutely unique to him and if any kid started doing what he does they would run into all sorts of trouble.

1st round pick from a few years ago. From what I read, this is about as good as he's going to be. His minor league numbers mostly agree.

The SF farm system had been incredibly productive — Cain, Lincecum, Panda, Posey, Bumgarner, Crawford, Belt, Romo, etc. — and my feeling is that people started to downplay those prospects whose ceiling topped out at "acceptable regular."

We were the beneficiary of that with Edwin Escobar. He wasn't likely to shake out to be Matt Cain, so he was expendable.

The thing about Harold Reynolds is that you can throw out the numbers on him.  In all seriousness, its amazing how well liked he is by casual fans, at least those with whom I am familiar.

It's always interesting when a #1 pick pans out just in time. Good rookies can do great things (ELJE&DP2007)

Carpenter is a disaster at third.

Against the Giants, yes. He looked like a five-tool player against the Dodgers, though.

Back in the waning days of Barry Bonds, I thought Travis Ishikawa was the Giants' next franchise left fielder, a future superstar who would lead them to pennant after pennant. After tearing up the Cal League, he'd come up as a September call-up and raked.

It turns out that I was... correct?
