That lummox in left is quite the slick fielder, I'll give him that.

He might be able to hit the shit out of the ball, but he can't catch it to save his life.

Mets couldn't buy hits and runs for the first ~ half of the season

The Mets offense was atrocious for the first half.

I mentioned this yesterday, but the Mets for most of the year were running out multiple players with sub-700 OPSs (backup C with 200 PA's is ~.500, backup 3B is ~600)... Cespedes, Wright, D'Arnaud, Conforto, even Duda (so, 3-7 of the lineup) were out or not on the Mets for significant portions of the year. This is a totally different team than the one that couldn't score more than 3 runs in May-July.

Cubs respond with a good morning, good afternoon and good night 1, 2, 3 bounce back inning.

Good effort, good job.

If Mets win it all, they should give a ring to the Nationals for letting them have this opportunity by underperforming so much

Seeing that smarmy ballbag get bounced in four strait is the cherry on this Cubs shitshow sundae.

He'll just say it was good experience for the young guys on the team, they're ahead of schedule, and they just need a few more pieces

In other words spread the blame elsewhere

Oh, absolutely - this doesn't happen (Cespedes deal, trying to get Wright back, pushing the young starters) if the Nationals have a 10 game lead by the all star break, which was there for the taking if they didn't fall apart so badly.

They're actually a good test for what you think about the playoffs defining the 'best team' - I think there's a decent chance the Mets are the best team in the NL as currently constructed, but there's absolutely no argument that the Cubs/Pirates/Cardinals were better teams over the entire year.

I understand the logic behind holding Lester back for Game 5, but did the Cubs really think they were going to win another bullpen game after using six relievers yesterday?

That will be him in the post game press conference, all the while rolling a couple of ball bearings in his hand wanting to know who ate the strawberries.

When the Mets finish this LCS, I wonder if they become the rhino vs. the mosquito like I heard the Sox vs. the Cards described in 04, no matter who they face.
