Regardless of how this NLCS goes, Cubs' window of contention has opened up early with this season

That's the most fun thing about this series - both teams are really a year ahead of schedule.  The Mets weren't supposed to have their pitching gel this quickly (Harvey came back much better in his first year after TJ than most, Syndergaard being that good his rookie year), and barely had enough hitting to stay around long enough to force the Cespedes deal. Cubs hitting probably should've taken another year to come together as well, but.. it's more fun when young teams are in the playoffs!

Perhaps the cubs can pull a 04 Sox?

because that would be amazing?
All I'm saying is, don't let us win tonight, because then we've got Lester, then Arietta, then the tomato can who pitched tonight..............ah never mind, we're screwed.

It would be both New York teams blowing 3-0 leads against the 2 most "cursed" teams. But the 0-3 comeback belongs to the Red Sox in MLB and I never want to share

The Cubs leadoff hitters are 0-for-23 leading off innings this series? That's insane.

I'd expect something outside the box from Maddon in an elimination game.  He pretty much went with a bullpen game in Game 4 against the Sox in 2013 and it almost worked.

I'd roll the dice with Lester in 4, Arrieta in 5, hope you get lucky in 6 and that way you have both Lester and Arrieta available for multiple innings in Game 7 if all goes as planned.

Hammel is scheduled to go.  Be interesting to see if they'll change that.  Although someone beside Lester and Arrieta are going to have to win a game sometime if the Cubs are going to come back.
I mean, ANYONE has to win a game at this point.

I think it's more likely that he goes bullpen game tomorrow--Hammel starting with an insanely quick hook.  The bullpen went 5 tonight, but no one threw as many as 20 pitches.

Found this elsewhere, but if you want a good reason why the Mets team in the playoffs is so much better than their early-season record, check out their BRef page (http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/NYM/2015.shtml) - the top players by PA at 4 of 8 positions (C, 3B, LF, CF) aren't starting in the postseason... a good example of how injuries can sink a team, but they can also completely overhaul a team if they come back towards the end of the season

Just a remarkable turnaround from the terrible offense for the first half of the year.

It was tough to watch the depressed faces of Cubs fans in the crowd shown on the broadcast last night, knowing that was us not too long ago.  What a nut punch this series has been for those fans.

Who cares? They knew the deal when they signed up to be Cubs fans.

ONE MORE WIN.

It is no 2003.   This is more of a tap to the nuts if anything.

The Cubs are young, and seriously, who are they losing after this year?  The teams with the most win-now pressure are the Jays and the Mets because they will lose significant pieces to the teams they're fielding now in the offseason.

This WSJ article by Brian Costa and Jared Diamond makes some interesting observations about Mets pitchers and fast balls.

In their first seven postseason games, the Mets have thrown 413 pitches at 95 mph or faster, according to pitch-tracking data maintained by the website Baseball Savant. That’s around 41% of their total pitches, far more than any other team.
Since 2008, when such data became available, no team has thrown more than 29% of their pitches at such blistering speed in a single postseason.
In terms of pure speed off the mound, the Mets have been in a class of their own all season long. They threw 22% of their pitches during the regular season at 95 mph or above, according to Baseball Savant. No other team in the majors threw more than 15%.

Is there a win probability out there for the cubs to take the series?  I  poked around but couldn't find what I was looking for.  Does this only work in the context of in-game scenarios?
