At least we got to hear the (eternal) callbacks to the 2004 ALCS. Nobody has ever come back from 0-3 down, exceeeeeeeepppttt...

I'm not sure who I'd root for between Houston and the Dodgers, but I damn sure want to find out.

Houston, easily. Always root for the team that has never won a title. If both have, root for the team that has gone the longest without -- unless it's the Yankees, because fuck them

LA: Hershiser, Koufax, Lasorda, Vin

NY: Reggie, Rivera, Jeter

HOU: Ryan, GW Bush....and something related to hurricane relief
Lasorda can be in charge of the pasta buffet in the Club. He doesn't deserve to be in front of RR, Fernando,or Kirk. I guess I can see him throwing to Piazza or something. But too much depth and he isn't that far removed.

Lasorda belongs in a very special lowest ring of fucking Hell for the miserable scumbag he was and is as a father.

Also, I had to check to be certain, Larsen is the sole surviving player who appeared in The Perfect Game, which seems rather appropriate.

The whole team laid an egg, they either hit the ball nine miles or struck out, led by Mr "Respect ME!!" himself, he hit a whopping .135 for the playoffs.

I really wish the Indians had found a way not to shit themselves last year, the Cubs deserve to be miserable for all of eternity; imagine how sad those faces in the crowd would have been last night had then not pulled a WS win out of their collective asses last year....................Go Dodgers.....................

As someone who shared this view until I actually read the GQ article about his son, Tommy Lasorda was not a bad father.

Curious. What is the source of this animus?
I guess it's got more to do with Maddon than anything else, not necessarily the fans as I was once in their shoes up until 2004...............the fans are really the ones who carry the cross, the players come and go, the fans are there forever.

You're entitled to your opinion. Despite whatever one article may say, the facts are he disowned his kid the instant he came out, had no direct contact with him from then on til the day he died, insisted to everyone before, at the time of his death and even today, insists his son was never gay and that he 'died of cancer'. He's a fucking bigot, a liar and a consummate asshole.

Yeah, he absolutely did not disown his kid. You're just flat-out wrong there.

Do me a favour and go read Peter Richmond's GQ article on Lasorda.

I have read that load of bullshit, and you are free to believe an article designed to promote the scumbags attempts to rewrite history. Now you go read every other article written during his son's years after he came out, after he became sick, after he died absolutely none of which support the bullshit spewed in that maudlin crap. Then show me any sources or citations that support of prove his nonsense. Why you need to believe that article so desperately says more about you than it does about reality or bigot Lasorda. Perhaps you can read the screeds of Mel Gibson's Dad and his pals and be persuaded there was no Holocaust, I'm not privy to just how credulous you are.

I've read all of them and most of them have no sources whatsoever. The one article by Peter Richmond, which he wrote at the expense of his relationship with Lasorda, talks to Lasorda, players and at least half a dozen of his son's friends, several of whom went on record. The handful of other articles that have any sourcing beyond innuendo present Lasorda as a deluded man who nonetheless adored his son, called him every day, and took him constantly on road trips well into adulthood. Tommy Jr basically never held a job yet lived an extravagant lifestyle, last time I checked disowned kids didn't get access to a massive trust fund.

You're the one who needs to show his work here, not me. Unless you knew Tommy Jr personally, you're talking out out of your ass.

You're the one who needs to show his work here, not me. Unless you knew Tommy Jr personally, you're talking out out of your ass.

Let's start with a few simple questions:

What do you believe his son's "illness" was ?
What do you believe was the actual and proximate causes of his death ?
Are you aware that the death certificate which claims his death was from 'pneumonia and cancer' also states that the proximate cause was 'probable acquired immunity deficiency syndrome'.
Why do you think he lived the last half dozen years of his life with a male hairdresser who was commonly known to be his lover in LA. ?

I guess your argument comes down to Lasorda lies and denies all this reality but still 'loved' his son (in the condescending, pitying way all bigots claim to have compassion for degenerates). No I didn't mean he literally disinherited his son, he abandoned him for all practical purposes until they swooped in for control as he was dying so they could attempt to control the narrative.

Then you add bullshit like 'took him on road trips well into adulthood", yes until his best pal on the Dodgers became Glenn Burke, the first MLB player to acknowledge he was gay, afro-american who also died of AIDS in 1995. Shortly before he was interviewed by the NY Times
http://www.nytimes.com/1994/10/18/sports/boy-summer-s-long-chilly-winter-once-promising-ballplayer-glenn-burke-dying-aids.html?pagewanted=all

Like I said, you can believe what you want but every intelligent person knows who and what Lasorda was and what his son was. I'm done with this, when you're done rehabilitating Lasorda you can move on to helping the Paterno family rehabilitate their misunderstood Dad.

Your temper tantrum is moving the goalposts, pal. You claimed Tommy Jr was disowned by his father and lived alone in estrangement until his dying moments. Meanwhile, the truth is he was a cherished son who talked to his father every day, went on road trips wellllll after Glenn Burke stopped being a Dodger, and certainly was supported financially like a man in his family's good graces. Tommy Jr would bring his just as outre friends into the clubhouse and be treated like a king by his father. He loved his son, it doesn't really fucking matter how he copes with it via his death certificate. Although Tommy Sr started doing AIDS fundraisers after his son's death, which doesn't seem like a coincidence.

At a time when thousands of gay men were living and dying completely alone, Tommy Lasorda was a part of his son's life on a daily basis. The way he did it may not qualify him for a PFLAG Father of the Year award, but I suspect there are plenty of people who wish their relationship with their parents could rise to being as dysfunctional as Tommy Jr's. Your desire to control the narrative can't change that, and I'm very sorry you're so angry about it.

As an aside, the Glenn Burke story is really sad, but it's hard to separate the homophobia from the .235 batting average with zero power or walks.

I didn't expect you to answer any of the questions, or his continued denials of all reality. He 'cherished' a person who did not exist as he continued to deny, be ashamed of the actual person who lived and only managed to avoid treating him like he did every other gay person. And I'm sure http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2003-12-10/news/0312100141_1_charity-hollywood-star-events

is just an unfortunate coincidence and THE ONLY evidence I am able to find that Lasorda ever organized, attended or otherwise tried to raise any funds for AIDS. Speaking of people who throw around completely unsupported claims, why don't you source anything but the article which seems to be your Bible on the matter? All you do and have ever done is parrot that article.

Update:

https://books.google.com/books?id=UCh_kLqVY24C&pg=PT63&lpg=PT63&dq=Tommy+Lasorda+Jr+foundation&source=bl&ots=eIYHi-BPTj&sig=FrSq_ePRqNsEsCoQ-VOfIGSMGnU&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiB0eTby4HXAhVGMSYKHfFVClcQ6AEIUzAJ#v=onepage&q=Tommy Lasorda Jr foundation&f=false

Lasorda, the Tommy Jr. Foundation, which has NEVER been about AIDS, and seems to mostly try and get things named in Jr's honor. The most recent audits seem to show it's been moribund since 2013 a year where it's total funds and fundraising seem to have been less than $1,500.00.
