Better pull your ace 5th inning in a tie game to get a shitty hitter a 2 out AB.

I really don't understand this over-managing in the post-season. Baseball has changed in the last decade, but it is weird to take Kershaw out after 87 pitches.

How do you feel about robot umps behind the plate?
Honestly, having this instant replay system without an automated strike zone seems sort of half pregnant to me. Either turn it over to technology in total, or keep in human in total. I could live with either, I suppose, but I don't really like the way it is now.

Umpire union would strike if they try and have auto strike zone.

Why? They could still have a home plate umpire. The calls would be made by some type of K-zone and instantaneously relayed to the HP ump, who would declare it. And he'd still make the calls at the plate(subject to review, of course)

Darling having a meltdown, wouldn't be surprised to have MLB have him removed.

Wish the umps announced the call to the stadium tho.

I can't find it in the rule, but I believe that I've read that in an ump's manual or a memo or some guidance about the rule that in order for the catcher to be deemed to block the plate in the act of fielding, the catcher must wait to move until the ball is even with or has passed the runner on the way to the plate. By that interpretation, he is safe, because he started to block while the ball was still about three to four feet from passing the head of the runner.

He conveniently forgets that back in ye olden days the runner would have ran straight through the catcher and ended up being safe.

Given how Contretas was standing it would've been a repeat of the Buster Posey play and then he wouldn't shut up about that.

Contreras basically sat on the corner of the plate the other night {denying the runner Turner a clear path to the plate} while the throw was halfway to the plate from 2B and got away with that one.

If running through the catcher was still a thing, Contreras would have stood differently.

The overreactions at second and at home suck. And the middle infielders and catchers I've heard talk about it agree.

So if you're the ump, and Maddon comes out and loses his mind, what do you even say?

What the fuck you yelling at us for Joe? We're the ones who said he was out you dummy.

Hey darling. If this rule didn’t exist
Culberson would have just trucked the catcher.

And then someone ends up in the hospital

What? The Sox never should have traded him and 2013 doesn't happen without him. Get over it.

So you don't argue? WTH?
If Maddon wants to try to fire up his guys or whatever that's fine. Managers get themselves run all the time to make a point. But usually it's with the guy who made the call. Yelling at the guys who agreed with you but got overruled is like yelling at the ball boy.

Edit: Sorry, just saw your edit.

Completely agree. The wailing about the athletic play would be replaced by a football play of how big a hit the catcher can take while holding on to the pass. No thanks unless we will allow tackling at every base.
