What's the general consensus on Mac's footwork? We know that Brady and Peyton are 2 of the smartest QBs ever and they are/were very quick to get the ball out unless going for a big play. Does Mac possess that kind of footwork and quick trigger?

Maybe, but why would Shanahan choose to fly to watch Mac Jones throw and not Fields when the workouts were the same day? You don't need to smokescreen.
It didn’t make as big of a headline, but we later found out that Fields had scheduled another pro day which the 49ers were set to attend. The smokescreen may have been media manufactured.

Mac's mechanics are inconsistent. His footwork often leads him to sailing balls or balls dying. He has a strong arm between the numbers and can dial it up in the short and intermediate range. he can use touch too. He is not pinpoint accurate but more generally accurate. Throws with anticipation. Read defenses much better this year. He's a glorified game manager.

Tom Brady and Payton Manning both had elite pocket presence. Tom also got rid of the ball quickly. They mitigated the impact of their shortcomings.

Matt Schaub ran Shanny's offense. Mac Jones could run boot action. It wouldn't be his best fit imo but I think he is mobile enough to do it too.

When I think of an immobile QB coming into the draft it's Kyle Trask. When you are that immobile you really need to have elite pocket presence and a quick release to survive and Trask has neither.

You and others on this board have successfully talked me off of the Kyle Trask bandwagon, which I was probably leaning towards during the season.

Another shocking development:

The 49ers have signed Nate Sudfeld ... to go along with Rosen and Josh Johnson. Maybe they won't draft a quarterback!!!

Strange. Sudfeld must have turned down a 9 figure contract offer from Philly first. I mean, you had to see what he had.
