Let's see what that TB deal looks like because if they didn't give up roster depth they are fucking stacked. Otherwise, it would be hard to be on board with a massive roster overhaul if I'm a TB fan.

Bob McKenzie tweeted the return for McDonagh and it's only 1 player off the TB roster and they keep Sergachev. What a gigantic steal for TB.

The return is Libor Hajek, Brett Howden, Vladislav Namestnikov, 2018 1st rd pick, conditional 2nd rd pick.

Namestnikov is a solid player, but not a huge loss with Miller coming back.

Yeah, Namestnikov is quite a bit better than Spooner. Hajek is probably higher up the prospect chain than Lindgren was for the B's. Brett Howden is also fairly highly touted and could crack the Rangers roster next year. And the extra pick is a 2nd, not a 7th. And there's no Belesky going to the Rangers.

I watched Namestnikov for three seasons in Syracuse, he's a very good player and I'm kind of shocked they gave him up. Yzerman and BriseBois both talked highly of him.

I don’t think this was a fleecing.

Namestnikov - Miller is a pretty neutral swap. Cap friendly is down, but I believe Namestnikov needs a new contract, Miller might be signed longer. I don’t think they were going to pay Vlad with some of the players that need new deals soon for Tampa.

Howden, Hajek, 1st, another pick for McDonagh is a substantial package. Bruins equivalent is probably Frederic, Vaakanainen, 1st.

I'm not sure how good Gorton made out with the Nash and McDonagh deal. They now have a ton of picks, but the BOS/TB 1sts are low and they got maybe 1 elite-level prospect in the deals. Howden could be a very good center. Namestnikov is another guy with effort questions defensively like Spooner.

Who would have said no to Donato, Spooner, Lindgren, 1st, 2nd for McDonough and Miller?

Two problems:

One is that the Bruins would still have been stuck with Beleskey's full salary. Second is that your prospect list does not nearly match what Tampa gave up.

I'm sure they could have worked something out with Vegas for Belesky.

Also, the Bruins have the prospects to make up for the difference. I just hate what we have up for 2 months of Nash compared to what TB gave up for those two.

Fake edit: just looked up the contracts and it's maybe not as bad as I think. JT Miller is an RFA.

The Rangers got a pretty good offensive D prospect, a 2 way center prospect, a decent RW that needs linemates to push him, a 1st and a second for a top 2 D and a top 6 C/RW. Not the haul they were expecting, I'm sure. I feel like Yzerman did really well here.

The bolded would have involved either taking on something from Vegas or giving up yet another prospect or pick. It's not nearly a simple as stated.

Bottom line is that the Bruins didn't want to empty the bank for McDonagh; remember the earlier rumors that the asking price was DeBrusk plus picks/prospects, and it's possible the Rangers were not coming down from that. Much, much rather give up Spooner (who is really not rated all that highly across the league) than DeBrusk.

The Bruins deal for Nash seems right in line with the market. It’s hard to parse out because of the included cap dump component, but I look at is as a 1st and Lindgren (an prospect outside the organization’s top 10) for Nash; Spooner and a 7th for the Rangers to take half of Beleskey’s contract.

Stastny went for a 1st, prospect and 4th

Kane went for a conditional 1st, a so/so prospect, and another draft pick

Parsing out the McDonagh deal, it’s basically Miller for Namestnikov, then a 1st, 2nd, and two high end prospects. Tampa is getting a real good player, but they paid quite a lot.

Sweeney’s post-deadline press conference:

- Was asked about Tampa’s moves, declined to speak about any player other than to say they were “well aware of the market.” Sounds like they balked at the Rangers ask for McDonagh.

- He answered “hope so” when asked about bringing Rick Nash back after the season. Regarding that trade, he said the Rangers were pretty target specific with asking for Lindgren. B’s felt it was doable due to depth.

- Lot of deals for depth. Mostly insurance against injury and rookies hitting the wall. Mentioned Carlo sitting last night, these moves give them a chance to give guys breathers if they feel they need them. Some of the rookies may, others may not. Wingels can play 2, maybe 3 positions. Harped on how they weren’t able to withstand the injury bug last year in the Ottawa series, hopes they’re better positioned for this season.

- Postma headed to Providence to play.

- They’ll talk to Donato when his season ends. They project him as a wing, Olympics showed offense is there. Said they believe Donato wants to be a Bruin, will see after his season ends if there is something that fits between Ryan and the team.

- I didn’t hear the question to prompt the answer, but Sweeney had good reviews on Emil Johansson. Had a big weekend in Providence.

They won’t lose due to lack of depth this year, that’s for sure.

FWIW, apparently they were really aggressive on McDonagh, per Conroy. I’d be curious to know if it was today or before the Nash deal.

I like the fact that they seem to be aware that running everyone out there for 82 games might not be ideal. With the playoffs essentially clinched, every single player on the roster should be getting at least a game or two off in March, especially on back-to-backs.

IF our top line is performing at their customary level, Krejci is Playoff Krejci and Rask catches fire... this team can make a run.

Lack of depth could have made the above mean nothing. I think the team made trades that only can help... who cares about picks that probably never make it or Ryan Fucking Spooner?

Wonder if they offered someone like DeBrusk or Heinen along with Carlo for McDonagh and could've gotten Nemenstiknov along with him.
Carlo was definitely in the discussion. I don’t believe he was held out last night to rest or get a better perspective from the press box.

Not sure how they could have done that. Doubtful Tampa would have traded Namenstiknov to Boston just to facilitate the B's getting McDonagh from the Rangers.
