Per source, the Montreal Canadiens have been engaged as a third-party team in an Erik Karlsson trade.

MacKenzie says Ottawa is no longer just listening, but actively negotiating different trade possibilities for Karlsson with a few teams.

Team USA Olympic captain Brian Gionta could potentially have an NHL contract by Monday's deadline. Couple of teams in the East with interest and it's believed Boston could be one of them.

Between here and everywhere.
Evander Kane was scratched from tonights Buffalo game.

He's someone I can see the Bruins being interested in. 25+ goal scorer. Last year of a 6 year deal. Only 5.25 against the cap. Tough player who can drop them when needed.

He's a more skilled, less tough Lucic. He fills a hole on this years team.

Plus..

I can't imagine it would take too much to acquire him. I'd love to see it happen.

He also called out Kevan Miller on twitter last year for ‘dodging’ a fight - conveniently, it was the last meeting of the year, and Kane’s still never played an NHL playoff game.

I don’t think he’ll be worth his price from Buffalo. Funny enough, given the Chris Stewart deal discussed a few years back, Spooner and a 2nd would be reasonable.

The Island
Summing up HNIC’s intermission crew:

-drive to make a deal between Sens, Karlsson; Friedman says if Sens insist on Namestnikov from TB with futures, Yzerman does it. Cole isn’t even going through immigration, as Sens will deal him.

-Pacioretty wants to go. Minnesota and LA in the conversation there. Plekanec pursued by Winnipeg, Toronto, TB.

-Rick Nash sweepstakes favour Bruins, but another move needed.

-Jack Johnson talks with CBJ broke down.

-Loose ends on Chris Kelly (West Coast team), Jarome Iginla (iffy for this year’s playoffs), John Hynes (option picked up to coach NJD).

Couple other quick notes: if WIN looks for a depth LD, one possibility is Viktor Antipin from BUF. He played for Paul Maurice in KHL...also FLA, which snared a huge win tonight, showing serious interest in Ryan McDonagh from NYR.

Why'd Wardo hashtag me in this one?
I don't' spend a lot of time on Twitter, nor do I listen to a lot of sports-related podcasts, so I searched the Twitters for that hashtag and discovered it references The TF Podcast - a self-described "opinionated & politically incorrect sports podcast".

I'll pass. If you describe your show as "opinionated and politically incorrect", the level of discourse is likely that of the comments section of Fox News dot com.

I thought he said he was retired after the Olympics? Either way, good for him.

Sweeney on Rick Nash. Glad he wasn't satisfied with the status quo.

Bruins GM Don Sweeney on Rick Nash's role:

"We hope he's the impact player he has been. I think we've identified that playing on that second line with David [Krejci] would be a boost to our hockey club and we need it to be."

Can’t really see where he’d fit, unless they’re willing to healthy scratch him. I guess 4th line, and he could be an insurance policy on Heinen and DeBrusk hitting a wall?

I don’t really get it either, think the bigger need is still on D... but if they think they can’t get a D man and the cost for Maroon isn’t prohibitive, they’ll stack the offense? Move DeBrusk to 4th line, scratch Schaller, and play Maroon with Krejci and Nash? Doesn’t seem like the most logical move but again if it’s not cost prohibitive trade wise and they can fit it in the cap I guess so?

Marchand-Bergeron-Pasta
Maroon-Krejci-Rick
Heinen-Riley-Backes
DeBrusk-Kuraly-Acciari

That is a pretty sick lineup and a little more veteran presence for the playoffs.... though if that was the move don’t see why they would sign Gionta.

Strikes me that there are two big reasons to keep pushing for another wing. 1) the remaining regular season schedule is insane and you can count on someone getting hurt 2) experience for the playoffs in the bottom six.

Being told that @NYRangers Ryan McDonagh sweepstakes is down to 4 clubs. All in the Eastern Conference. Going to come down to if Jim Dolan has laid down the law that we do it right and build from the ground up! Sense management doesn't want to move him but....

4 teams in the East?? TB, Florida, Toronto, then who?? Could the Bruins still be in on him? Devils? Penguins?

I wouldn't be surprised if the Bruins were still in on him but they pretty much have to swap salary 1 for 1. That would be difficult.

FWIW, Custance on the Athletic said he didn’t think the Bruins were completely done and would be monitoring the defense market today. McDonagh ship has probably sailed though, IMO. Toronto and Washington were reported to be in on him as well.

The Winnipeg Jets have acquired forward Paul Stastny from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for a first-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, forward Erik Foley and a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft. Blues keep 50% of Stastny's salary.

The Blues decideded to punt awfully quick. We’ll see who else goes. Rumblings last night that they were looking to unload Sobotka and Berglund.
