If Seattle did pick a UFA and they didn’t want to sign there, they would be free to sign with any other team on 7/28. All Seattle would be drafting is that 7 day negotiating window that the player would have with the team that they finished 20-21 with anyway.
Right. It’s uneven team to team. UFA’s should be in their own different category. IMHO.
you draft a player, he should be yours for at least that year. You lose a player in the draft, you should lose something truly tangible (or gain, if he has an overpriced contract)

if you can only negotiate with one or two teams (even If only for A week), you’re not really unrestricted.

that’s where I’m coming from. Sorry if I’not making sense .

One way to look at it is that there is always a period between the end of the NHL playoffs and the opening of the UFA signing period. During that time, teams are free to exclusively negotiate with their own free agents. No different than any of the other major sports.

Seattle was basically given an opportunity to negotiate with unprotected players from the upcoming free agent pool once the protected lists were submitted. If the player agreed to sign, then that signing is considered their selection. If Seattle drafts the player, and he doesn't sign, he will still become an unrestricted free agent once the UFA signing period opens on the 28th. There's nothing that is uneven.

Thank you for the explanation. Makes more sense to me now. Appreciate it

Calle Jarnkrok from NSH.

Kole Lind from VAN

Mason Appleton from WPG

They haven't really taken any salary. Just Gourde and Giordano at this point.

The 8pm show is now kind of anti-climactic. (Apart from which Bruins 3rd Pairing Dman gets taken)

I get why they would want it, but having it happen 10 hours after the drafting was due to be submitted guarantees that the important information will be leaked.

I don't think there's a great way for them to do it. The early deadline is because the league needs to approve the team and they have to do the player notifications. I guess it's not much different than finding out on twitter, but I assume the players would like a heads up that they need to relocate rather than finding out when a fish is tossed with your name on it during a show.

It's just impossible to put a lid on all the leaks. 32 teams, numerous agents, league sources, etc.

The Kraken didn't take Domi from CBJ as was expected. They took UFA D Gavin Bayreuther (no word on a contract).

The Kraken aren't taking much salary at all. Really wonder what kind of side deals they have in place.

I have a totally unreasonable dislike for Lauzon so I'm not at all upset by this.

There's more to the story, I'd wait until the rest of the day plays out with the side deals. Based on what's been reported, the Kraken are at $55 in cap hits so they've got $26 million with a overly full roster. There's a lot more to come.

I think we're missing Detroit and Chicago. We know Chicago is good at cover ups.

It's probably Stetcher from Detroit.

Just to add on a little bit (and I am no expert, so the more knowledgeable can expand if they feel it necessary), a UFA is basically a straight up free agent once free agency starts and can sign with any other team. With an RFA, the team losing the player has a chance to match the offer given to them. The designation has a lot more to do with post-free agency than the expansion draft.
