Prime-time Bungles! As predictable as the sun rising in the East. What a crazy week in the NFL...very much like week 2.

Crazy NFL weekend given only two home teams won games this week (TB and PIT)

Bengals will be in primetime next week as well in Arizona. Wouldn't be shocked to see another no show performance from them.

Eifert turned into a pumpkin tonight. If he caught the balls that were right to him, it's a different game.

I'm not in love with the idea of a Pats offense with a patchwork O-line and no Lewis or Edelman trying to slow down a Texans D that is in contention for the division lead and playing at home.

Whoa, Andy Dalton was majorly offended by Watt's Red Ryder BB gun remark. "I'm really disappointed in him, he's a player kids and everybody look up to, integrity of the game, wah, wah wah." What a dipshit.

I kind of hate J.J. Watt outside the football field. Just tries too hard, which is a great quality in an NFL player but a lousy quality for a comedian.

To be fair though, Watt said the Texans goal was to make the Red Rifle look like a Red Ryder BB gun. He didn't actually call him a BB gun. Willie McGinest and the guys on NFLN took Watt's side and said "aw, come on, he's only trying to make a joke." So, Watt goes out of his way to make funnies? I didn't know.

I would have zero problem with that remark, but Watt also scolded Mettenberger for taking selfies as if that's below the standard set for a professional athlete's conduct. If he wants to be the fun police, I hope every little joke he makes about opposing players gets scrutinized to death.

I mean - it was a lame joke but Dalton comes off as a little overly sensitive.
A little? It is a lot over sensitive. It was a dumb joke, it wasn't even insulting,("our goal is to try to stop the QB" is an insult?) and it was also based upon what occurred in the game. This is such a great non story.

Watching Dalton's reaction without hearing Watt's comment first would give the impression that Watt used an anti-homosexual slur or something.

Without starting a new thread, who do you guys all see as the biggest threats to the Pats in terms of advancing to the Super Bowl? Cincy was pretty bad last night. Denver was awful this weekend. Pittsburgh is showing some revival. None of us are afraid of Indy.

I'd submit that the two teams that worry me the most in the playoffs would be the Jets and Steelers. Roethlisberger can play with anyone, and the Jets are always a pain in the ass. If NE had to travel to Denver I'd be more worried, but frankly, with Peyton falling off a cliff and their QB situation in shambles, I'm not too worried anymore of them. Cincy on the road would be a stiff challenge to be sure, but I'm just not that concerned if they come to Foxboro. Obviously the Pats couldn't put up a stinker and expect to win, but Cincy coming here should be a win for the Patriots.

So I'd say (1) Pittsburgh, (2) the Jets, and (3) Cincy on the road.

The team I worry about the most at this point is the team sitting on the injury report getting any bigger.

We need a fucking break.

A Tennessee mom to Cam Newton: Here’s what my 9-year-old saw

Congratulations on your win in Nashville today. Our team played well, but yours played better. Kudos to the Panthers organization.

That game happened to be my nine year old daughter’s first live NFL experience. She was surprised to see so many Panthers’ fans sitting in our section of the stadium; that doesn’t happen much at fourth grade football games. And she was excited we were near the end zone, so we would be close to the “action,” particularly in the second half.

Because of where we sat, we had a close up view of your conduct in the fourth quarter. The chest puffs. The pelvic thrusts. The arrogant struts and the ‘in your face’ taunting of both the Titans’ players and fans. We saw it all.

I refuse to believe you don’t realize you are a role model. You are paid millions of dollars every week to play hard and be a leader. In the off season you’re expected to make appearances, support charities, and inspire young kids to pursue your sport and all sports. With everything the NFL has gone through in recent years, I’m confident they have advised that you are, by virtue of your position and career choice, a role model.

And because you are a role model, your behavior brought out like behavior in the stands. Some of the Panthers fans in our section began taunting the hometown fans. Many Titans fans booed you, a few offering instructive, but not necessarily family friendly, suggestions as to how you might change your behavior.

My daughter sensed the change immediately – and started asking questions. Won’t he get in trouble for doing that? Is he trying to make people mad? Do you think he knows he looks like a spoiled brat?

I didn’t have great answers for her, and honestly, in an effort to minimize your negative impact and what was otherwise a really fun day, I redirected her attention to the cheerleaders and mascot.

I could tell she was still thinking about it as we boarded a shuttle back to our car. “I guess he doesn’t have kids or a Mom at home watching the game,” she added.

I don’t know about your family life Mr. Newton, but I think I’m safe in saying thousands of kids watch you every week. You have amazing talent and an incredible platform to be a role model for them. Unfortunately, what you modeled for them today was egotism, arrogance and poor sportsmanship.

Is that what your coaches and mentors modeled for you, Mr. Newton?

Also kind of funny the "pelvic" thrusts issue when she comes from Tennessee.

Pretty famous guy from there... wish I could remember his name... pelvic thrusts...

Serious note, I'm tired of the "you need to help me keep my kids in a perfectly sealed experience bubble of my choice even when I am partaking in an event meant for mass consumption" attitude.

Get over yourself.

But I have to say the NFL is asking for this kind of thing with those "Football is Family" ads they keep running.

At least they fixed that god awful pro shop one where the die-hard family changed allegiances at drop of a hat to one that makes more sense with both grandparents sending team apparel to protect their grandkids from the in-law family influence.

So rather than addressing her young daughter's concern about Cam's dancing and "pelvic thrusts", she redirects her attention to the... cheerleaders. Heckuva job there mom.
I'm almost certain that the daughter didn't have any dirty thoughts about Cam Newton's actions. That sort of thing comes from the mind of an overly sensitive adult - certainly not a 9 year old.

Edit: Unless the mother has a history of acting horrified in the presence of such behavior, thus conditioning the daughter.

If her 9 year old really asked all of those questions, she might have the most thoughtful (this isn't really the most accurate word I am going for but it has been a long day and I can't think straight right now) 9 year old ever.

And I agree with djbayko, any dirty thoughts the 9 year old may have had, were most likely put there by her mother.

My only question about what Cam did was how is that not excessive celebration? Or at least a penalty when he celebrates in the defenders face as the refs step between them? Or does that not count on TDs. I swear that Gruden said that Newton 'doesn't care about personal stats etc etc..just wants to win' or something like that a few weeks back. Made me laugh because if there seems to be little more that Cam cares about than himself, his TDs, his celebrations, etc…I'm sure winning too, but it seems a bit farther down the list than the first three.

The thing that rubs me the wrong way about Cam is that he'll dance and taunt and basically laugh in your face when things are going well. If the game has gone to shit, he'll sit on the bench with that towel over his head sulking like a 6 year old.
