Sorry, I wasn't sure exactly which forum this should go in, but I literally just found out about this today, and immediately went home and subscribed. Basically, for 85.00 a month, for the 4 months of the football season, you can now stream Sunday Ticket on your PS3 without having to sign up for DirecTV or get a dish. It also comes with access to RedZone. If $350.00 sounds steep, it's only like 5 bucks more than DirecTV customers pay for the season.

Not a problem. I was pretty pumped when I found out too. I've been waiting forever for someone to carry Sunday Ticket. It makes a lot of sense to offer it via the PS3. As of this season, it's a Sony exclusive, but I would expect to see it on the 360 next year.

This is awesome, I saw this briefly last in the Psn store and initially thought it was something for only directv subscribers

A similar service was available last year on PC for people with an address that can't subscribe to directv. So as long as you signed up with an apartment address, it would work. A friend of mine had it last year. It was ok, but definitely not worth $350. Very similar to the early years of mlbtv. Low resolution, terrible skipping, and far too many crashes. It seemed like directv/NFL just didn't have the bandwidth or technology to supply the number of users. Hopefully they've upgraded a lot of their server side stuff and will make it worthwhile for you guys.

Yeah I'd really like to see a free preview to make sure there aren't a ton of buffering/crashing issues

Can anyone honestly explain how this is worth $350? It's basically extended NFL coverage, right? Is it really worth paying $350 to be able to see other teams play?

I'm not trying to be sarcastic, I'm really trying to figure out whether I could ever justify paying that much money to see non-Patriots games. Is there something else to this that I'm missing? All the stats/progress type stuff I can view from my netbook/iPad while watching the game. So really, the only true draw seems to be being able to watch every game. Maybe I'd be down for $100, but $350?

H78, if you don't live in your home team's market it would save you a ton of money vs. going to bars each week to watch your team's games.

This is what Direct TV "charges" regular subscribers (they have all these discounts this year and if you sign up for a new deal you essentially get it for "free") and this makes it available to people who don't have the means or desire for Direct TV or live in an area where direct TV doesn't work for them (apartments, shacks in the woods, etc). If you love football, hate the teams in your local market, and/or HAVE to see your fav team it might be worth it. One thing to factor in is how much would it cost for you to go to a bar, get drinks and food to see your favorite team play every week (if your team is not local)? Add that up per the number of games you would have to go to the bar to see and then decide if it's worth it. You also have to factor in how many games you would miss because of other obligations or if you get so agitated when they play like shit you have to shut the game off (I'm guilty of that). $350 is a lot of money.

NFL also offers NFL Game Rewind, which lets you watch all games a day or so after they happen via your computer and it's $40 for the year. You get multiple camera angles, including the coach's camera and I think you can choose the audio (home, visitor, national coverage, etc). The quality is supposed to be HD and you get access to all games going back to 2009, including playoffs and Super Bowl. I think this could be a good tool for anyone who wants to watch a lot of video and learn about the game in conjunction with the Clinic threads. Game Rewind lets you use DVR controls to see a specific play/instance from several angles and in slow motion, which can be pretty useful.

The fine print on NFL GR of when games will be posted: All games played on Sunday will be posted in the NFL Game Rewind archive following the conclusion of Sunday Night Football. Monday Night Football games will be posted 24 hours after the conclusion of that game. Thursday Night Football games will be available immediately after the game

Thanks for the feedback guys. I figured if you're a transplant it may be worth it, or if you just aren't a fan of the home team, but I've had friends who live in N.E. that are fans of the Pats dropping $350 on this thing and I can't figure out how it's worth it. I realize they may just be more into watching other games than I am, but it just seems like something that's not worth $350. That's a lot of money to drop so you can watch Seahawks/49ers, Bengals/Browns, Dolphins/Bills, and other unbearable games. Most other notable games will be either in prime time or broadcast nationally anyways.

I've had Sunday ticket for years, and get an excellent amount of use out of it. Apparently you're much more of a Pats fan than an overall football fan. But there's almost always a week where there are games I want to see that aren't in market. Here's a list of conflicting schedules with games I care to see, because it's not always Bengals/Browns or Dolphins/Bills. For the same reason I get MLB.tv, I get NFL Sunday Ticket, and that's because I really enjoy watching football. And being able to tune into whatever game I want is a lot of fun.

I can certainly see how it would be great to tune into whichever game you wanted. My overall point is whether it's worth the price, but I suppose that depends on who you're asking. I'm a huge football fan as well, but $350 is my entire cable bill for four months, nevermind just an NFL package for four months. I feel like if you sift through all of the crap games thoughout an NFL season, the majority of the good ones will be accessible on network television. I'm sure there'll be games like KC/SD that I'll miss that would be fun to watch over Giants/Redskins, but how many of those non-nationally-televised good games are there, combined, by the end of the year? Maybe 10-15?

I could be off, but it just seems like a huge overpay for what you're getting in return. But to each their own. :)

If your a Patriots fan who lives in Mass, probably not. But someone for me it's definitely worth it. I'm a Lions fan living in PA, my options if I want to watch games at my house are FOX (NFC East: Giants, Redskins, Eagles) or CBS (Steelers, and Jets). If I go to the bar to watch the game I'm dropping $40 bucks easy a sunday, 16*40 = $640 and I'm not really able to even listen to the game when I'm at the bar.

As a Miami fan, it's totally worth it. I see about 5 games a season, so I don't mind dropping the coin to see all the games. Also, they're allegedly all broadcast in HD.

I also think fantasy football is a big driver of Sunday Ticket. Obviously, we now have RedZone, which is awesome, but you're basically seeing things on delay and bouncing at a sometimes frenzied rate to keep up. I wouldn't buy it for fantasy football alone, but the fact that my team is out of market, the games will be in HD, it comes with RedZone, and I'm into fantasy makes it a no brainer for me.

I often opt for bars anyway figuring that if I stay home I'm still likely to spend $15 on average for beer, pizza, chips. Not disagreeing with your math, as the bars are still probably more expensive, but I figure I at least get food cooked for me and rationalize the extra money I pay is for the extra tvs.

Just so you know, if you guys know anyone that already subscribes to the Sunday Ticket when you use their log in information on your PS3 you can watch the games for free that way. I did that today with my friends account info, and it didn't effect his service at all.

I did the same thing, but the service is wicked choppy today. I don't think they were ready for the influx of subscribers online/PS3/tablets. I'm sure they'll fix it.

It's cool they're offering this, and I'm impressed since I thought DirecTV paid through the nose for exclusivity. But I'm with H78 and Pap's Poutine on this one, no way I'd drop $350 even as a transplant...I get a bunch of Pats games anyway and I don't love football enough to pay that. Especially when the packages for the other sports are half the price for 5x as many games (10x as many with MLB).

Yeah, definitely deserved. Totally useless during the early games, got about 3 minutes of video. Pretty good during the late games, not sure if there was just less traffic or what but close to an HD picture and few lags. 2-3 minutes behind real time was the only annoyance. Very nice for gambling purposes if it works.

I had the same issue. Luckily, RedZone was free this week, so I didn't miss much. I went on the Playstation forum, and there was mass uproar. The people that got through to Sony said that the issue was on DirecTV's end, which sounds legit, because DirecTV's online streaming was also shit during the first games. Sony and DirecTV were both aware of the issue, and did a good job of recovering and delivering what was actually a really enjoyable experience for the late slate of games.Once the service was really up and running, I had a really good picture, with pretty much 0 skipping or pausing. I wasn't too bummed out because the Pitt v. Baltimore game was on locally, and, like I said, I had access to RedZone. Really looking forward to this going forward.

Can the login information be used on only one PS3 or can it be used on multiple, like with mlb.tv?

I don't know, but my hunch is no, because they only allow DirecTV/Sunday Ticket subscribers to access the browser-based service on one computer at a time.

Negative. You can use it on more than one device, but not at the same time.

I got this last week because a) I am not a Direct TV subscriber b) I live outside of the NE market c) football is the tits. My review is that it is a completely adequate solution to watch football, but it definitely is not worth the $360 that they are charging for it. It was nice to be able to watch any game I wanted, and the interface is pretty slick. But, the feed was choppy at times (although it improved throughout the day), and very pixelated (especially on wide shots). Also, you can not watch more than one game at a time.

I think I am going to call Direct TV to complain to see if I can get a discount on the cost. It is worth a purchase, but not near the amount they are charging.

Bump. The NOVA-area Patriots meetup group is on its deathbed, so I'm considering how I'll watch football next year. Did the service improve as the season went on? Would you recommend it for next year? Like Papelbon's Poutine said upthread, I'll probably wait until the Pats schedule is announced to pull the trigger. But I'm hopeful that Sunday Ticket on the PS3 is smooth and HD and like MLB.TV on the PS3.

Yeah I'd love to hear reviews as well. I know there's also just DirecTV's streaming package. I'm going to be moving to California in a couple months and while I'll enjoy MLB.TV I'm worried about finding a good way to watch the Pats without having to shell out for a dish. I haven't had cable for 4 years now and I don't want to start now...

The service got better as the year went along, but it was still spotty until the end. Not worth the full price. Also, annoying that they tease features in the app (IE Being able to view games that have been played) that are not functional. If the NFL had any sense of pride, they would see what MLB does with their PS3 app and inform Direct TV that what they produced is unacceptable.

It seems like the NFL is so popular and adored by everyone that they probably don't feel the need to address this. Hopefully somebody shakes up their media division and tries to push them towards more internet streaming options. Regardless of how many people sign up for this thing through DirecTV, you have to imagine their would be millions more willing to play a slightly lower fee in order to watch their teams games on their computer or streaming device of choice, myself included.

MLB and NBA seem leaps and bounds ahead of the NFL in actually be able to view the core content somewhere other than a regular old television.

NFL has GameRewind, which I had this year and it was not too bad, but you have to wait a day and you can't watch it when MNF is on. In terms of watching live games, the NFL locked itself into an exclusive deal with DirectTV for SundayTicket and that limited DirectTV as the only outlet for playing live out of market games.

The NFL extended that deal in 2009 for $4 Billion. Billion with a "B." MLB and NBA did not have anyone knocking down their door with that type of money. Since 2009, technology has improved enough that steaming a live game at a decent bandwidth matches TV, quality-wise for most people. The NFL picked a bad time to have an exclusive deal with another distributor, but now they can develop their own thing or tweak their existing streaming tech to provide a better experience for when their contract with DirectTV ends...after the 2014 season. I can see the NFL ending its exclusive deal with DirectTV for control over online streaming, where they get 100% of the money.

Can someone answer a couple of questions about this for me?

I no longer have cable. Moved in with the GF and neither of us really watch TV, so we didn't get cable. We do have internet, and I do have a PS3. Quite literally, the only thing I watch on TV anymore are Red Sox games, NFL games and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Otherwise, I have no use for it.

I watch Sox games on a stream. However, I really want to watch all HD NFL games through my PS3's internet connection.

I live in South Boston. Are Patriots games blacked out on NFL Sunday Ticket, because they're "in market?" Also, no Monday Night Football, Sunday Night Football, or Thursday Night Football, right?

I'm trying to figure out - and I'm willing to pay for a good service - how to utilize my PS3 to watch Patriots games this season. But I don't want to miss any. I thought NFL Sunday Ticket would be the solution, but I'm starting to realize it won't be at all.

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated! Cable is not an option.

You'll be able to get all the games on CBS, FOX, and NBC by attaching this to your television.

Here's a list of channels you'll get in South Boston by using the antenna.

You won't be able to use the PS3 for most, if not all, Pats games. Any games on ESPN (Monday Night Football) or NFL Network (none currently scheduled) will likely be blacked out as well.

If they do, hopefully they address some of the issues. I had major issues with the quality of the streams and just the general consistency. Lots of times, streams wouldn't load and they would be less than HD quality, for sure. At this point, I would prefer saving my money and just going with RedZone.

They should be offering it this year, but nothing is official yet. I saw that DirectTV dropped the price of NFL ST for subscribers, so I emailed PlayStation Network Customer Service to see if it was going to be cheaper on PS3 and they said DirectTV did not set the price yet. That seems like they are planning it, but there is not much on the PSN webpage and the old Sunday Ticket page re-directs to the main PSN page.

Not sure if that was the link that was redirecting you previously. Although that landing page still looks a bit dated.

If the $149 sticker is accurate, then I may finally take the dive rather than rely on hitting up bars. Tough call.
It doesn't say $149 anymore. Their phrasing is strange:

Now get NFL Sunday Ticket for $99.99 for 2 months. ($199.99 for the remainder of the season.)

Odd. $199.99 for the whole season? Or $99.99 for 2 months, and then an additional $199.99? $200 total is a pretty good deal, I think. That's about 2-4 games worth of bar fare.

Edit: Oops, just saw the big red sticker on the banner ad. $149 is awesome. Almost MLB.tv-level awesome.

Please don't pay the rack rate for any sports packages with Directv. Call them and work out a sweet deal... not that hard at all if you're a current member. They want the subscription counting stats for Ad revenue.

Leverage everything - loyalty, the economy, prior purchases of Extra Innings, Center Ice, movie channels. When you have agreed on a good deal... thank them and ask what else they can give you.

I recently twelve $10 credits for going to autopay and they gave me a free wifi kit ($99) because I wanted to connect to Directv Cinema but don't have a cable connection in my basement.

The worse thing that can happen is they say no... but they will work something out.

Hope it helps!

I called 1-800-directv last night and when prompted for a department I said "RETENTION"

Told the guy on the line is was pissed that I keep receiving mailings about the Sunday Ticket for $350 and seeing commercials with Prime Time offering it for free to me members.

Less than 3 seconds he offered it for half price.

I told him each year I ordered the Extra Innings and Center Ice packages but was thinking of not keeping any if DTV was giving things away at the expense of long standing members.

Results (with zero effort)

- Free Sunday Ticket if I kept the Center Ice Package at last years rate (I negeotiated $160 last year)

- Mentioned the $10 per mo. HD Fee was another rip job that is now free for life with new membership… recd 24 monthly $10 credits as long as I continue with autopay each month

- Didn't have to sign up for another 2 years… means that I will call again before baseball season to receive a discount on the MLB package.

You should call ASAP! If you are a long time customer, I would tell them you're interested in the NBA or NHL packages but want the Sunday Ticket for a deep discount… as in free! I bet you can get the Sunday ticket and the NBA or NHL for less than $200… once you agree on a deal and they are putting everything in the system… ask them for free movie channels… when you call make sure you go to the RETENTION department… they are the dream makers!

Thanks SOSH for the heads up!

Does Comcast do this kind of negotiating? I am an HBO subscriber and buy Extra Innings every year.
Fuck no. At least not in my experience. They go the extra distance to almost never offer promotions for current customers and any time I've tried to negotiate anything with them, they've always just said "tough shit" (which is weird, since I just then go with the cheaper of the two options and they get less money from me...).

Edit: Oops, just saw the big red sticker on the banner ad. $149 is awesome. Almost MLB.tv-level awesome.
Unfortunately the $149 is the price for a single month - not the whole season. The whole season costs 339.95.

Thanks for clearing that up. The pricing is unreasonable, in my opinion. What's the incentive to pay $113.25/mo. for 3 months instead of $99.99/mo for 2 months or $84.99/4 months?
