I think there are a lot of QBs that could do well in Dallas with what they have. That said, pre-injury Dak showed a lot of growth over the previous two seasons and he's a known entity. It's a good day for Dallas.

On the other hand... their offense was really good with him and terrible without him. Given their roster they almost had to bring him back regardless of price unless they wanted to blow it up
With him they scored 9, 15, and 9 against NE, BUF, and PHI down the stretch in 2019 and had another 10 point showing against NO earlier in the season, so maybe it's the offense.

Why are we skipping a season and singling out 4 games against top pass defenses?
In 2020, they had arguably the best passing offense in the league for the 5 games he played and the worst without him, the offense isn't perfect, but with Dak it is still very good, and given the tire fire of a division they are in, with such QB luminaries as Hurts, Jones, and TBD if Dak is anywhere near healthy he makes them clear division favorites.

$126m guaranteed with a no trade clause and no tag provision.

A huge win for Dak.

The entire Wilson saga is so weird and seemed to come out of nowhere. Like who would have guessed that he'd try to force his way out of Seattle? I certainly wouldn't have.

Maybe he wants to join forces with Easterby. While many have recoiled in horror to Chaplain Jack's approach, maybe Wilson likes what he's hearing.

Yeah I never really bought that ATL was going to draft a QB. Julio and Ryan still have plenty of good years left in the tank. They’re not why ATL has struggled. I hope #4 is in play.

They feel like a trade down team. They're more than one dude away from competing and could use a volume injection of talent.

Miami, IMO, is the opposite. They are at the point where they should stay put and take a swing at drafting a superstar.

Per the Rich Hill chart, #4 is worth 491, #15 is worth 315, so need to make up 176 points. #46 is worth 128, thus leaving 48 points. 96 is worth 39 points.

So you could offer 15 + 46 + 96, or 15 + 46 + 2022 2nd, or 15 + 46 + Gilmore/Jackson, something like that. Although I suspect to actually get it done they'd need to offer 15 + 2022 first + something else.

The Stuart/Hill charts are obviously better metrics for actual expected value, but has there ever been a high pick traded at those values? They all seem to be Jimmy Johnson values+.

Just heard in WFAN that Houston signed Tyrod Taylor for 1 year, $12M. Sounds like they might be answering the phone now.
Probably a backup deal, so maybe 3-5M guaranteed, with the chance to get to 12 if he starts enough games. Makes sense for both sides, he's not starting anywhere but this way he has a path and gets some upside, they get a guy who won't embarrass them too badly if Watson holds out.

Remember, even if they don't trade Watson, he's going to miss games if you believe him that he's willing to sit at least until as late as he can report without burning the year.

Yep, it's $5M and change rising with incentives.

Bears fans went from Russell pipe dreams to this
Based on the texts I’m getting from family& friends out here in Chicagoland, these mild midwesterners are about to full Bastille on Soldier Field.

Safe to say the Bears had a Lazor focus on Dalton.

Had to use that one here because it’s too dangerous to even utter the name Andy in Chicago right now.

Edit: AJ Green waiting by the phone right now.

Wilson was never going to be traded short of an outright demand & hold out. That team is working to contend now. Trading Russ now requires blowing up the entire roster for a rebuild with a 70 year old coach. Makes no sense.

To compound that, the Bears offering 2 “starters” makes no sense for the Seahawks, particularly since the Bears would be trying to dump a ton of salary to fit Russ under the cap.

George Blanda, of course. And Johnny Lujack.

(Wish I had their football cards, but Mom threw them out with my ratty jeans and broken-down moccasins.)

Blanda wasn't very good in Chicago. Lujack was there what, three or four years? Nope, I think that Luckman is still the lone QB in franchise history that was really good relative to the era.

It's stunning that Chicago has had one very good quarterback and one very good coach in their history.

Sorted by yardage, Bears QBs vs Pats QBs (for top 5 Bears QBs) (not counting totals for other teams)

1. Brady, NEP
2. Bledsoe, NEP
3. Grogan, NEP
4. Cutler, CHI
5. Parilli, NEP
6. Luckman, CHI
7. Plunkitt, NEP
8. Harbaugh, CHI
9. McMahon, CHI
10. Eason, NEP
11. Kramer, CHI

Wentz officially introduced today ... and the Colts are banning questions from Philadelphia sportswriters:

I’m no fan of Reanimated Deadspin, but they are dead right here. The Indy Star should boycott this.
Is it customary for local sports writers of other teams to attend press conferences of players in other cities. I get the Philly link but that part seems kind of weird to me. Or, is this just a national pool of reporters and Philly is getting excluded?

It’s pretty weak in any event.

Generally PCs are open to all Media, something like a starting QB is going to get National attention, and certainly guys from his last team. I mean Brady in TB had basically every NE reporter I'm sure.

Pity Bears fans, because Cutler is arguably the second best QB in franchise history.
The Bears season passing yardage record is 3838. That is INSANE.

edit - just to give some context about how ridiculous that 3838 number is, 13 QBs passed for over 4,000 years in the 2016 season.

edit part deux - I'm in the rabbit hole. Bernie Kosar is 250th all time for yards in a season, at 3854. The Bears do not have a single QB in the top 250 for yards in one season. Brees is on the list 14 times. Brady 15. The Bears? Z.E.R.O.

That is fascinating.
