I feel like I'm on an island, but I'm not bullish on either the Bills or the Browns.

Bill's on a 1st place schedule with teams adjusting to Allen after a year of tape. Their running game doesnt blow me away, and I dont think Diggs is remotely close to the best receiver in the league, which was the level he played at after being traded.

Browns have to catch a lot of luck to replicate their power running offensive of last year. And I don't trust Baker to be the guy to steer any type of aerial offense.

(As a note, I'm not bullish on Miami either. Think they're very much still a year away.)

Total hot take but a dark horse for first fired coach might be Urban Meyer. Well not fired but he'll quit citing "health issues".

I see where you are coming from. I heard a clip of one of his press conferences and thought “it doesn’t sound like this guy is having any fun at all”.

Analytics is down on both these squads, too. The Bills had the point differential of a 10.5-win team and won 13. The Browns allowed more points than they scored and went 11-5. I think there's also a natural tendency to think young, improving teams are just going to keep ascending, when history tells us they usually regress towards the mean somewhat after a breakout season.

Just from a purely statistical standpoint, both Miami and Buffalo are likely to regress towards the mean pretty substantially from last year on defense. They ranked first and third, respectively, in total turnovers forced last year, and there is very little stability and very little predictive power in either interceptions or (especially) fumbles produced by a defense.

As weird and disgusting this is to say, the Bills still, until evidence shows otherwise, have the best QB in the division. It's a simplistic heuristic, but the only division where I'm not most expecting the best-QB team to win it is the NFC West, where I just don't know who the best team is going to be because the team with the best quarterback also has the worst coach competing with at least two exceedingly good coaches. Ravens, Chiefs, Titans, Cowboys (well, maybe not them; Fitzpatrick and/or Heinicke are just hard to project), Bucs, and Packers are all pretty easy favorites for me. Putting New England (or maybe Miami) over the Bills requires necessarily making an prediction on how "for real" Josh Allen was last year and how good Mac Jones (or Tua) is going to be. I've got some hunches on that matter, but don't have anywhere near the requisite confidence to predict a team over Buffalo in the division.

Now, it's time to put realism aside and inhale some cocaine:

AFC East: #1 New England(16-1)
AFC North: #3 Baltimore (12-5)
AFC South: #4 Tennessee(11-6)
AFC West: #2 Kansas City (13-4)
Wild Cards: Cleveland, Chargers, Buffalo
AFC Championship Game: Patriots vs. Ravens

NFC East: #4 Dallas(10-7)
NFC North: #3 Green Bay(11-6)
NFC South: #1 Tampa Bay (17-0)
NFC West: #2 LA Rams (12-5)
Wild Cards: Seattle, San Francisco, New Orleans
NFC Championship Game: Bucs vs. Rams

Super Bowl: Patriots over Bucs

MVP: Tom Brady
DPOY: Matthew Judon
OPOY: Jacoby Meyers
OROY: Michael McCorkle "Mac" Jones
DROY: Christian Barmore
Comeback: Dak Prescott
Coach: ol' Billy B

Mac Jones TD/INT: 45/9
More TDs: Henry or Smith? Smith, 13
Judon sacks: 23
Damien Harris yards and TDs: 450 and 4 (because, as it turns out, Stevenson is RB1)
Leader in receptions: Meyers (124)
Result of Brady game: Lose 38-31 in the first one, win 43-32 in the rematch.
First coach fired: Robert Saleh. See below for reasoning.
Worst team: As much as it's obviously by all reason and rationality Houston, I'm going with the Jets. Because fuck 'em, that's why.

Speaking of putting realism aside, Luckiestman's predictions post takes the cake.

Actually the entire bakery.

Yours are somewhat based on reality; the Bucs very well could very well go 17-0.

I’m going to keep from repeating a lot of what’s already been posted/projected…so I’ll simply add two predictions that have not been shared by anyone else…

Denver makes the playoffs
And, Miami finished with a better record than New England

Super Bowl. I’ll go Kansas City vs Green Bay

NFC West is the toughest division and has an easy non-division schedule (AFC South, NFC North), so I think they get three teams. Was torn between the Cards and Niners; went with the former because the latter is fundamentally a bet on Jimmy G’s health. In that same vein, give me the “over” on 1.5 Trey Lance starts.

I tend to be pretty balanced on homerism. Sometimes I get caught up, but as a natural contrarian, I tend to look at the other side of the coin.

I think the Patriots take this division, and I think it's by multiple games.

Mac is a rookie, and there will be rookie bumps. But people's excitement for him isn't predicated on preseason success. It was how he succeeded. He seemed to always make the right throw, he was patient with his reads, and almost all of his throws were on point. He looked a little jittery in the pocket when things broke down, but he didnt force bad throws to compensate.

I think he ends up being a top 15 QB this season, which is a perfectly reasonable assumption for a good rookie QB with a top offensive line and top 5 running game.

I'm very bullish on the Patriots this season. The defense looks legit. It's one if the more well-rounded units in the league. The edges can both stop the run and get after the QB. The interior line has some pass rushers and lane cloggers. The linebackers can get downhill and, while they aren't the best in coverage, we have a thousand safeties that well be able to rotate in to help. The CB group is thin, but if it can remain healthy when Gilmore returns they have two elite/good corners on the outside, an elite coverage safety, and a young thumper SS who looks like he could make a leap.

And, when combining an elite offensive line, top running game, a rookie QB not asked to do too much (but actually CAN throw the ball 30 times if needed), and a top 10 (possibly 5 with Gilmore back) defense?

12-13 wins isnt out of the realm, especially with a pretty light schedule. Losses to Tampa, Dallas, and splits against the division gets us to 12-5.

In fact, the Patriots at 9 wins for -125 is basically stealing money. Let's all go make some money.

I like their roster and what I saw in the pre season. They were decent last year with a MASH unit. I think they can be good.
Yeah, the 49ers aren't that crazy of a pick. Good coaching staff, good offensive line, good defense, good skill position players... One big question mark at QB. You would think a board with NE fans wouldn't think that this pick is that crazy.

The field vs KC is a good bet. The Pats had the best coach/qb combo maybe ever and still went a decade without a SB. But if I were forced to bet for next year my money would be in the chiefs.

Can we clarify what actually needs to be submitted in this contest? Is it just Division Winners and Wild Cards and Conference and SB matchup and winner? (This seems to be the minimal set all have submitted) Do we need records as well? Playoff seedings too? Entire playoff scenarios?

Normally I would think the person who starts the thread and gives their submission determines that, but several people have already deviated from that and not provided info that RO3829 supplied.

Or is this not a contest at all, but merely an exercise where we submit vaguely related prognostications?

deep inside Guido territory
Can we clarify what actually needs to be submitted in this contest? Is it just Division Winners and Wild Cards and Conference and SB matchup and winner? (This seems to be the minimal set all have submitted) Do we need records as well? Playoff seedings too? Entire playoff scenarios?

Normally I would think the person who starts the thread and gives their submission determines that, but several people have already deviated from that and not provided info that RO3829 supplied.

Or is this not a contest at all, but merely an exercise where we submit vaguely related prognostications?
It's not really a contest. If you want to copy and paste what I did and add in your own predictions, go for it. If you've got other bold predictions or something of that sort, do that too. We're just having fun with it.

As for SB... I am going to go with KC vs either Tampa or GB.
