That was a fumble. And the reason this will go the Eagles way is that they had the common sense to challenge.

Edit: of course, the refs blew it dead and stopped the run back, so I’m not sure how/where they give the ball to the Eagles. That’s a bit of a conundrum.

Must be nice to have that much time. Wide receiver weapons are nice, but Mac could have Jerry Rice on one side and Randy Moss on the other and still suck with the Patriots offensive line and scheme. And Hurts can move and throw in ways that Mac can't even imagine. And SF screws up by not challenging.
Agree 100% with the OL comment. BB has work to do.

Philly may have scored if they let that play go on. Certainly would have gotten a return on the fumble. Refs give and take away,

Except, in his 2nd year, Jalen Hurts threw for 3,100 yards, 16td's, 9 picks and had an 87.2 rating. He was even worse as a rookie. What changed? If you'd like, I can also point out their senior year numbers in college...Mac can throw just as well as Jalen. Just needs time, receivers who can catch the ball, and coaches who know how to design and call plays.

True. But it would be nice if the refs could call these plays correctly. If that is just too much to expect of humans — and it may be — we need a more interventionist replay system.

Eagles got screwed out of a return there.

Refs so far.

Not calling multiple false starts. Miss the drop by Smith. Call the Purdy play wrong and then stop the recovery.

They are crushing it.

Alabama had a better offensive line than the Patriots. And better coaches. Would I trade Mac for Hurts? Yup. Tomorow.

It went forward because he hit it with his arm, so might have seemed obvious I guess.
If the ball comes out of the QBs hand as anything other than a spiral they’re supposed to let it go. If the R sees it as an obvious pass he’ll come kill it. The R rules fumble, somebody else screwed it up.

Philly playcalling there seemed oddly conservative. I like when teams try to go big after turnovers but I am not a football genius.

I've been saying this since the first year of replay- the coaches shouldn't be involved at all. If a play is questionable, have a replay official in a booth somewhere who calls down to the ref. This idea that coaches need to be a check on the refs, and only get 3 challenges at most, is idiotic.

The idea is to avoid the college system, where the booth gets involved when the spot is missed by a yard. Basically the NFL only wants replay involved if there is an obvious error with REAL game impact, and who better to decide if the play matters than the coach?

and if the coach gets it wrong, it’s his own fault for challenging something that wasn’t obvious. That’s the logic at least.

I would trade Mac for Hurts too, solely because of what he can do with this legs.

I'm just saying if Hurts played in the 2022 Pats offense, if he doesn't get hurt, his passing numbers probably look a lot like Mac's (or in other words, a lot like Hurts numbers did in 2021). A 2nd year under the Sirianni/Steichen tandem, adding AJ Brown which unlocked Smith and the running game and a fucking wrecking crew of an offensive line is what you do for young QB's.

Josh Johnson is quite the test for Shanahan's idiot proof offense.

SF is smart for having Samuel and Kittle responsible for blocking the best pass rusher.
