He pulled the ball back!
Yes. This. It drives me crazy. A player reaches the ball forward to cross the goal line, and as soon as he does that, the play is over and it's a touchdown. But a player reaching forward in the field of play and pulls it back doesn't (or SHOULDN'T) get credit for the for forward reach if he pulls it back on his own. It's like a runner crossing the line to gain, then cutting backward to avoid a tackle. He doesn't get "forward progress" in that case. But they give these guys this version of "forward progress" all the time and it makes no sense.

I guess they could rule that the runner was driven back and that’s the farthest point the ball got, but I agree with the consensus that he brought the ball back on his own.
