There is offset language, so if a HC or OC is fired and gets a new HC/OC job the new salary offsets the old. Bill has used a trick of not naming guys as OC so that they don't offset and the guy gets more money while the Pats pay less.

The obvious question would be "how much lower", but at a certain point you'd think so.
My sense is imposing guaranteed contracts is more meaningful for fungible lower-level guys than for established stars who have enough market clout to get some guarantees. And the low-level guys certainly outnumber the established stars when it comes to a union vote, if those cats can be herded.
The “I’m just a temporary embarrassed billionaire so I’ll vote to keep their taxes low for when I’m rich” is even more pronounced in a league where a lot of the guys most definitely think they are superstar material any day now. A lot think they’ll soon have that big guaranteed signing bonus themselves so why should they restrict it?

Feels rich for Claypool. Good young WR but i feel like a 2nd rounder is typically worth a really good sure thing type player.
And an odd choice for the Bears. I would have thought Claypool was headed to a contender.
So if it’s the Baltimore 2nd from the Smith trade going out, Chicago essentially traded 8 games of Roquan for a season and a half of Claypool. Not awful considering their #2 and #3 by receiving yards are E. St. Brown and Cole Kmet.
It's the extra season that makes it worth it for Chicago, which has significant cap space for additions next season
Gambling on Claypool makes sense given the dearth of skill talent around Fields. I think PIT never really loved him; his production didn’t quite match his skillset, and my impression is that he’s been in and out of Tomlin’s doghouse. See Exhibit A-1:

I think getting a second for Claypool, especially sending him to a team that is not going anywhere this year, is highway robbery. He’s a decent player and I understand the desire to help Fields’ development this year with another legitimate NFL caliber target given the dearth of them on their roster, but that’s a pretty big overpay for a player that should be their 3rd best target next year.

yeah a high #2 in a draft loaded with good skill position players, esp WR. Virtual guarantee that there is a better WR available at that pick than what Claypool offers.
I mean the Bears did nothing, absolutely nothing, in the offseason to address their lack of skill players on offense and now they send a top-40 pick for Claypool? What a clownshop.

Chase Edmonds has been absolutely terrible. Like one of the worst RBs in the league. Nuts that Denver even took him.
This tells me Miami is making a move for a RB as well. Hunt or Akers would be a fit.

This is really smart for Jacksonville. They’re not going anywhere this year and get an absolute stud to pair with Etienne and Lawrence next year.
I believe the Eagles were going to send a 2nd to Atlanta for Ridley but then Atlanta called a time out when they got wind of the potential suspension. Of course they ended up trading a 1st for AJ Brown on draft day instead.
Good moves by Miami. Their hopes still come down to Tua and his issues, but they strengthened their team without selling the farm. Maybe they can pee in KC or Buffalo’s lemonade in the playoffs.
The Trey Lance deal is also tied into the Tunsil deal. The Tunsil deal might go down as one of the best trades in the history of the game.
If the Bears don’t plan to keep Montgomery after this year, why aren’t they trading him to the Rams or another team that was looking at Hunt? They have a perfectly capable/cheaper solution in house.
