Lawrence: "No. I feel comfortable. Obviously I haven’t run it in a game, but I feel comfortable ... no, QB sneak is something we can always get to and I feel comfortable with."

I have no clue why this idiot still Has a Head coaching job.

I mean UM sucks a lot, but that isn't the job of the head coach.
That is the OC and the positional coaches, the HC can definitely override, but not his responsibility directly.
In the situation, I think it depends on the coach how much they're involved.
However, I don't think that's really the point. He's in charge. He needs to take responsibility. At a minimum virtually every other head coach is saying how "we thought ..."

That quote coupled with Lawrence QB sneak quote sound like someone who does not want to be held accountable.

Update: Decision to have the surgery has been made, surgery hasn't happened yet. See below

View: https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/1447603790346166274?s=20

Clarification: #Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster is having surgery, source said, but the surgery has not happened yet. It will, but it hasn’t yet. The decision to have surgery came last night. His status remains the same, as he is expected to miss the season.

Schefter says dislocated shoulder, 4 months post surgery, so yeah season over. Not adding those tweets this is already a lot of edits.

Fans may be all over Urban for his "I don't micromanage" but the thing that the writers and experts are on him for is his quote about liking the offensive identity of the team and that he wants to be a 250/250 team (250 passing yards, 250 running yards). Of course the greatest rushing offense in NFL history, with maybe the best rushing QB ever averaged.... 206 rushing. So he wants the best rushing offense in history by oh... 45 yards a game, and without a rushing QB.

He's so obviously clueless it's amazing.

Even his championship Gators teams didn't average 250/250 and they got to schedule teams like Citadel, Charleston Southern, Troy, and Vandy. That statement is just absurd. His OSU team in 2014 came close, but again, they got to pad their states against Navy and Kent State and Rutgers, notably, none of whom play in the NFL.

That statement sounds like a guy who can be really successful if he enjoys an across-the-board talent advantage at every position. Hint: that's not Jacksonville.

Looking back, it feels like he started off a fairly innovative offensive scheme coach, embracing the spread. Then at later stops everyone else innovated right past him as he stayed with what was innovative 20 years ago (and is stale now), but had 2 strong skills:
1. Recruiting
2. covering up misconduct.

Neither of those is of any value in the NFL, so now he's just a coach whose contribution is "culture", but he has no idea how to get buy-in from grown men who are highly paid professionals.

Bingo! The recruiting stuff doesn't count for shit in the NFL

The Seahawks are releasing former starting CB Tre Flowers, source said, a move that he recently requested. An experienced corner with four years of starting experience now available.

The HC during a game is more like a CEO. They monitor things and can obviously overrule anyone on anything but most everything is done by the coordinators and assistant coaches. It’s not the HC’s job to send in the players.

Edit: In agreement with Silverdude.
Your point makes me wonder, looking back to the infamous Butler benching in the Super Bowl, with what the Wickerham book suggested was the cause (incident between Butler and Patricia), if the decision to bench Butler was Patricia's and BB simply took the heat for it.

Maybe, but I doubt it. Because that's a CEO-level issue. Whether Butler would have been in on any particular play is up to the coordinator or position coach, but at some point BB would have said, "Why hasn't Butler been in today? Get that guy in the game." Or something like that.

And if they discussed it before the game, then that's clearly something the HC could override if he felt strongly enough. In other words, Patricia in this case could only have benched Butler with BB's approval. Thus it ultimately would fall on the HC. But not necessarily any individual in-game substitution or whatever.

Agreed. Belichick has made this point, that as the head coach he has the ability to override any decision / playcall / etc. made by those subordinate to him. So even if he did defer to Patricia here and Patricia decided to bench Butler, deferring to Patricia is itself Belichick's decision.

Aside from gambling and fantasy, why shouldn't a player be allowed to play twice in one week? Is it because of safety/health concerns? Or is it just....the NFL being the NFL?

I think he could, assuming he can learn some plays. That, and the beating he will take. I'm just pissed if he can rack up two games worth of points on me. He put up 12 last night, another 10+ is practically Kelcean.

Read the thread.

He cannot play twice in one week. It is not allowed.

Why would a football player want to play an extra game and not be paid?
Why wouldn't he get paid? He'd get paid by his new team.

But I didn't ask why a player would or would not *want* to play again. I asked why it's not ALLOWED.

Here it is

https://www.miaminewtimes.com/news/did-ex-heat-center-rony-seikaly-really-not-want-to-make-the-playoffs-6538360

When I left Detroit to play for the Heat, I rented a house on Star Island in Miami Beach, across from Rony Seikaly. He was living in the house that Shaq later paid $19 million for; Rony built it for $2.5 million. Anyway, my house got robbed, and he let me, my daughter, and my wife move into his place for a week. Seikaly was one of my guys. He knew I wasn't there to take his job; I was there to play power forward. One day, he says to me, "Hey, man, how do you play all the way into June?" Remember, I'd been with the Pistons for six seasons and made the playoffs every year. I say, "What'd you say?" He goes, "The playoffs, third round, you guys play all the way to, like, June 28."
"Uh, that's what you do when you win a championship," I say.
"But you only get paid from November to April. That's taking too much of the summer, man. This is ridiculous."
I say: "Well, playing for a championship is about pride. It's not about money."
He says: "It has to be, because this is some bullshit. You guys play an extra two months."
And I was like, holy shit. I didn't even realize it. I was playing an extra two-and-a-half months, for free.

Man, you are way too smart to be this stupid.
Stop please.

I thought that teams might pay players by the game (hence the term "game check"). That's why, when a player is suspended a game, he misses one game's pay. So if Ertz played one game for Philly, he got paid by them for that game, then if he played another game a couple of days later for Arizona, the Cardinals would pay him for THAT game.

It's ok if I'm wrong, but that doesn't seem to me to be *stupid*.

I said you were too smart to miss such a basic thing.

Players are paid by the game but they also have fixed contracts.(performance bonuses excluded) They are not variable based upon actual games played, but weeks that go by in the season.

For example, Saquon Barkley isn't playing this week. He's still getting paid his salary for the week.

Right. I get that. I just thought that if (and we know this isn't allowed, so it's a hypothetical) a player switched teams, that the new team would start paying him right away for games he's playing in for THEIR team.

I think the answer to unlock this might be, "they might pay him right away for the game (the 2nd one that week), but over the course of the year, he still only gets the same total in his contract." So, ultimately, he's playing an extra game for the same money.

I mean, the other way to look at that is the team was paying Seikaly millions of dollars to try and win a championship, and he was failing every year.

Seikaly was a pretty darned good NBA player. His peak (1989-90 to 1992-93), he averaged 16.6 points, 11.3 rebounds, 1.4 blocks a game. Better than I remembered.
