on the one hand he's been crushed by injuries, on the other... he's still really good when he actually plays

Completely crushed. Julio is just a risk now. He was always injured when he was young, but he somehow stayed on the field and performed. Now he's old and just hurt all the time and barely can perform even when he does play.(82 receptions over the last two seasons)

last year was the first the performance slipped, 2020-21 he only played 9 games but he put up 771 yards and 3 TDs in that time, on career high YPT and Catch%, he was really good.
Last year he really struggled.

I would guess someone takes a decent money shot at him, but if he's willing to sign for 1 year at cheap money to get a good situation, he'd be well worth it.

Paying for old WRs is generally not the best strategy. But if Julio gets a deal, it will not be expensive. Nobody is paying him 18 million dollars next year.

I think Julio is in the obvious ring chasing part of his career. TB, GB or CIN might make sense if he plays a situational role on reasonable money. He was phenomenal for a really long time but doesn’t have much left. I’ll never forget that amazing catch in the SB that immediately preceded ATL’s pants shitting.

Wow that’s a ton of money for a guy on the back 9 of his career. Interested to see how much in guarantees but they’re definitely in a position to go for it now so they probably don’t care about the dead cap at the end.

Would it be a uniform infringement if Mayfield wore a diaper outside his pants in the upcoming season?

I can't imagine who in the Browns org thought it was a good idea to trash Mayfield at all, nevermind before locking up a deal with another QB or a deal to send him out, but what a huge error in judgment there.

Edit: Also, I kind of get telling his agents "we're going to pursue a top tier QB" but...I don't know, isn't that usually saved for veterans on the downturn who might understand that. I can't imagine a Baker Mayfield type would be okay with that.

probably going to extend Stafford and kupp

Edit- also like 80% of their roster makes nothing. It's the old fantasy sports stars and scrubs strategy, pay your top 8 guys a ton, everyone else is rookie deals or vet minimum
Very true, they better hope they stay as healthy...

The Rams are an interesting case study in team building, very high risk. The complete opposite of the Pats dynasty.

When teams like that stay healthy, they do great. When they suffer some injuries, it's a disaster. And you have to be very lucky to stay healthy in the NFL.

I've never saw the appeal in Robinson. I think he'll be grossly overpaid and cut next year. $30m guaranteed for a player of his talent is nuts.

He averaged 82-1087 with 37 TD in five years from 2015-20 (excluding '17 where he played one game) with pretty awful QB play. If last year was an anomaly, he's worth it.

According to Spotrac, the Rams were $8 million OVER the cap before signing Robinson.

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/cap/2022/

The gray column is "Cap Space" of the top 51.

You're not over the cap until a certain date. And the Rams have plenty of ways to fix that.

Here's an article about how they can shave $100M off their number: Freeing Up $100M of Rams' Cap Space | Spotrac Research They can save nearly $30M alone by redoing Stafford and Kupp. Another nearly $20M with Woods and Donald.

Have you seen the QB's he's played with? He was banged up last year but put up back to back 1000 yard seasons with Trubisky. He also had a 1400 yard 14 TD season with Blake freaking Bortles. He's a very talented guy and Stafford is by far the best QB he'll have ever played with. I think that contract is a pretty good deal for a guy with his level of talent.

Robinson has been one of the most underrated WRs in football. However... he looked to have lost a step last year, he wasn't getting the same separation, and wasn't winning highpoint battles. Might have just been being banged up in a terrible offense, but it was the first time I remember him not looking great in a bad offense.

qb play has nothing to do with how many yards a #1 receiver is getting. Of course he's getting yards in garbage time on teams that spend their entire existence in garbage time.

He's good for 12-13 ypc, which is what the Pats already have in spades.

He's never finished higher than the mid 40s in DVOA.DVOA isn't everything but he's not even finishing there with positive numbers.

Mark my words - the Rams are going to regret that contract within 2 years.

Cleveland has been hoping to move forward after its Deshaun Watson pursuit and offered to fly to Texas to meet with Mayfield. But from the QB’s perspective, the bridge is burned and it’s time to move on now.
I cant believe the browns wont honor his trade request, as if that locker room isnt toxic enough...
So basically the Browns cheated on their wife out in the open and then the wife said they enjoyed their time in the relationship but wanted out due to the affair/cheating (and the browns said no, you are stuck me me, even though I had an affair with someone else)

Yeah on the Browns thing....

Is Mayfield probably being sensitive... sure.

On the other hand:
1. The Browns remain the Browns.
2. He played hurt all last year on a team that was a mess and they threw him under the bus.
3. They're holding meetings with players they want to replace him, that says (no matter what they say) they don't see him being there long term.

Mayfield is at a key point in his career, wasting a year on a mediocre Browns team where everyone knows they plan to replace you is not great, and there are a bunch of teams that need QBs right now plus a weak draft class. He should be trying to get a head start on his next job.

the thing that I always laugh about with the Cap, is when when a team starts handing out big contracts, there is always the prevailing view that this team is" going for it" and they are " all in" with further quotes attributed to the fact that they are going for it now and by restructuring the contracts they are going to be paying for it later. It seems these team never pay for it later. When these young qb's like Allen and Mahomes get these massive deals everybody writes :they have a two year window while they are still on their rookie contract, with the assumption that when the assumption kicks in they are going to have to nuke the team. KC wont be able to afford, Hill and Kelce. Why do I have a feeling that when Mahomes extension kicks in both Kelce and Hill will still be there and KC will still be adding pieces. If your owner is willing to pay up front signing bonuses, then the cap can be bent to your will.

Probably doesn't help that the Browns said they want "an adult" at QB.

They don't call it "adult" entertainment for nothing.

Browns probably just trying to maintain some level of leverage. Assume they trade him ASAP.

What if it was a kind of crappy wife?
