With Cooks it was a really steep contract. I really don’t get what Houston is doing. You want a QB and you’re going to give him basically nothing to work with. Maybe you can get Hopkins for a 3rd in this market but I don’t see why Arizona would do that unless they think they are in rebuild mode.
Cooks has been pretty open about not wanting to be part of a rebuild so HOU probably realized he wasn't going to help a rookie QB.

Cooks wanted to go to the cowboys it looks like
Even though Cooks remained on the Texans through the end of the 2022 campaign, it was reported in January that Houston was expected to accommodatehis standing trade request this offseason. And the Cowboys, who made a push for Cooks at the deadline in an effort to supplement a WR corps that was clearly missing Amari Cooper — who was traded himself in March 2022 — finally got their man. ESPN’s Ed Werder says multiple teams were in pursuit of Cooks and appeared close to acquiring him, but Dallas was Cooks’ preferred destination (Twitter link).

Which made him signing that extension super weird right? Just an overall bizarre situation.

I dunno. He's had his concussion/injury issues so guaranteed money might have been the imperative at that moment. It comes down sometimes to off-field circumstances when contracts are offered.

Cooks is interesting from the Hopkins perspective, not as good, but younger, cheaper, doesn't have a no trade and can be franchised when this deal ends.

Not sure the Cardinals trade him, but I feel like they are probably getting offers in the 3rd and 5th type range.

Quite shocking to see the Cowboys run competently thus far this offseason. Two good trades for vets that fill needs, kept Pollard on the tag, re-upped Vander Esch, Rush, and Wilson, and ditched Zeke. All plusses.

Wait for the draft when Jerry trades up for Bijan

Bijan is probably the safest pick in this draft. I've seen a few sites consider him the only "elite" talent in this draft and he is being compared with Marshall Faulk.

Man, Odell is just all over Get Up right now.

When will people stop treating this guy like he's Stefon Diggs or Justin Jefferson. His last great season was 2016. Literally 7 years ago.

But he did make that catch against Dallas, so he must be spoken about constantly.

I thought Cooks and Hopkins had similar contracts in respect to what's left to pay.

Dudes been awesome for a few years. Would have gladly paid him that. Might have even been a slight upgrade on DMC. Lions making some good moves.
Sad as it sounds, Detroit is probably a more appealing option for CJGJ than the Pats for a one year prove it deal. Lions adding a ton of talent via FA and the draft and the NFC isn’t exactly loaded with high end QBs. Or teams for that matter - heck, they are only +1000 to win the NFC…

The Jeff George of WR. Everyone forgets about the actual results because he's had a few plays you can hang some dreams on.

If it weren’t for an injury in 2017, he would have had 6 straight 1,000 yard seasons. He was legitimately very good for a while but his behavior got him banished to the Cleveland wasteland and now his body is semi-toast. Definitely shows the upside of playing in the NYC media market. He hasn’t been an impact guy for several reasons and is now like 30. And he seems to have an elevated opinion of himself as well.

If it weren't for injuries, Odell might have been truly awesome for a decade instead of truly awesome for three years and then either decent or injured the rest of the time.

But the fact is, his last great season was 2016. And that is 7 years ago.

He would be lucky to get 6 million a year. You can find receivers, why would you want a broken maniac for a high price?

I wouldn’t bother with him. But he was good in 2018 (77/1053/6 in 12 games). And had 1,000+ yards with Baker Mayfield as his QB in 2019. But, yes, his last Pro Bowl season was 7 years ago when he was 24. Now? He either needs to accept a reduced role/contract or just go away. I agree with you that all the attention is disproportionate to the potential impact of what he’d provide a team in 2023. I have no idea if he’s even fast/quick anymore. We won’t have seen him for nearly 2 years when he next plays. And that’s a lifetime in the NFL.

What’s the point of Hopkins? By the time we’re competitive again he’ll be aged out of being productive.

He's really good? I imagine the Pats are trying to be competitive NOW, not just in the future. He would help (assuming he stays healthy).

I totally get what you're saying though. Seems like their window is a few years away but really, who knows?

Thornton is just aggregating the ‘smoke,’ so shrug?
It's all rampant speculation. LJax & DHop would at least be fun. DHop without LJax seems pointless to me, but who knows?

I don't really expect any of it to happen.

Acquire Jackson and Hopkins and draft Robinson at #14 and I'd tune in most game days.

I don’t expect them to compete for the title so at least entertain us. And if you need to blow it all up again in a couple years, fine. Post Bill I don’t expect much.

If ever there was a moment to GFIN, it's during RKK and BBs last years. I'll trade suckitude for several years if they can make another run or two. Hell, we haven't had a total rebuild since 1993. Would be a fun change of pace! (I don’t think it will happen.)

Wouldn't you lose 14? Or are the picks for 2024 and 2025?
You can negotiate any other compensation you want with the Ravens if both sides are in agreement. & if they wait until after the draft the default would be '24/'25.

I don't know. I was just thinking that that would make for a loaded offense (assuming they all live up to expectations, which is far from given).

And for the record, I'm going to watch no matter what. I've seen my fair of share of 1-15 and 2-14 seasons.

Seems like he's probably not a significant upgrade over Singletary. Crazy how much recycling the Bills/Dolphins are doing with AFC East players this year.
Not sure it will matter much when he's only carrying the ball 10 times a game

He's a better runner than Singletary. Anything that helps Buffalo get better, even by incremental amounts, is not good for the Patriots.

The kind of went for it at the end of the Brady regime (including using first round picks on Wynn and Michel because they had immediate needs at those positions) and won a superbowl and we’re not too far past that and we’re all complaining. Our belief that our future selves will be fine with shitty teams
Is optimistic at best

The pats were roughly average last year and the game threads were epic. It’s hard to imagine how things would be with a terrible team
You should see the Bruins game threads and they're having historically the best season ever. God effin forbid they look mortal for a couple straight games as they play out the string.
