Outside of QB is OC our biggest need?About $10m of that better go to Andrews.

Right, 'cause per Julian Edelman it seems the NEP will be doing some "running it back" this year, too:That phrase has been around for as long as I can remember (e.g. playground pickup basketball). It just means to play it again with the same team members (or mostly the same core group in the case of a large NFL team). Whether you can repeat as champions - or even won a championship in the first place - is irrelevant. But it is used more often with teams which have had past success, for obvious reasons.
Depends on how you view "biggest". I would say K is up there. Unless you're counting on Rohrwasser. But there's basically crap for free agents. May have no choice but to bring Folk back.Outside of QB is OC our biggest need?
I think i'd rather Davis...but that guarantee makes it closeCorey Davis to the Jets for 3/37.5M with 27M guaranteed.
I’d rather have Agholor at 2/26M.
Folk was 26/28 last year and perfect inside 40, plus 30/33 XP. Nothing wrong with bringing him backDepends on how you view "biggest". I would say K is up there. Unless you're counting on Rohrwasser. But there's basically crap for free agents. May have no choice but to bring Folk back.
I’m doing a dbag move and quoting myself. Jets Twitter seems happy about this. I did not watch enough Bengals games to have an opinion. Is Carl Lawson good? Jets signed him. No number that I saw yet

That’s a good point. One thing that gives me hope is I think Jets will play a lot more base 4-3 than the Pats so maybe Bill let us have this one.If he was any good the Pats would have signed him earlier in the day,
But why would they want to? They have the space now, I would think they would go the opposite way and front load stuff so they will also have cap space in the future. So that means the Pats could also have gotten creative like that and still have a good chunk available depending on how they structured some of the deals today?
You're probably right. But maybe they think this year presents a special opportunity in FA and they want to load up as much as possible. But why would they want to? But the bill comes due in our years, they’re not really in a position where an approach like Tampa’s or KC’s makes sense given their window. You're probably right. But maybe they think this year presents a special opportunity in FA and they want to load up as much as possible.
I’m glad this post took a better turn than I was expecting.Since this is a game thread, I would like it known that I am being placed on IR tomorrow with blisters due to...
Everyone they signed is young, too. So they are not selling out the future for this year.Going into today, I was expecting the Patriots to sign a bunch of players to one or two year deals with the idea that the players would want a chance to be a free agent again when the salary cap went back up.
I wonder if, instead, the Patriots took advantage of this year's outlier salary cap to sign players to three or four year deals, with the idea that when the salary cap gets reset in a couple years, the contracts they signed this off season will not be as onerous.
Yeah, Mike Reiss made a similar point earlierI wonder if, instead, the Patriots took advantage of this year's outlier salary cap to sign players to three or four year deals, with the idea that when the salary cap gets reset in a couple years, the contracts they signed this off season will not be as onerous.
Remember, the cap dropped to $182.5 million this year. It was $198.2 million in 2020, so this marked the first drop since the collective bargaining agreement of 2011.
Because of that, it thinned the field of teams the Patriots were competing against for free agents because many teams were scrambling just to get under the cap. That sweetened the free-agent pool, making players in the prime years of their career available who might have otherwise not hit the market; consider that Smith and Bourne are 25, Godchaux and Mills are 26, Agholor is 27 and Judon 28.
So with an abundance of salary-cap space to work with, and knowing the cap is going to spike in the coming years because of new television broadcast deals, Belichick and the Patriots went all-in like never before.
So which national reporter has already* made the "Belichick knew/created Covid to help with his cap shenanigans once he knew Brady was gone?" article without tongue firmly planted in cheek?Yeah, Mike Reiss made a similar point earlier
Was the Thuney thread deleted / merged? Seems like the Chiefs better win it all in 2021 or 2022 because they are going to be in cap hell soon.Thuney's cap hit year 1 will be just 4.5M.

Nah. The Saints had arguably the best roster in football 4 years running and everyone said the same thing. Now all they're doing is letting go of some good-not-great players and combined with some restructures they'll be compliant this year and probably have more than enough room to rebuild after Brees with the cap increase, all while keeping all of their best players. If Brees were still Brees and hadn't retired, they'd contend again in 2021. As long as Mahomes is there they'll be fine and the roster around him will likely be good enough, there's no real precedent of a team with great QB play not contending because of cap issues, is there? Was the Thuney thread deleted / merged? As a Raiders guy I’m fucking lost on this one.View: https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/1371894351652126722
Rodney Hudson released. Possible option for the Patriots if they can't re-sign Andrews, and also might be a target for teams that might have competed for Andrews.
This is exactly how I felt when Mookie Betts was traded. As a Raiders guy I’m fucking lost on this one.
They better be spending the offensive line savings wisely on WR and defense. And sign Long. This is exactly how I felt when Mookie Betts was traded.
It’s gonna hurt twice when he signs back in KC.
And yes, I know it makes sense to pay Andre James $2M to be 85% of the player they were paying Hudson $13M to be. And yes, they had the most expensive OLine in the league that was rated 18th by FO.
Fucking Gruden and his ten year contract.
The saints were up and down during the Brees era, and it was arguably cap related. The chargers and falcons have both spent a lot of time as average teams despite having top five or ten QBs--and had persistent cap issues.Nah. Two years at $14.5 mil per Schefty, $9.2 guaranteed. Wrong side of 30 but that's a reasonable deal for a good #2 to add to the two good #2s they already have.Marvin Jones to the Jags
On the eve of his 34th birthday. Still productive, though, but could fall off a cliff at any time.
Not a good development. If Pats lose out on Andrews, former Texan Nick Martin (Cowboys' Zack Martin's brother) may be the next best option.

He was a cap casualty and will come cheaper than DA.
