If the Pats had drafted Marino, they could have gone from 1983 - 2020 with only Marino and Brady (if they had the foresight to start Brady his rookie year in 2000, unlike what actually happened).
If Marino had the misfortune to be drafted by New England he might have died given how badly those 80s squads picked up the blitz.

No TE that particular year (Lin Dawson leading TE receiver with 147 yards), but Collins/James were their 3rd & 4th leading receivers, & yeah, 1,900 rushing yards between the 2 of them.

Stanley Morgan seemed ancient to me back then, but I guess he was only 30.

This page brings back interesting memories I haven't thought about in forever...

Oh, I didn't realize that you had a specific year in mind. 1985? Derrick Ramsey, a TE, had 285 yards that year (not a lot), but had almost 800 the prior year.

Ah, they didn't list his position & I was too lazy to click through. Yeah, sorry was reminiscing about the 1st season I have memories of.

This seems like a terrible thread to do this in, so I'll float a rumor I heard on the radio today - Giants are talking about trading down because Gettleman is in love with EDGE Jaelan Phillips from Miami & it would be a reach where they're drafting now.

It would be a lot of fun if Newsome ended up with the Bears - he’s a Chicago kid who went to Northwestern, how often do we get hometown heroes anymore? And I think he does profile as a good Kyle Fuller replacement in his athletic traits and likelihood of excelling in zone-heavy schemes.

But I’m convinced Pace is going to do something dumb like take the 4th WR at 20 and try to fill glaring holes at CB and OLine during day 2.

If the Pats had drafted Marino he'd have been scapegoated by the Boston press and then he'd have won two super bowls with the Raiders.
I watched the "Elway to Marino" 30 for 30 recently -- Pats were all in on Elway, Ron Meyer loved him and he wanted to come here, but the Colts wouldn't trade him within the division.

Elway might have had a prayer of escaping the opponent blitzes. I never saw any team as bad at picking up blitzes as those 80s Patriots squads. And it wasn't just under Meyer, things got even worse under Berry, who decided to run the old three yards and a cloud of dust offense.

This is absolutely huge if you want the Pats to trade up for a QB. Takes Denver right out of the QB market tomorrow night at 9.
Well, that or Drew Lock is looking for a roster spot sooner than I would have guessed. Teddy B for a 6th doesn't scream absolutely can't/won't draft a QB to me, but that'd be a Rosen level vote of no confidence in Lock. Which I'd argue is probably fair, but it's no less surprising.

Panthers are paying $7 million of Bridgewater's $10 million salary.
I don't think that at all. In fact, it's the exact type of low cost move you make if you've decided Drew Lock sucks and you'd like to draft Trey Lance who won't be ready for at least a year.

The odds are very low to me that they'd have Lock-Teddy-top draft pick all on the roster. I think the most likely outcome is that they will evaluate Lock and Bridgewater this year and see what they have.

Maybe. Or they just are done with Lock and will try to move him to recoup the late pick

Edit- actually, Lock as the 2nd/3rd QB makes some sense, he's dirt cheap (1.9M).

Schefter says they're still in the QB market for Thursday if things fall right.

Lock's dead cap his is $1.5M. That's not cost-prohibitive in the least to cut.

Trading Drew Lock as part of a package to trade up for a QB could be on the table, too.

The Falcons don't appear to have a back up QB on their roster, Lions have Tim Boyle & David Blough backing up Goff, etc.

Patriots competition for a 1st rd QB aside, I like this move for Denver a lot regardless of intention. Teddy's not a long term answer, but he is a material upgrade on 2020 Drew Lock and playing for reasonable $$. Even if just insurance that they're not insta-punting this season if the draft chips don't fall how they hope I think that's well worth a 6th round pick.

No, it isn't but I find it hard to believe they'd already be giving up on Lock.
I mean. If they were going to draft a QB top 10 they were giving up on Lock, whether they have a real vet to warm the spot for their top 10 rookie or not doesn't impact that.

Who says they were going to even draft a QB top 10?
Nobody. My point is, this should have no impact on their choice to draft or not draft a QB.
You said it took them out of the market.. but the thing is.. if they were in the market because they thought a QB at their pick was a good investment, then having Teddy as the placeholder doesn't change things much.

If they were in the market for a QB at 9 (or higher) they didn't think Lock was the future. Adding Teddy doesn't change that, nor is he the type of QB that you don't draft a guy you think is worth #9 (or higher) because of. He's the guy you have to hold down the fort for your draft pick (and you probably trade Lock).

What kind of trade value does Lock have at this point? Is he materially better than say Nick Mullens or AJ McCarron who are still available?

I don't think he's a huge piece in a trade, but probably like a 5th? He's only 24 & still has some theoretical upside & he will be getting paid like 2/$2.5m by his new team.

It is pretty remarkable to me that Stephon Starring had 120 receptions. . . .in his career. 12 year old me thought he was going to be a star, and 45 year old me would have guessed he had 300-400 catches over a solid 8-10 year career.

Cedric Jones is the other name that popped up there whom I had totally forgotten about and for some reason remember having irrational love/like for.

I could absolutely see younger NFL guys feeding PFT information because they're PMT fans, but also because they know that nobody will take it seriously. I think he actually got some legit scoops for his dog over time. I don't think any of these are legit.

Yes. He’s fucking with us. Unless he isn’t. Nothing would surprise me at this point. But, pretty sure he’s fucking with everyone. Unless..
"4 random DMs form [sic] various burner accounts" isn't a source. Each team is different, but there are probably only 3 or 4 people on the Pats total who know what they are thinking. It is clearly nonsense and doesn't need to be spread.

Sorry for the confusion.
Guys, he’s never serious. Did I just Roethlisberger or whatever you call explaining a joke? I’ll hang up and listen.
