I know this is a non-Pats rumor thread, but this is good news for the Pats IMO - if (for instance) Lance falls to 10, and it looks like there could still be an elite CB available at 15, Dallas could be a perfect trade-up partner.
On the other hand Pitts going at #4 would send two QBs tumbling down the board.

Bill may wait on the Giants if a QB has gotten to Dallas - NY isn't taking a QB and he might have to give up a little less at 11 compared to 10, no? Gettleman hasn't traded down before but he's insisted he's tried.
Regardless, unless the Giants are hot after one of the elite WR, I see a lot of good players on the board that could help them that they could easily get at 15. OL and Edge in particular.

Dane Brugler with an interesting alternative.

(can't display due to phone, maybe?)

Anyway, he "wouldn't be surprised" if it went
1. Lawrence
2. Wilson
3. Lance
4. Pitts
5. Chase

During his podcast he asserted that there will be the widest gap ever between conventional wisdom and what actually happens (i.e. more fun for us!)

It doesn't seem to me that anyone's considering the possibility that the Jets won't draft Wilson (and maybe even swap picks with the 49ers, with SF taking Wilson and the Jets taking one of the other three "top" QBs). It doesn't seem that Wilson is so far above the other three that the Jets not taking him isn't a possibility.

It isn't that Wilson is better than the other QBs (many people don't think that) it's that the Jets have made no secret that he's their guy, since they have no reason to smoke screen, given he isn't going 1.

Okay, that makes sense. But I still wouldn't discount the possibility that the 9ers might make the Jets an offer they can't refuse.

Another one? This guy better be great.
Agreed, but if the 9ers covet Wilson, trading for 3 and then trading it to Jets in a deal for 2 is the only way to guarantee that they get him (because I can't see the Jets moving down below 3 given that they also need a QB).

Interesting that both Schefter and Rappaport have come out now and said that the niners were all in on Jones with the trade up but after doing the diligence on Lance he's made such a strong showing that they haven't decided between the two.

I still think that Shanahan wants Jones, so that will be the pick, but I won't be completely surprised if it's Lance. I personally think Lance sitting for a year with jimmy starting is the optimal situation for SF.

Podcasts I heard have Shanny liking Jones and Personnel dept with Lance

All I ask is that the Jets pick someone other than Zach Wilson just so I can see the meltdown on Jets' message boards...

I kinda want them to pick him then for KidzBop Jim Mcmahon to suck while Darnold has a solid year in CAR.

I always love that compilation (fullback....ohhhh noooooo) and watch it at this time of year like a holiday tradition, but it is sobering to think of how pre-Belichick/Brady (or maybe pre-Parcells) the Patriots were not that different. There but for the grace of the football gods....

The last one was the best. Thank you for posting this.
"It's obvious to me right now that the Jets just don't understand what the draft is all about"...........

"We want Sapp........we want Sapp............we want Sapp".................."and the Jets select Kyle Brady, Tight End, Penn State"..........

No they were not.

Look no further than 1983, when with the 15th pick they choose Tony Eason with Dan Marino still on the board, 1984 when they took Irving Fryar with the #1 pick and the doozy, in 1985 when they traded down with the 49ers and took Trevor Matich.....................and the 49ers used the Patriots pick to take............Jerry Rice.

That trade more than any other exemplifies why I HATE it when the Patriots trade down; stick with the pick and take the best player available, or the player that fills a need.

The Jets picking Jones is the best outcome humor-wise for me. Among other reasons, they won't get out of training camp wtihout some NY paper having an unsourced quote along the lines of "he's struggling with how much lower the talent level is than at Alabama"

So many bad first round picks "back in the day". Kenneth Sims #1. Hart Lee Dykes at 16. Eugene Chung at 13. Chris Canty at 29. Ugh.

In fairness if he'd had the misfortune to land on the '84 Patriots Dan Marino would likely have been a footnote in NFL history. And Irving Fryar miraculously got good the minute he escaped the franchise. So if he'd gone third to the Giants he might have ended his career as a Hall of Famer.

Irving Fryar was my 1st favorite football player when I was 6. Surprised to see he didn't put up better stats. I'll assume 1985 me realized it was Eason's fault, not Fryar's.

If the Pats had drafted Marino, they could have gone from 1983 - 2020 with only Marino and Brady (if they had the foresight to start Brady his rookie year in 2000, unlike what actually happened).

If the Pats had drafted Marino he'd have been scapegoated by the Boston press and then he'd have won two super bowls with the Raiders.

Those teams were balanced between run and pass, and when they did pass, they spread the ball evenly around to the WRs, TEs, and RBs.

No TE that particular year (Lin Dawson leading TE receiver with 147 yards), but Collins/James were their 3rd & 4th leading receivers, & yeah, 1,900 rushing yards between the 2 of them.

Stanley Morgan seemed ancient to me back then, but I guess he was only 30.

This page brings back interesting memories I haven't thought about in forever...
