Per Reiss:

@MikeReiss
More on Stanford DB Jordan Richards: Team captain, comes from football family (his father played at Tufts in 1970s). Hard hitter. #NEPick

So typical of BB that I'm not even mad.

Where do you think this dude was when Belichick called him? Getting wasted watching the draft as a fan?

Stanford kid---he was likely extracting DNA from a dinosaur bone in order to create a new vaccine or something

Here is the deal. Usually the knee jerk defense of a wayward pick is, "well somebody could have jumped them ..."

Who???? The fucking guy himself did not expect to be taken till the 5th

Belichick just doesn't view the draft that way. They rank players and pick based on that, nothing else.

It's inconceivable the Patriots aren't in the room thinking "will he still be there at 96 and 97," right? It's not like that's a question they forget to ask themselves.

Pats took a defensive back who nobody expected them to take?  FUCK!  I'm done with this shit, instead I'm going to watch Malcolm Butler win a Super Bowl on my 3 Games to Glory IV Blu-ray.

Well, to be fair, they didn't "take" Butler

There very well could've been a team in the 3rd that wanted him and the Pats got worried he wouldn't be there when they pick again at 96.

If that's the case, why do they trade down so much? Why don't they just go down their list?

By his sophomore season, in fact, Richards had such a thorough understanding of the playbook that he got the nickname, “Coach Richards.”

“Because he was so mature and did everything right on and off the field,” Ertz said. “If you had a question, it was, ‘Just ask Coach Richards.’ I think that speaks volumes to the respect people have for him in the program.”

Good news is we got the random DB portion of the draft over early and the three picks late 3rd/early 4th can go to the OL.

Okay, but say that's true ... what that means is that the guy they wanted to take at 64 in the first place will likely to be gone by 96-97. So, to save the third round guy they wanted, they sacrifice the second round guy

Not if the Pats had Richards at the top of their draft board.

BB does every single year. Why am I still mad? Did I spend more than an hour studying the safeties in this draft? No. Yeah, but I'm still mad.

You lost me on this one. If Belichick had someone higher on his board who was likely to earlier to boot, it seems unlikely he takes the DB there.

SSF you are mad not because of who, but when. 99% chance he woulda been there at 101 which is why this is frustrating.

I don't have any problem with the pick.  I like it more than I liked the Jimmy G. pick last year.  The most unsurprising thing about the pick is the reaction to it, which I love.  So far, I have issues with what the Pats have done.  They got the guys they wanted to get, and as always, they have 1000000000x more information on these guys than we do.

Here
LOL:

Randy Gregory's representatives made it clear that, whichever team drafts him, needs to have a support system in place that would be expected to include a security person and a personal handler who would follow Gregory at all times. To Gregory and his representatives, it didn't matter where in the draft he went, but where in the NFL he went. He was adamant that it would be with a team that would support him. Dallas has been through similar experiences in the past, providing helpers to wide receiver Dez Bryant after he was drafted. And there are expected to be Gregory Rules and followers in Dallas as well.

Can Ernie Adams do some voodoo bullshit with all these 2nd round safety busts and come out with Ed Reidenstein or something.

What is the percentage of players that have gotten an "off the field problem" caveat. 50. 60%

I guess this is stating the obvious but it's almost becoming a routine part of the scouting report.

I was surmising that they made the pick at the last minute to avoid having him picked in the early third, thereby NOT picking who they wanted at 64.
