Packers seem oddly fond of running on two-point conversions. With terrible running backs behind a ravaged OL, no less.

So it was a long flight/journey to Atlanta. It's gonna feel a lot longer on the way home. Helluva run Pack but damn, they just ran into a buzzsaw today.

I would have kicked there, make it 22. Not that it's a huge deal, but if you somehow get really lucky with onside kicks you've guaranteed you need to hit 2 more 2 point conversions. Get it to 22, then 15, then 8 and worry about it.

Not that it matters because this game is over, but this line of thinking is completely backwards. The sooner you know how many points you need, the better. If you know that you'll need a 2 point conversion at some point, you should go for one as soon as you can.

Yes. Thank you.

Plus, when down by more than two scores, a failed two-point try after the first TD can be made up with an extra success later.

Exactly - you don't want to end up in a situation with 30 seconds left where you go for two and fail and lose the game. If you're going to need an additional possession, you want to know as early as possible.

Watching a replay of Dom Capers' defense leave guys open with no one within 15 yards. The Falcons are good but holy shit is this Packers secondary terrible.

Yeah that is what I noticed early in that game two. During the Pats game you could at least argue NE was running complicated routes and Brady was moving around the pocket so guys could get open. Atlanta just had Ryan drop back and Jones and Sanu ran simple 15 yard routes and were wide open.

It seemed pretty clear to me as it happened. Minor humblebrag, but this was my response to that question when it happened.
His body was in the end zone when he recovered it, hence the touchback.
Think of a gunner downing a punt. If they are in the endzone when they down the punt, it is a touchback, regardless of whether the ball crossed the line.

The fact that there are different rules for whether the ball is "in" the endzone for purposes of a touchback (body part without ball suffices) or touchdown (ball must cross plane) seems like another example of the epicycle-on-epicycle nature of football rules--the powers that be keep adding more rules regardless of consistency or ease of understanding. (Just this year the touchback rules became even more complicated, with the kickoff exception to the general rule that the ball comes out to the 20.) Would there really be a problem with using the touchdown rule for touchbacks? Does not seem like it to me.

As Bill Clinton might have said, with the endzone, it depends on what the meaning of "in" is.
