My cousin Sean is an attorney doing some work on for the Yawkey estate.  He says he found this in a pile of documents to be shredded. If this is authentic, it could change our understanding of the early days of the sabr movement and allow us to revise the "Moneyball" narrative.

Help me, SoSH!

I do believe Tom Yawkey died in 1976.  Reeks of being a fake letter even without that detail...decent attempt at being funny by whoever created this though.

April 1 wasn't chosen at random.

"Napalm was to Dow Chemical" was a nice finish. This letter isn't the first time I've associated Zimmer and Napalm, though.

The perfectly straight lines of type on what appears to be a crumpled piece of paper -- hmmmm.

The leak by a lawyer of a damaging document -- hmmm

Pretty funny though.

Jeez. A couple of losses and everyone's sense of humor goes missing.

Good work.

There wouldn't be a logo like that Y thing anymore than 15 years ago.

Instead it would be flowing type with something like:

Boston Red Sox American League Baseball Club
Thomas A. Yawkey, Proprietor

Yawkey never struck me as much of an exclamation point guy.  It's good to see this side of him.  Although he fails to mention the experiment of only letting Bernie Carbo bat against RHP.  I wonder if that was covered in a separate letter.

Well played, Bernie C.

Fuck, do I miss The Daily Fin. Absent that, nice to see you making a comeback of sorts.

If I ever go with a SOSH signature, "I am no Hindu, but I know what I know" is going to get some consideration.

Reading this (and the prior one) in Gerbil's voice certainly adds to the entertainment value.

Now I know why he was always so exasperatingly late in relieving the starting pitchers by writing this correspondence.

Freaking moron couldn't even spell Don Aase's four letter last name right. Willoughby? No way. Didn't believe in commas I guess. No minimum intelligence level required  for MLB managers back then I guess.

True, but one must give his typing skills some love.  He typed it so well that the ink doesn't wrinkle even when the paper underneath it does.  I bet Darrell Johnson couldn't do that.

Nicely done.

And thanks for bumping this one, putting it ahead of the stupid "Red Sox dynasty" thread.

When Boston Red Sox owner Tom Yawkey died in 1976, he left three large coastal islands to the state of South Carolina for protection as a wildlife sanctuary, free of hunting and the disruptions caused by sportsmen.

Now, a little known plan in the state Legislature would allow hunting on part of the Yawkey Wildlife Center, a 20,000-acre complex of islands, marshes and maritime forests near Georgetown that make up one of the most significant nature preserves in South Carolina.

The change would be a big deal, because if approved by the Legislature in the state budget, it could drive away thousands of ducks, ruin world-renowned alligator research — and, ultimately, cause the state to lose control of a natural area it has managed since the baseball club owner’s death, say critics of the budget plan.
