I'm sure there will be some strings and additional costs attached, but I couldn't be happier at first glance. No more magic links to watch Pats games, and I service I already subscribe to. (Though I'm sure there will be an upsell on this. There has to be.)

If Sunday Ticket is moving to ESPN+, that's a huge game changer. IIRC, you could only get the streaming only option for Sunday Ticket on DirectTV if you couldn't get satellite service at home.

Or it'll be like UFC shows, where the base price for espn+ is the same, but sunday ticket isn't included in the base price and costs extra
Yes, it'll be like when Disney Plus releases movies that you have to pay 30 bucks for, (e.g. Mulan or Rya) even if you're already a subscriber.

And that is fine. This is awesome news. Direct TV was awful, their app was awful, and AT&T is awful.

I think that was originally the case, but it hasn't been like that for a while. In fact, their broader access to streaming the Ticket led me to cancel DirecTV.

The good thing for Carton is that when you're already known as a fraudster with no credibility, saying crazy stuff that's wrong won't cost you much in terms of reputation.

This is better reporting.
https://deadline.com/2021/03/nfl-rights-renewals-streaming-amazon-nbc-cbs-fox-disney-1234717538/
The new agreements will begin with the 2023 season and run through the 2033 season. The league did not comment on valuation but a person familiar with the terms told Deadline the haul exceeds $10 billion per year over the life of the contracts. That has been the eye-opening figure percolating in recent press reports.
The Super Bowl rotation will see CBS air the big game in 2023, 2027 and 2031. Fox will get it in 2024, 2028 and 2032. NBC will have it in 2025, 2029 and 2033. ESPN and ABC will simulcast it in 2026 and 2030 in a first for ESPN and a return for ABC for the first time in decades.

ESPN+ is worse. Hardly ever works well for me. Just google it to see the enormous volume of complaints. They seriously need to upgrade their service in time for this.

Their interface sucks. I've been watching some 30 for 30s. It blows me away they dont have a "continue watching" feature. I had to search for the docs each time I wanted to continue watching. Crazy.

More details from the ESPN scroll:

MNF will have doubleheaders for 3 weeks
MNF can flex games beginning with Week 12
ESPN gets a Divisional Round game
1 exclusive game annually for ESPN+

ESPN cannot possibly broadcast Divisional Round playoff games - much less a Super Bowl - with Steve Levy as their play-by-play guy. Sorry, but that's not on. (He seems like a nice guy and is an OK-to-middling commentator, but they need someone with more gravitas and experience in that sort of role.)

Mind you, having all of these marquee games on tap will probably help ESPN sign a bigger name to front their coverage. I wonder if this is the path - and the $$$ that will be on offer - that tempts Jim Nantz to leave CBS?

This is going to be confusing!

what this sounds like to me is that big time AFC games are still more *likely* to be on CBS and big NFC games on FOX, but lower level regional games won't necessarily be on the "right" conference's network. But nothing will be cut and dry anymore.
In the NFL's new TV deal, there will be no traditional Fox NFC game or CBS AFC game anymore, "essentially eliminating the idea of cross-flexing games."

I love when the Pats are on Fox and not CBS’ shitty coverage so I’m all for this.
I strongly suspect that's a "grass is always greener" reaction. Well, that and the fact that when the Patriots have been on Fox in recent years, for obvious reasons they've usually drawn one of the top commentary teams - Fox's lower-tier commentators are not great, in my humble opinion. (Has Chris Myers called a Pats game in the past decade?)

Comparatively speaking, still better than Don Criqui and Beasley Reece... ;)
How many Sundays does CBS have 7 games? At most, there are 13 games on a Sunday, assuming no byes. If there are byes, it's between 10 and 11 games. So if Fox has more than 4 or 5 games,(which will certainly happen a bunch of times) they are shut out. They got the Z slot.

As far as I know, Gus is still the lead pxb guy for Fox's college football coverage. Guessing that's why he's 7th on the depth chart for the NFL. He's not going to work the NFL every week.

Judging by the schedule and the bye weeks, he certainly won't be working every NFL week. He will work a handful of them, at most.

I'm not sure this is the right spot for this, but I did not want to pollute a more popular forum/thread (like the Week 1 NFL thread), and I thought this issue might be related to the new TV deal.

I watched last night's Cowboys/Bucs game on NFL GamePass today, and it was still making me watch ads. In past years, the ads have been gone by Sunday night for most games, and the ads have always been gone by the next day for any game.

Does anyone know if this will be a lasting change this year? The format looks a bit different - GamePass seems to be trying to feed you into watching more condensed, drive-specific footage with the full replay a smaller link to the side. Any chance this is a one-off for the Thursday night opener? Or, will we be having to fast-forward through ads all year, even on GamePass?

Another question that I *think* this may be the best thread to ask in... Did anyone watch AFC games via Paramount+ yesterday? Specifically, were you able to watch the Pats if you were out of market (meaning, not in the protected Boston TV area)? Curious if Paramount+ truly streamed the full slate of CBS AFC games yesterday, and what the geographic restrictions were.

I checked it and it was just the games the local was broadcasting. Here is what it says on website.

How can I watch NFL games on Paramount+?
All Paramount+ subscribers (Essential, grandfathered Limited Commercials and Premium) can stream NFL games on supported devices and platforms. As long as the game is broadcast on your local CBS station, it will be available to stream. On game day, watch via Live TV to catch all the action.
