New film on the "birth-death" of the Alliance of American Football

“When the AAF ran out of money and things went belly-up, the main guys were nowhere to be seen. They were kinda just gone. Gone. There were players who didn’t even have [luggage]; the day they got kicked out of their hotel, they were leaving their hotels with clothes in trash bags because everything the league owned was confiscated. That was bags, luggage, anything in the hotel rooms the hotels took because they weren’t paid either. It was kinda a free-for-all,” Potter said.

Ridiculous. This kind of thing isn't uncommon though with these leagues. It's almost become an ironclad rule for officials: Money up front. Too many guys have worked semi-pro, arena, alumni type games and then been left hanging. Hell, sometimes even NCAA schools would take months to pay. I know for a fact the AAF officials did this: I'll leave to go to the game when the money hits my account.

And now we come full circle -- the league that was born out of the XFL 30 for 30 will now become a documentary itself. I look forward to the league that this film inspires.
