NESN Announces Series Of Alternate Telcasts Of Red Sox Games

If it gets the younger fans interested in watching the games and it's a separate broadcast, go for it. I just couldn't imagine any scenario where I'd actually prefer listening to Dave O'Brien, but here we are.
I’ve heard the name Jared Carrabis but had to ask Google who he is.
Anyone have any perspective on how he’s likely to show up in this role? Because while it obviously matters who the co-host is for a given game, it seems like the appeal of these alternate broadcasts will depend in large part on whether you like Carrabis better than O’Brien.

Jared will be very good to listen to. He will make things fun and exciting while not taking away from what's going on on the field.
Can we get a 3rd channel with no announcers? Put an advertising frame around the screen for the whole game to make up for lost drop-in revenues.
I would pay a subscription service for this. Just the sounds of the game. I watch most games on mute now. If you ever watch some NESN games from the 80s, it is absolutely amazing how much less the announcers talked. Sometimes they will go 3 pitches in silence. I realize there are those who like the giggling about thrown pizzas or whatever, but I would pay good money for just ballpark sounds.

Apologies in advance for a quick cross sport post, but since we cut the cord it wasn’t always easy for me to see the Celtics games (easier for Finals) But if ESPN had the game, they would sometimes make a free feed available, I think it was represented as ESPN3, but that was essentially a basketball all 22 equivalent. No voiceover… It was oddly compelling.
I am not a big Dave O'Brien fan (I think that he's a really good radio guy, but he doesn't translate well to TV -- Dave, I saw what happened, I don't need to hear about it in excruciating detail. He also seems to let his color guys hang. Someone will tell an interesting story that is germane to the game and he'll be like, "Uh huh, yup. Two and two on Devers."), so hopefully this will be an improvement on the normal feed. But I have a feeling it will just be another guy talking a lot, but I find Carrabis interesting so maybe it'll work.
They also had less time to talk, because the games moved. Now that the games are quick(er), I was hoping for less talk.
It wasn't that long ago that for Bruins and Celtics, you could switch the language of the broadcast and the announcers would drop out and you'd only get the ambient sounds, including PA and organ. (I think it had something to do with multi-channel audio, though I was only using the TV speakers). Not any more, though.
I'd be very into that. Watching the National Championship game months back I just used the stadium sounds option. Probably the best thing I've seen available in a while and I can't believe ESPN, of all places - came up with it.
Endless monologues about squanders or people breathlessly editorializing about PEDs punctuated by prom night jokes. Where do I download the app?
i love dave o brien because he was the play by play guy on high heat baseball my fav baseball seiers graphics were awful but the rest of game was 10/10
I like Carrabis. He's a true fan, he's witty and he knows the team and its history. He was Governor of Red Sox nation or something like that when he was a teenager. He grew up bloggingand vlogging about the Sox. He has real connections to the players and is not afraid to let his fanboy out. He seems to balance his cockiness and his self effacing humour well, and I think has outgrown the worst of the Barstool norms. I have no idea how all of that will translate to a live broadcast, but if it makes the game more relevant and exciting to a younger crowd, that will be a terrific outcome.
Some years ago, an MLB.TV subscription provided the option of watching with nothing more than ballpark sounds. It's not an option these days, and I don't remember when they discontinued it. I recently moved from Minnesota to Connecticut, so when I watch games on NESN, I prefer to listen to the radio feed on my laptop. The only problem is that the radio feed is slightly "faster" than the tv feed, so you end up hearing the result before you see it on tv.
I kinda wish they just hired his podcast crew to do the broadcast. I think they have a good balance of levity mixed with actual baseball, which you kinda need to reach a broader audience that tunes out the pure analytics talk. However, I'm sure you need names like Papelbon and stuff to sell the deal.
I listen to both of Carrabis’ podcasts pretty frequently at work and really enjoy both. Good mix of real baseball discussion and entertaining nonsense. He’s been in the booth for an inning or so at a time several times over the past few seasons I believe
He's good. He'll be great. I've known him since he was in high school, and he's developed to be a media star - and effective.

No. I think you can only get it if you live in the broadcast area and can subscribe to 360 -sucks!
