Ok so here is the issue, I stupidly upgraded to the new OS El Capitan without checking if a DJ controller I had had made a driver for it yet (spoiler alert: it has not)

I have an older Macbook in the house as well as this 1. I have backed up all my music files off of my current Macbook, and would like to delete the OS and copy the one on my older model onto this computer.

Is there a simple way to make this happen?

Do you have a backup of your MacBook (one that was upgraded) that was done prior to the upgrade?

Time Machine evidently was off, so the answer unfortunately is no.

I have backed up all my files that I need. I have version 10.6.8 on my other MacBook, which is compatible with my DJ hardware. Is there a way to copy the OS onto the external hard drive then delete the newer version off my new mac and install the 10.6.8?

unfortunately the only way that I know of that won’t cause many issues revolves around time machine…

BTW, what is the program/hardware that is not compatible? If its a “name brand” I would be shocked (especially DJ programs) that they have not updated the compatibility yet

Hey sox,

Its the Numark Mixdeck, and they currently do not have a driver out for it (unfortunately because they have since put out a MixDeck 2, so i doubt its a priority for them)

After speaking with a friend at Apple, I can bring it in to be wiped and reloaded with a working version of the software. Thanks for trying to help though.

Mods this thread can be deleted/closed whatever.

In case anyone else is actually interested in rolling back OS X versions on a Mac, you need to download a disk image (which can be extracted from the installer app packages on the App Store downloads) of the version you want to install. It needs to be no older than the version that came preinstalled on your computer though.

Once you have this disk image file, there's a command line utility built-in to newer versions of OS X to build an install drive on an external drive partition or a thumb drive.

Instructions can be found here: http://osxdaily.com/2013/06/12/make-boot-os-x-mavericks-usb-install-drive/
