Yuck, 5-33 from three point range and, just as costly for their chances, 14-35 from 2-point range. And only down by 9.

Tennessee survived. I won’t be surprise if they lose Saturday.

Meanwhile aggy was right - they weren’t a 7 seed. They’re more a 16 seed.

Kelvin Sampson, fresh off an unimpressive win vs a 16 seed, is already crying about it being a "road" game Saturday vs Auburn. What a loser attitude from a one seed.

Still enough to win by 20. Colgate really got pasted.
Texas completely locked Colgate up down the stretch. 2 points in final 6 min and I think 4 pts over the final 9. When they defend like that they look like a Final Four team……they don’t always defend like that.

Many of the top seeds went through the motions today against inferior teams yet only Arizona got caught. Tennessee is an interesting look…..were they coasting today or did they really miss Ziegler that much? Either way, this has to be the most brutal draw that a 4-seed could imagine.

Lots of times teams make deep runs after barely surviving their opening round game. Right off the top of my head:

2003 - Marquette went to the Final Four after barely surviving 14 seed Holy Cross in the first round, 72-68.
2014 - UConn won it all but barely got by 10 seed St. Josephs, 89-81 in OT, but UConn needed a putback in the last seconds to send that to OT.
1995 - Arkansas (defending champs) went to the title game, but barely got by 15 seed Texas Southern 79-78 in the first round.

There are more, but it happens. Just get by that first round and then you can put it in gear. Survive and advance.

Absolutely true. Everyone overreacts to the first game. Similar thing happens in week 1 to week 2 in the NFL. Margin of victory matters not a lick.

Tennessee and Houston seem to have serious concerns due to injuries though. Probably not an overreaction.

NC State needed double OT to beat Pepperdine in the opening round in 1983. Of course they were a 6 seed and most of their wins that year were close.

@DJnVa we getting a new thread for today or rolling with this one? Given the UVA-Furman ending and the Princeton win, I'd put yesterday in the W category, so I think you've earned the right.
