I think this is absolutely right. Michigan State has more offensive rebounds than they do second chance points, if I'm not mistaken, which is an amazing stat.
Yeah, that is a crazy stat. You just assume athletic teams playing Syracuse will get some rebound jams and stuff. If Syracuse can score and make free throws they can be in it late against anyone.

The problem now is they have to face a team that is a better version of them now with nearly a week to prepare. But they know each other.

Probably. But MSU is exactly the kind of team that should wax SU - huge, athletic, great three point shooting, and they rebound like crazy. And yet they lost. Go figure.
You’re right but they shot 25% and 8-37 from downtown. And Cuse toon 15 more FTs. Basically a worst case scenario and they lost by 3. This one will sting Sparty for a while.

Totally agree. MSU probably wins 9 out of 10 times against SU. Especially when SU plays a walk in for more than six minutes down the stretch.

But hey, it's the NCAA tourney, and before the game Boeheim said that crazy things happen.

Jay Bilas must be crying. Another ACC blue blood getting crushed.

For sheer athleticism TAMU might be the best team in the tournament. Jesus do they get up.

Yup. They have a real shot of a FF in San Antonio, which would be nuts.
They were fifth in the country at Christmas then had some off court issues and injuries that derailed them. They waxed Kentucky in College Station and lost by only one in Lexington.

And they were just a terrible, terrible match-up for this North Carolina team that lacks veteran interior size and depth and have to rely on outside shooting, which is the #1 thing that will get you beat in March, as you see today.

Also, ACC basketball has been wildly overrated.
UNC certainly underachieved this tournament but they went to the title game the last 2 years. The ACC has played for the title the last 3 years and has won twice.

Also, Syracuse beat Michigan State today and is in the Sweet 16 along with Duke, with Clemson and FSU still to play. UVA and UNC underachieved, no doubt. NC State and Virginia Tech were 50/50 games to begin with (as were say Syracuse and FSU). Overall an underachieving tourney so far but plenty of time to make up for that. By my count the ACC is 7-4?

edit: 8-5 pending Clemson and FSU?

I am mostly just mocking Drocca's pronouncements about how incredibly deep the ACC was this year, and how they may have 5 teams in the Elite 8. Guess what, some teams overachieve, some teams are let downs, and the ACC is another power conference.

People keep saying this but the team that finished 11th in the league is in the Sweet 16. And Duke is probably going to win it.
Yeah, Duke is probably gonna win it. So how much are you putting down on that at even money? Nothing, because it's not close to true.

Insane to do that with 4 fouls. Coach was wrong not to pull him. That's a humongous loss for Cinncy.
Coach has a lot of balls to yell at the kid the way he did, when it was the Coach who let the kid talk him into letting him stay in the game with 4 fouls in the first place. Coach has nobody to blame but himself for that.
