The NCAA’s Board of Governors announces it has voted unanimously to extend NCAA President Mark Emmert’s contract to Dec. 31, 2025.
And AD’s are not happy.

I have legitimately never heard so many commissioners and ADs upset with the job Mark Emmert has done as I heard last month. And now he's gotten extended. https://theathletic.com/2488540/2021/04/01/ncaa-president-mark-emmert-faces-a-surge-of-ad-commissioner-discontent-theres-no-vision-were-floundering/

The texts are coming in ... people are in shock.
Mark Emmert got extended before the NCAA's Board of Governors even got the full review from the law firm hired to do a gender equity review of its championships (!)
they buried the news of this extension under “other business”

It's not the length of the thread title that matters ... it's the period at the end

I would not expect the full minutes of the meeting to say much about Emmert’s extension, never mind this brief summary. If the board had a detailed discussion of Emmert’s performance or contract status, that would have happened in a confidential executive session.

That said, I’m as puzzled as everyone else by the substance of the decision. Emmert has been at the helm for a decade and appears to have lost the confidence of some key stakeholders; even if the board thinks Emmert is doing a good job, I’d expect them to be discussing succession planning, not extending a contract that already had two years left on it.

The NCAA being the NCAA, there's probably a buyout that exceeds the value of the contract.
