The problem with 8 is filling the stadiums. I went to semi and final last year. No way I would go to a third game. Move the first round to home games you say and all it means I'll skip one of the next two if we win. It's too much on the fans. Natty had empty seats. 4 works.

We don't have to be go to 8 because 4 v 5 is a hard decision.

They should really have the NCG on a Saturday if they want better attendance.
They won't do that because ratings matter more, and the NCAA has zero interest in going h2h with wild card week.

This. The last few picks of March Madness are controversial. There is no size where you get all the teams in that might have a shot without putting in teams that have no business being there. Multiple group of five teams? Really?

Yeah, I should have put "would" in my comment instead of "should". Although they didn't seem to care about ratings last year for the semis. The Saturday of the NFL conference title games would work but that might be too much of a break. It would be nice if they worked something out with the NFL, like having the wild card games earlier like they used to, but that ship has sailed.

Practically speaking, it would be difficult to go past 8. One would want at least 3 weeks between the first round and the bowls so people could plan for travel; as PiMB says above travel is tough.

Saban and Meyer both said injuries were more of a factor playing 15 games, so I'm not sure how much I'd want to see more games if there are many more injured players with another round.
