Not on twitter, what's Plaxico saying? Whatever it is, he's probably right. Spartans got completely, insanely porked tonight. There was no contact between the defender and the Nebraska receiver. The Michigan State defensive back turned his head around and was running step for step with the receiver, while looking back at the quarterback the entire way. He never made contact, never made pushed the receiver out of bounds. The receiver literally just ran out of bounds and ran back in, and the refs completely screwed the pooch. The ref even watched him go out of bounds when he threw his hat, but I have no idea what he was looking at to determine he was pushed out. Plaxico and every other MSU fan should be fucking livid. As an NCAA fan with no rooting interest, I'm just pissed that it cost us a chance to watch MSU/OSU as a battle of unbeatens. That's the type of shit you look forward to if you are a fan of this sport and the refs took it away.

Meanwhile, I've been singing Derrick Henry's praises for two years, and he was my preseason runner-up for the Heisman, behind not Fournette, but Ezekial Elliott. People keep talking about Henry and Fournette, but it was Elliott who went off and put the OSU on his back in the Big Ten Championship and the two playoff games last year (he had something like 800 yards and 8 td's in those three games IIRC). All he's done this year is run for 100 yards in every single game, and score a TD in all but one. He's at like 1,500 yards from scrimmage and about 15 td's for an undefeated team. The quarterbacks get all the hype there, but he is their MVP and he and Henry should be 1/2 for the Heisman, IMO.

Sparty did get hosed...really poor officiating.

That said, I've been waiting 14 years

It was a bad call but Sparty had the ball on Nebraska's 41 with 7 seconds to go and Cook basically stood around and ran the clock out. Run a slant/middle route that's been working all night, call timeout, kick a FG, win the game. They also had a sure INT in the end zone before the TD that was dropped.

So they played a part in their own demise too IMO.

So basically if you are the receiver and the DB has position along the sideline, touch the DB, run out of bounds, run back in and you can catch the ball. Absurd.
Yeah. Bullshit call, justified with bullshit after the fact.

This is another example where the different standard for calls made on the field vs. calls made in the replay booth turn common sense upside down.

After the play, the refs get together and since they cannot decide whether the reciever was truly forced out or not, they make the "safe" call: rule it a TD and kick it to the replay booth. Doing so shifts the burden of proof and effectively prevents the replay official from evaluating the actual play, because the only question for him is whether there was any contact at all. Since he cannot state with certainty that no contact existed, the call stands.

The irony here is that only the replay official was able to see what we saw from the sideline shot: that both players were turned and looking for the ball; that the defender had established his position legally, and that a force out was not an appropriate call. But he couldn't call it.

The increasing caution of on-field officials is going to inevitably lead to more results like this.

Edit: Took too long to get coffee and was pre-empted. Sorry for the redundancy.

DukeSox is trolling with the Clemson fans post because I know he knows. For those of you who have never been to a Clemson home game, fans are invited on the field for 30 minutes after every game. There are 3-4 walkways down to the field, and they get to stay for 30 minutes to interact with players, etc., then walk up the hill to rub the rock or get a picture. Happens every week, whether they beat Wofford or FSU. Granted more fans last night due to the nature of the game, but it happens every week.

Not storming the field for a big win. They "storm" the field every week. Happens if they lose.

Edit: New board, new fun I guess. Can't figure out the new quote feature.

What is starting to come into focus on these close plays where officials call it a TD or a fumble because its an automatic review is the fact that the play then gets the benefit of the initial call. It's happening more and more, which means a call an official may not have made otherwise won't get overruled because there isn't clear evidence. The MSU game is a perfect example. The booth doesn't want to second guess what the line judge felt was intent, when he probably didn't even form that opinion, he just didn't want to make a judgement call. So he calls it a TD and its not overruled because the booth can't get into his brain.

Belichick's "review everything" is starting to make more sense. Give the coaches the ability to challenge it all, and let the refs call stuff straight up. Remove the benefit of the initial calls on those plays where the ref just called it one way because he knows it would result in an auto review.
