Was flicking channels and stopped on the women's tournament just now.

Their timing rules are better than the men, I think. Four 10-minute quarters. One media timeout under 5, and the first called time out is always an extended each quarter. Two free throws on the 5th foul in the quarter, and they reset each quarter except for overtime.

I like it better. I think 5 minute chunks are better than 4 minute chunks in terms of flow and watchability. And anything that gets rid of the one and one is good. (It's unduly punitive -- or conversely not an adequate reward -- with where the three-point arc is and the prevalence of three point shooting.) The one thing I'm neutral about is adding two additional buzzer-beater scenarios during the game and needing to go to alternating possession twice to deal with the restart. But it works for the NBA, and I think it encourages coaching strategy, by having teams make decisions about the 2 for 1. It's not clear to me whether the clock is supposed to stop on a made basket in the last minute of each quarter. If I were boss, it would.

Syracuse is very limited offensively, and UVA is exploiting that defensively. Refs aren't calling much and letting UVA maul Syracuse every time they try to take it to the rim.

Does yelling "and one" after you get fouled make the ball more likely to go in? Asking for a friend.

This is what I'm seeing. SU has taken it inside a bunch of times and there's contact pretty much every time, but almost no love from the refs.

Syracuse would be wise to put a hand in Perrantes' face once in a while.

One of the drawbacks of replaying the ACC tournament is that a big part of the fun in March Madness is kids getting to live their dream by playing teams from the Conference and experiencing big-time college basketball. This feels a little bit like a circle jerk tonight.

At least we avoided another Kansas v. Oklahoma.

Also, they serve wine at Applebee's?

I don't give a shit if this is the 4th meeting if Cuse would show up and make it a game. Doesn't feel tired to me, these ACC teams playing today only play each other once during the regular season.

Syracuse is doing much better getting defensive rebounds out of the zone than I thought they would. I was expecting second chance points by Virginia to be the difference, but so far the difference is that Syracuse just can't shoot. Virginia's defense is great but Syracuse can't miss open looks and can't win shooting under 30 percent.

The run was impressive, but field goal percentage evens out. Where Syracuse won was surprising. They won the boards.

Teams not handling the press is really a story in the tournament.

Don't get the love Bilas and the "voters" gave Brogdon. Sure he's an amazing free throw shooter and defender, but this year I have been more impressed with

Brice
Ingram
Paige
Barber
Auguste
Gbinje
Jackson
Arod

And Parrentes is just as valuable to his team
Brogdon can't put his team on his back like the other guys

Brogdon might be the best defensive guard in the country. He was WELL deserving of the player of the year honor and only Brice came close.

That was amazing. Watching UVA fail so miserably on such a grand stage is a perpetual wet dream of mine. Hoping we get Cuse vs. Oklahoma in the final; Hield and Richardson have probably been the two most outstanding players of the tourney so far.

Why is it surprising? They have better athletes and it wasn't traditional man to man (zone for su and doubling by uva)

Back to Virginia for a moment. I mean, Syracuse had a nice run shooting-wise and got some turnovers on the press, but it was what Virginia did AFTER the press stopped that fucked them. Virginia just stood around passing on the perimeter when Cuse went back to the zone. It was like they had never seen a 2-3 zone before and had no idea how to attack it. 4 guys were standing around just passing the ball or calling for the ball despite being well covered. They were still in the game but their offense decided to go into stupid mode.
