Fresno State is off to a good start in a stacked Stanford Regional. They lead a tough UC Santa Barbara team 8-0. Their ace, Ryan Jensen, has a no-hitter going through five innings. No way they'll replicate that 2008 national championship, but I'd love to see them make it out of this regional.

I'll give UConn some love here before their 2019 run likely ends tonight or tomorrow.

UConn has now made their 6th NCAA tourney appearance in the last 10 years and their 2011 team had 10 players drafted - including George Springer and and Matt Barnes. Coach Jim Penders is probably right up there with the top college baseball coaches in the country when you consider the disadvantages a team from New England has compared to southern college baseball schools.

Playing as a 2 seed in #9 OK State's bracket, the Huskies lost their opener 8-5 to Nebraska despite having 19 hits and striking out 4 times - while Nebraska fanned 16 times. A fluky loss.

Yesterday in the losers bracket, UConn beat up 4 seed Harvard 10-1 and drubbed Nebraska this afternoon in a rematch 16-1. They have totaled 58 hits in 3 games. However now they play 1 seed OK State without much pitching left and the need to win 2 in a row.

On a side note, 2 other CT schools represented well yesterday, with Central Connecticut State University defeating California and Qunnipiac defeating 1 seed East Carolina. 3 Connecticut schools winning on the same day in the NCAA tourney playoffs. Damn impressive.

UConn beats Oklahoma State 5-2 to force a winner-take-all game tonight (Monday night).

UConn reliever Jacob Wallace - one of the top relievers in the country - faced the last 7 OK State batters of the game.....and struck them all out. 7 up, 7 down.

The kid sits mid-90s with a nasty slider and can reach upper 90's when he needs to. Perhaps the Sox should take a look see come draft time.

Arkansas advances to the Super Regionals where they will host Ole Miss. Georgia and Georgia Tech eliminated.
Arkansas, Vandy, Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss, and Miss State remain from the SEC.

SEC West exerting their dominance in this sport too. LSU-Ole Miss will be a classic SR. Too bad it will come before the CWS. Although having more locals there instead of Nebraskans/Iowans may add to the drama.

Stanford @ Fresno State in a barn burner. Tied 3-3 going into the bottom of the fourth, Fresno St. hit a two run bomb. Stanford then goes ya-ya for a two run jimmy jack in the top fo the fifth and has two on with nobody out still. 5-5 game now.

I love life or death baseball...

And then the Fresno State guy cannot throw strikes, walks in a run, gets another scored by sac fly and then gives up a two run double.

Fresno's run comes to an end with a 9-7 loss. They just couldn't overcome that disastrous 5th inning that DeJesus described. It sucks getting bounced after making it through the winner's bracket, losing the last two to Stanford. But Stanford is pretty good.

Their ace, Ryan Jensen was drafted by the Cubs last night, so that's cool. I was hoping the Yankees would get a shot at drafting him.

OK State/TX Tech game is a good one. OK State homered in the bottom of the 8th to take a 5-4 lead. If this holds, we could have our first Game 3 of the Supers tomorrow.

The two top seeds UCLA and Vandy have to win an elimination game tonight in order to force Game 3's tomorrow.

Wow, TX Tech just changed pitchers in the middle of the count after a balk. It's 1-2 on the batter and Tadlock brings another arm in.

Amazing extra inning game between Michigan and #1 seed UCLA. Tied 4-4 in the 11th. Michigan commits 3 errors. Bases loaded no outs. UCLA hits into a 5-unassisted DP. One-hopper, third baseman steps on bag (force out) and tags the runner on third who thought it was a caught line drive. IBB to load the bases again, then a4-3 ground out. No runs scored in the inning.

Auburn/North Carolina today, UNC is low on pitching so they started their closer but he walked the first four batters and was pulled. Three pitchers later, the inning finally ended at 13-0 before UNC even got to bat the first time, second biggest inning in NCAA regional history.

I'm sure I'm not the first to make this joke, but Mack Brown just needs VY to get back into it.

Pretty cool exercise done by D1 Baseball. They put together an all-star team of the Super Regional Era which spans the last 20 years. Here's what they came up with.

C-Buster Posey, FSU
1B-Dustin Ackley, UNC
2B-Rickie Weeks, Southern
SS-Khalil Greene, Clemson
3B-Kris Bryant, U San Diego
CF-George Springer, UConn
Corner OF's-Seth Beer, Clemson and Preston Tucker, Florida
Utility-Brendan McKay, Louisville
SP's-Trevor Bauer, UCLA/Thomas Eschlemen, Fullerton/Michael Roth, South Carolina/Stephen Strasburg, SDSU/Jered Weaver, LBSU
RP's-David Berg, UCLA/Huston Street, Texas

This Florida State vs Arkansas game is featuring a pretty good pitching duel at 0-0 into the bottom of the fifth. LHP Drew Parrish has only surrendered two hits for Florida St while Isaiah Campbell has given up four while striking out eight guys. And J.C. Flowers, who is Florida St's closer and CF made a pretty damn spectacular catch against the wall early in the game.

0-0 into the ninth after Drew Parrish gets out of a runners on the corners jam with one out by following up with two Ks in a row (on changeups). This game is sick!

Austin Martin with only the second multi-HR game at TD Ameritrade since it opened as he leads off the game for Vandy with a one run shot and then hits a two run jack in the seventh . Vandy 3, Louisville 1 into the eighth.

That throw was horrible and the second one in a row (the first was from the SS) that almost cost them the lead. I love when teams continue to grind their way out of a hole.

HOLY SHIT!!!! Baseball doesn't award victories until the final out is recorded. Miss St 5, Auburn 4...wow

Miss St walks off on grounder off the pitchers glove and then off the 2nd baseman’s glove. Unreal.
Gilbert smoked that ball though - it was tough to grab. That throw was what cost them but credit to Miss St for some big ABs to start the inning and Auburn's Burns couldn't get outs when he needed them.

Arkansas ties up Texas Tech 4-4 in the top of the eighth after scratching a run out of a walk, a single and a nine pitch AB that ends in a sac fly.

Michigan's Tommy Henry...wow... He is shutting out Florida State with 90 pitches through eight innings with eight Ks and only three hits. Death by a thousand changeups indeed...

Henry with a complete game shut out and threw only 100 pitches. He finishes with nine Ks and only three hits. Michigan goes to 2-0 in the CWS.

Been following him since he was a HS junior when he dominated my son’s team in an early round of the state playoffs. Great kid.

Fun fact: All three of Michigan’s starters are from Michigan. Two are from the same town: Portage. One of their best relievers is from Portage too. Something in the water there.

That is impressive - I wouldn't peg Portage or any part of Michigan as a baseball hotbed (I know Kirk Gibson is going to limp over and hit me on the head for that).

In any event, Henry is just the sort of pitcher that gives even D1 college kids a tough time - a crafty LHP with a filthy change-up. All of those guys can hit fastballs and especially straight ones that come in around 90-92 MPH. But his change-up is a thing of beauty and had the Florida St.guys waving a quite a few pitches. It wasn't quite as impressive as Kumar Rocker's no-hitter but it was a one of the better pitched games you will see in any baseball season.
