And i guess you don't relaize that when i posted that they had done nothing yet!

And really this move is nothing more than a warm body and bench depth, i guess better than nothing but nothing to get excited over!
Hate to break it to you, but the trade was announced an hour before you posted. Something you could have looked up before posting.

It's also a trade which addresses a place of weakness for the Celtics -- a backup for Al - and does so with a chronically undervalued big who has been a net positive wherever he's gone. As others have pointed out. Several times.

The best team in the NBA, which has three NBA starting quality guards, two of the best forwards in the league, and two very good defensive centers... just added another good back-up to complement Kornet. It's not world-shaking, but I'll note that a lot of the teams which have made "big moves" are teams in desperate positions (Lakers, Suns) or teams that are looking to add draft capital.

FWIW some of us are just following along here (stupid job responsibilities getting in the way of a holiday!) so we should probably forgive people for not seeing everything.

That said, the Tweets and posts are greatly appreciated. Lots going on. This is Seconds Szn apparently.

I get what you're saying, but there's literally a thread on the main page. We should be forgiving, but there should also be standards: for example, if one were to be snarky about the Celtics 'doing nothing,' checking to see if they have in fact done anything would make some sense.

I'll leave it at that. I'm enjoying gamethreading all of this too.

None of us could have known it at the time, but it's funny in retrospect to consider some of the concern about including a second second in the Muscala deal. Hell, it's almost like we *gained* three seconds in that deal.

Sorry not @ you. Just being preemptive about my own posts.

The Warriors apparently needed to relive the GP2 experience. Interesting.

Did I miss anything or are the Raptors not actually going to pull the trigger...again?

Has “5 2nd Round picks” replaced the “2029 pick swap” or something? Never seen anything like this.

I still wonder why they didn't just stop at Bey. I know GPII gives them the feels and has experience in their system, but Bey is the better player.
He is definitely not the better player by any metric I can think of. He's arguably a slightly better offensive player (less efficient but better passer, turns it over less), but he's a significantly negative defender while Payton is a really good defender.

I'm declaring Ben Simmons as the trade deadline winner.

Limited playoff appearances and non-contention is in his wheelhouse

The Durant and Kyrie deals were huge deals, obviously.

Everything else is mostly mediocre teams shuffling around their mediocre players.

So, who is most prominently available and in the wheelhouse of PBS on the buyout market?

Will Barton
Kelly Olynyk
Josh Richardson
Danny Green
Russell Westbrook
???

I assumed the Pels traded for JRich to keep him?

But I guess maybe Barton? None of them really.

Green is an obvious target but he feels like he is in the NBA veterans clique and will likely wind up with one of the LA teams. But Green would be a great fit for the Cs imo.

This thread has been a lot of fun to follow. The NBA truly is FAN-tanstic!

The Cs already had the best roster in the NBA and I think Justin Jackson, who is bad and never plays in a meaningful minute (actually he did like five games ago, but whatever), being upgraded to a big who can shoot the three and play decent defense, is a great trade deadline for Brad.

As for the Cs competition for the Eastern Conference:

- I am very skeptical that Jae Crowder makes the Bucks better. I think he's been over-rated for a while and is basically worse than Grant Williams at this point. Meh.
- I think Jalen McDaniels is supremely meh and a worse defender than Thybulle, who actually seemed to slow down Tatum last night. Don't get that at all.
- Cavs did nothing and are a little bit scary, but are 12-16 on the road and I don't think they've got the juice.
- The Nets are now essentially irrelevant.
- The Heat did nothing and are still pesky, but not particularly worrisome.
- The Knicks got Josh Hart, which is a good get for them, but they still shouldn't be a threat.
- Hawks/Bulls, whatever. I think Saddiq Bey has failed to get better and that team is heading toward completely blowing it up.

Finally, there's the Raptors. Poeltl. There's some significant chance we play the Raptors in the first round, so that's of some interest, and the Raptors play hard and Nick Nurse is good and all of that, but I don't think anyone thinks they're an actually threat to take a series with the Celtics.

Assuming good health, it now seems like a significant upset, if it wasn't already, if the Cs don't make the finals. They seem like a clear favorite.

But the West seems wide open. Maybe that turns into such a slug fest that whoever makes the finals is battered and broken by the time the Cs face them?

In other words, your nickname for him would be Mr. October, the equivalent of the Boss' derisive Mr. May nickname for Dave Winfield. :)

He has 300 games in the league, turns 26 in a couple of weeks, and has never shown the slightest whiff of improvement over his minus 1.5 offensive DARKO. Could happen though.
I'm not sure that getting 12 minutes a game is going to help his development. He needs to go somewhere and log minutes.

Yeah, I think Thybulle the offensive breakout is a pipe dream, he's in his 4th NBA season and shows no indications, plus he wasn't much of an offensive player in 4 years of college. If you're lucky maybe he locks in his 3pt shot with new form and he's a capable 3pt shooter, but beyond that.....

Thybulle has had 4 offseasons to improve his skillset to earn more than 12 mpg and has failed to do so.

Positionally the Lakers swap out Bryant for Bamba and Beverley for Reed
I get the Bamba/Bryant part - it is close enough in valeu when you consider offense/defense, but Davon Reed is not really an NBA player (he played only 1200 minutes and is 27 years old), while Patrick Beverley most assuredly is
