This game was so predictable. The only surprise was Houston playing as well as they did in the 1st half.

Really hope Paul can play (effectively) and Houston can win game 7, but I won't hold my breath

First time there will be two G7's in the Conference Finals since the '78-'79 season.
How many Port Cellar denizens can name the four participants in those finals without cheating? I impressed myself by coming up with three of them. I was a wee tyke — my vivid hoops memory doesn't really start till the beginning of the Bird-Magic era — but I remember thinking those late '70s champs were really cool.

Bonus question: who was the Finals MVP that year?

Guessing: Sonics, Blazers, Bullets, and some other east team? Pretty sure Sonics Bullets were in the finals, they played back-to-back finals.

Edit: hadn't thought it through but that series was the last year a Western Conference team not from Texas or California won a title. That's bonkers.

That was DJ’s finals. Sonics-Bullets. Had to look up the conference finals losers.

Think it was the Suns losing in the West. In the East it should have been the 76ers with their talent, but that doesn't feel right.

I thought Gus Williams won finals MVP. Was it DJ?

Sonics and Suns in the West, Bullets (what a great name, so fitting for Baltimore) and Spurs in the East.

The only reason I remember it was the Spurs is because my brother was in San Antonio at the time and was a fan of the team, still is as a matter of fact.

I think three former ABA teams made it to the NBA playoffs that year, might have been two?

I had forgotten the Spurs were in the East.

And that fact about only CA and TX teams winning finals is pretty amazing. That won’t change this year; and next year it kinda looks like GS and Houston again, plus the Lakers if/when they team up some combo of LeBron, Kawhi and PG...

Wow. The Bullets/Spurs game was decided by 2 points, and the Sonics won over the Suns in OT by 4 (Suns fans must have been suicidal in the 70s). And these games weren't even televised live. I loved watching the NBA even back then. Besides the Celtics, I liked watching that Sonics team, with Gus Williams, DJ, Sikma, Lonnie Shelton, Downtown Brown, and PC's Joe Hassett.

I also loved watching the Iceman, and Larry Kenon and his amazing 'fro. The Bullets had a very balanced squad of tough, skilled players, with undersized center Wes Unseld getting things going with his amazing rebounding and outlet passing, all time great PF Elvin Hayes, solid SF Greg Ballard, and a really gritty backcourt of scorer Bobby Dandridge and Kevin Grevey. DJ had a monster all around Finals, and got the MVP despite Gus Johnson averaging 29 ppg in the Finals.

That is remarkable. I mean, it just underscores how tough the Warriors are to keep contained.

On a related note, the TNT guys had Draymond Green on last night post-game and for those who are familiar, Barkley has been a pretty fierce critic of his, calling him annoying and saying he wanted to punch him in the face. Barkley, predictably, backed away from his comments and when questioned by the rest of the crew about what he finds annoying about Draymond, he said that Green never thinks he's committed a foul. I know Green may be the most disliked player here in the Port Cellar for his nut flicking and histrionics. However he conducted himself with dignity imho. Here is his response:

"I can get bad with that at times," Green admitted. "My mom always reminds me of it, my grandmother would say it, my uncle was really hard on me about it. So I could understand that. Nonetheless, there's much respect from my end"

And no, I don't expect anyone here who hates him to dislike him less - I know some folks want him out of the league and there is no changing that. Just sharing an interesting little sidelight to the series and what has been an ongoing war of words between Barkley and Green.

I thought that the segment was great, and I came away from it liking Draymond more than I already did.

HEY SOSH!

I know this is a BIG ASK, but I cut the cord and I don't watch much sporting events these days, but I really want to see GAME 7. My free Hulu live service has run out.

Does anyone have a good suggestion as to how I can watch this game? It's just me and my 4 year old son. I have Apple TV. I won't abuse anyone's code or whatever. Sorry. Kill me.

Yes to the above. Just make sure you have an adblocker running. You won’t need to download anything (ignore anything that says you do). Just keep pressing the “play” icon and close any windows that pop-up. Good luck and go C’s!!!

Sing up for free YouTube TV 7-day trial. Just don't forget to cancel! Like I did...amd now I'm out the $40 but it was totally worth it for this series and The Terror.

Foster is the ref tonight. Hilarious.

I wonder if the NBA wants Houston to win. You get a competitive finals, it keeps Lebron off of the Rockets next year, and the bad optics of the Warriors winning every year goes away.

How does it keep Lebron off the Rockets next year?
Wouldn't want to join an already established champion, I assume is what he means.

I agree he probably wouldn't want the Durant Look.

Lebron wouldn't go to the team he beat for a title or pull a Durant and go to the team that beats him.

But I could see him going to Houston if the Warriors knock them both out.
Yeah, I don't think that stops him, if Houston is where he wants to go. Of course, the only way we'd ever know that answer is if he did go to Houston after playing them in the Finals because he'd never tell us why he didn't.

Is anyone else on basketball blackout tonight?

Just have no interest in listening to Shaq, Kenny and Charles discuss the Celts/Cavs G7.

Not quite 2003 Sox/Yanks or 1986 Sox/Mets pain, but didn't realize how much this would sting.

I'm watching with the game on mute to not hear Cavs/Cs stuff. If Houston wins, awesome. Then I'm flying to Europe tomorrow and going on full timezone-enforced basketball blackout all the way through the finals.

I actually woke up feeling OK. I didn't think the Celtics had much of chance in the finals and the build for next season will be 08 Patriots level fun.

Looking forward to this game.
