Why not make the series interesting and place a big bet on GSW? Oh wait, the return would be what?-- 10%. And that 10% is partially the odds of 2 of the top 4 GSW players going down with an injury.

This is the result of unintended consequences of the max contract. Otherwise, Curry and Durant would be making 60+ MM/yr and no team would be able to afford both.

You think so? I could see it going 6.
LeBrons teammates could barely guard Tatum, Rozier or Brown.. and they got wide open looks all series from 3. If Kyrie had been healthy it would have been over in 4-5. GS has Curry, Durant and Thompson.. all of them will hit wide open threes.. and Durant will take it to the basket. This is an extraordinarily weak Cavs team.

Free throws are unbelievable tonight. The W's are 5/12, and the Rockets are 10/16.
Wait.... I thought this was an all time ref job? How could the Rockets have more 50% free throws than the team Scott Foster gave the game to? The end of game numbers were Warriors 7-14 and Rockets 13-22. Hack a Cappella obviously contributed to this number, but it isn't shocking that the refs let a game 7 get super physical.

It's really impressive that they would, with halfway reasonable officiating, have been up slightly in the midst of an 0-23 stretch from three.

It is really awesome that in the middle of this cry fest you neglected to mention to the two touch fouls in the first three minutes that took Klay out of the first half.

Alternate magic hypothetical: The refs took the Warriors best big game player out of the game early so Houston had a chance without Chris Paul. Of course, neither theory is right, the refs just let this one get really physical.

The Rockets lost for the same reason they lost game one and six. When the Warriors went to the next level in the third quarter they tightened up and accepted what they knew to be true: they couldn't beat Golden State when one of the greatest teams ever hit their top gear. Morey did an admirable job of building a team that could beat the Warriors, and they might have if Chris hadn't gotten hurt (though they lose in 5 if the dubs have Iggy). They needed him out there to pull them out of their funk in the second half. I have to think he would have started attacking the hoop somewhere in the middle of the 0-27 stretch.

From a roster building perspective, it looks like the Anderson contract was the one that Morey got wrong that cost them their objective. Anderson was a zero on offense (no FGAs) and his defensive "presence" on the court in the third quarter allowed the Dubs to repeatedly get Steph switched onto Anderson, repeatedly destroying him and getting the best streak shooter alive hot. He was a -12 in 8 minutes, all of which came when the Warriors made their run in the third quarter. If Morey had used that $20M/per better, they had a good chance of winning this game.

It's not just, or really, the max contract. The Warriors getting Durant was a bizarre fluke, a combination of 1) Curry signing a well below market 4/44 extension before suddenly turning into an MVP; 2) the max contract limiting what Durant could sign for, and 3) the salary cap jumping 20+ million in one year at the same time Durant became a free agent, allowing the Warriors to fit Durant's max under the cap.

.
Perhaps the first one could be considered a touch foul, but even Klay didn't complain about the call. He had position but reached in for no reason. The second foul he absolutely hacked him, and the third is a call every single time when you jumo into the shooter and not only bump him, but land underneath him.

So via your explanation you just proved it is the max contract--- If no max contract, Durant signs somewhere for 60 MM per yr and he no longer fits under the cap even before Curry's supermax extension. With max contracts as a limiting factor, there is no reason for Durant not to sign with the team he prefers or thinks should win, since no one can substantially beat the GSW offer.
