Free throws are unbelievable tonight. The W's are 5/12, and the Rockets are 10/16.
Wait.... I thought this was an all time ref job? How could the Rockets have more 50% free throws than the team Scott Foster gave the game to? The end of game numbers were Warriors 7-14 and Rockets 13-22. Hack a Cappella obviously contributed to this number, but it isn't shocking that the refs let a game 7 get super physical.
It's really impressive that they would, with halfway reasonable officiating, have been up slightly in the midst of an 0-23 stretch from three.
It is really awesome that in the middle of this cry fest you neglected to mention to the two touch fouls in the first three minutes that took Klay out of the first half.
Alternate magic hypothetical: The refs took the Warriors best big game player out of the game early so Houston had a chance without Chris Paul. Of course, neither theory is right, the refs just let this one get really physical.
The Rockets lost for the same reason they lost game one and six. When the Warriors went to the next level in the third quarter they tightened up and accepted what they knew to be true: they couldn't beat Golden State when one of the greatest teams ever hit their top gear. Morey did an admirable job of building a team that could beat the Warriors, and they might have if Chris hadn't gotten hurt (though they lose in 5 if the dubs have Iggy). They needed him out there to pull them out of their funk in the second half. I have to think he would have started attacking the hoop somewhere in the middle of the 0-27 stretch.
From a roster building perspective, it looks like the Anderson contract was the one that Morey got wrong that cost them their objective. Anderson was a zero on offense (no FGAs) and his defensive "presence" on the court in the third quarter allowed the Dubs to repeatedly get Steph switched onto Anderson, repeatedly destroying him and getting the best streak shooter alive hot. He was a -12 in 8 minutes, all of which came when the Warriors made their run in the third quarter. If Morey had used that $20M/per better, they had a good chance of winning this game.
