How toxic is Wiggins and is there a Gordo or Kemba solution that can be leveraged in Back Bay way? .

Is Wiggins too risky?
Wiggins isn't risky, he's just not that good and paid too much. The Celtics should want no part of him, if the Celtics are trading with GS it's a 3rd team taking on Wiggins, someone who might think it's worth it because they can't get FAs there, and Wiggins while overpaid at least can score.

Re Wiggins-the thought is if Gordo walks we lose his salary and the ability to reload. Wiggins is a place holder and as he's got a longer contract the Celts could get paid back with a pick for the service. And I'd think Gordo might not pass on the Warriors. and there's nothing to prevent the Celts from re-dealing Wiggins.

The Celtics would be better off losing Gordo for nothing than taking on that albatross contract. Wiggins is just not good and has 3 years left on his contract.

Hayward seems unlikely to truly walk, he'll want a S&T. And while we want to keep at least SOME of the salary slot, we don't want it to be 28M for Wiggins. They'd much rather a TPE, or one or two lower salary guys who are easier to trade. If Wiggins can be re-dealt, you're better off just making it a 3 way deal (or an immediate re-deal) because he has no value on-court for BOS, and being stuck behind Tatum/Brown/Smart isnt going to help his value.

Ouch. That really sucks for Klay and the Warriors.

That's the Warriors pretty much done next year then. They're not winning with Steph and Draymond plus kids.

Love that trade for Dallas. Richardson should fit well with Luka but then again, anything goes well with him. Richardson was yet another victim of the process and should revert back to his Miami days where he was a very good defender and an average scorer with some upside.

Richardson always scared the hell out of me when the C's played Philly. I'm glad he's gone.

Agreed but fortunately the 76ers failed to integrate him.

Dallas isn't likely to make the same mistake. They just upgraded their defense and added a player who looked to be flirting with above average offensive skills in his prior two seasons in Miami. He isn't going to torch teams or remind anyone of even Curry the younger but he has some playmaking ability. Depending on what else they do, the Mavs could be a problem.

Just ... fuck.

Love, condolences, and secular prayers for a full recovery, Klay.

2020, man.

We've probably seen the last of his prime. Will be almost 32 when he returns coming off a really tough injury. Really is too bad. Killer for GS given that Curry turns 33 in March.
Two really tough injuries. I feel for the guy. To rehab an ACL and get back out there and have to deal with an achilles is criminal. Dare I say his legs are his Achilles heel? I'm sorry, I'll leave now.

I like watching Klay even though I dislike GAW, this sucks.

They have to consider trading Steph and Draymond now, right? This could easily be a Nets picks situation for them if they play their cards right.

that would make 3 sellers (Hou, OKC, GSW) in the WC so far and we're still a month away from the season

Probably depends on how they project Wiseman to develop. If they think he’s an All Star caliber player, then the next few years of Curry plus Wiseman as another All Star talent at least keeps things fun and potentially in the mix, even if not a full contender. Plus I don’t see Joe “light years ahead” Lacob suffering through a bottomed out stretch.

On the other hand, if they don’t think Wiseman is all that special, then it’s probably time to tear it down. Even then, though, would be really hard to see them trading Curry, given all he means to that franchise. We’ll see if they have Ainge’s ice cold blood for trading away franchise favorites.

Milwaukee is waiving Ilyasova.
In itself, not surprising BUT... he was a key to salary matching Bogdanovic, so looks like that deal is really dead.

Draymond should and will be dangled. Even with a potential Nets-like haul, the prospect of the Warriors trading Curry, especially with their new arena, seems extremely slim. On one level, it forces Myers hand to rebuild around late-career Curry a bit sooner than planned but that could be a blessing.

Even at full strength and some replacements, the Warriors were likely nothing more than an outside contender so using the next year or two to restock the shelves a bit seems like a decent plan.

The problem is that Curry is ~35 at the end of that restocking, and likely won’t be the same guy then.

Curry only has 2/89 left on his deal, right? This year is basically lost and then you have him on an expiring deal. Warriors are going to have a really tough call. Do you pay another monster contract for the decline years of a franchise fan favorite and risk or do you reboot now around Wiseman and whatever picks/young talent you can get for Draymond/Steph? That Klay contract is basically a sunk cost now and won't be very movable. Curry would fetch a monster return so you kind of have to at least quietly consider it.

I understand your logic - and am not disagreeing with it - but Steph Curry is the face of the franchise - his value to the Warriors goes far beyond the court.

Short of Myers being able to obtain a well known blue chip young player (e.g. Williamson or Morant), he will have a hard time selling the fanbase on any Curry trade. In some ways, this was always the Warriors plan - they got the arena built in SF knowing full well that its use would coincide with Curry's inevitable decline. However they also knew their new customers - some of whom care little for the actual sport and simply want to be able to post from where its happening - are essentially brand buyers. Curry is the Warriors brand.

Man, those are some rough constraints, especially combined with the SF exodus.

The impact of the pandemic to the team's finances is clearly a wildcard. And for the record, I think they should trade Curry but, again, I think the threshold for doing so is so high as to render it unreasonable. Would anyone here do a trade centered around Tatum for Curry?

I love Steph, even at 32 coming off an injury, but not a chance.

I figured those would be the responses. I would think about it but I am leaning in the direction of no. That said, in my completely unscientific poll of a few Warriors fans, they all said no too.

It simply illustrates how difficult it is to trade these types of players.

You trade them to a team that has a win-now, short-term timeline and a lot of future picks to offer.

I just don't understand what kind of trade makes sense for a player like Curry. The Warriors would need back a lot of picks and probably at least one very good young NBA player. If I'm New Orleans or Memphis, I'm not punting on Zion or Ja due to their age and cost control, so those kinds of prospects are out the window. A team like the Nets or Philly don't have the young assets to get it down. The only options to me would be desperate teams with a reasonable war chest, like if Sacramento offers Fox, draft picks and salary filler for Curry, or maybe Minnesota if they put Edwards on the table.
