I don't think he will go to Denver, but I think that's the most interesting place if he wants a second career act as a veteran leading a young core. They stunk last year, but they have good young players and the ability to trade for a disgruntled veteran superstar. It's not far fetched to see them as a top four team in the west with Wade and one additional piece.

If he stays in Miami, he's a mascot. If he goes to Chicago, he's making money and challenging for alpha dog status on a lousy team. In Cleveland he's just a mercenary. Honestly none of the fits make much sense. Probably why he'll end up back on the Heat.
Wade is meeting with Milwaukee's owners today. Unlike others I've got Denver as the front runner and unless someone is willing/able to come close to that offer I feel Wade is going to take the paycheck there which gives Cleveland time to clear numbers off the books by February. There is zero chance imo that he passes up $20m right now to sign with Cleveland.

I doubt the Celtics make any big moves now, but they can clear about 30M pretty easily right now.
In 2 days it becomes easy to clear 14 of that, and the other 17 is guaranteed (though likely pretty tradeable).

“@WojVerticalNBA: Pending Chicago’s belief they have deal to clear cap space, Dwyane Wade is nearing commitment to sign with Bulls, sources tell @TheVertical”

RONDO AND WADE ON THE SAME TEAM

Oh my god what kind of odds can I get in Vegas on whether they have a fistfight in practice?

Rondo Wade Butler if 2014 was an outlier for Butler then that may be the worst spacing 1-3 in the last decade.

Also kind of hope Danny renounced some FA to squeeze an asset out of CHI for eating Calderon's $7M

I was about to ask if anyone could think of a worse backcourt, shooting-wise, in recent memory.

When does Butler just refuse to play for the Bulls out of disgust and/or distress?

I'm hoping it's tomorrow.

so 3 pt shooting:

Rondo- 29% career
Wade- 28% career
Butler- 33% career

Good luck finding open space in the paint.

So Wade left Miami over $7M to go to...Chicago?

I really hope Danny is on the phones trying to get a Butler deal done.

Wild offseason for Chicago, all for the sake of treadmilling super hard.

Deals are just in principle at this point. Chicago should back out of the Rondo deal. He has no place next to Wade and Butler.

Calderon to Lakers. Nets miss out on whatever asset is stapled to him.

Bwahahaha fuck Pat Riley. Enjoy paying Whiteside $25M a year to put up bullshit numbers with no one around him. I all of a sudden like Wade, or at least don't hate him anymore. Good for him.

This deal pretty clearly means there is no chance they trade Butler. You don't sign a bunch of old guys and trade future picks (even 2nds) if you plan on trading away your star.

As for $7M, it was more that he probably took 25+M or more in paycuts over the years. Now he has a pretty good season, and they ask him to take a cut (% of cap) again so that they don't have to trade McRoberts? Probably didn't help that it leaked that Whiteside would get less than max if Durant signed but was getting the max if not (at the expense of Wade getting more). Beyond that some local writers say that Riley gave him a take it or leave it offer and the two haven't spoken in a week, Arison has been the one going to meetings.

Wade did my Nuggets a favor by not picking them. I never understood their interest in him. They are, at best, a fringe playoff team in the west, and the addition of Wade wouldn't have changed that even if he made them slightly better this year. However, his addition would have taken valuable minutes away from Denver's plethora of young guards (Mudiay, Murray, Harris, Barton, Beasley), all of whom have a lot of talent and have the chance to develop into quality players.

This opens up a ton of cap space for Miami doesn't it? They'll likely be big players in FA next summer now.

A lot depends on Chris Bosh. If he never plays again, his contract as I understand it comes off the books in February; however, if he tries to resume his career in the regular season and experiences another and now career ending bout of blood clots, his salary will continue to count against their cap for an additional full calendar year (i.e. through next summer's free agency period).

As a Bulls fan I was hoping they would just tank this upcoming season.
I honestly don't know if these recent moves get them closer or further from that goal.

It will open up even more if Hassan Whiteside looks at this Heat roster and goes all DeAndre Jordan on Miami. I'm rooting for this way more than I should.

Oh, I understand why he left for $7M, I just don't understand why he picked Chicago, other than the home town angle. The Bulls are going to be bad next year, with or without Wade or Butler.

Does it really matter where he's going if it's not GS, Cleveland, or San Antonio?

Possibly big.
Likely means the Celtics don't sign anything long term because it would interfere with max offers next year,

Seems like this info should be finalized before teams can make free agent offers, no?

Yes, this greatly affects the rest of FA for the Celtics and all teams. I'd say they are done with big signings unless they are for 1 year. It's more important now than before to roll over some cap space to 2017-2018.

Have to assume Spurs match that for Boban even if it's a strange structure.

NM- Steins says they won't/can't.

edit- forgot they don't have Bird rights.

That's kind of my point. He left Miami over $7M to go play for a team that doesn't have a chance to win and likely won't be a spot for top free agents any time soon. Have fun with that.
