Yeah, relative to what other people are getting paid, the Lin contract seems like a steal to be honest.

Hahahahahahahaha. Coach Brad Stevens deserves half of that.

Oh well, good for him, seems like a nice guy.

Parsons to Memphis is sneaky good for the C's. Keeps them out of a full bottom five tank so they convey their pick to Denver next summer and start the two year clock on the Jeff Green pick, while clinging to an aging/injured core that could deteriorate at any moment.

Safe to say that when we determine if some team can be this year's Portland in getting value free agents, it won't be the Blazers.

WOW. Almost $18M per year for Evan Turner. This is truly insane.

Edit: Also, how much money did OJ Mayo just cost himself? 30-40 mill?

If Turner was never traded to Indiana he'd be getting this same deal. He's the same player he was in Philly.....it was jumping into the Pacer situation 50 games into the season that hurt him.

So, who starts the "Thank you Evan Turner" thread?
Happy for Evan - he grew on me over the last year to the point I will almost miss him.

To that point, people also know what ET isn't. He can be the backup ballhandler and take pressure off Damian and CJ to create. A decent depth guy for PG and SF, perfect for an uptempo smallball lineup. He'll have good coaching, appropriate expectations, and experience. 3 things he didn't have when he joined the Celtics.

Yeah but his lack of an outside shot is going to mess up the spacing that Portland works to get. I don't hate it from a depth standpoint and if anyone else can get maximum performance out of Turner, its Stotts. Still, that is a lot of money for someone who isn't a big and isn't very good at any one skill that is valuable in today's NBA.

Two Cleveland Cavaliers who couldn't sniff their playoff rotation when the games really mattered were just paid a combined $102m.

Silly season is an understatement.

Agreed with all of this except the bolded. He's shown quite good ball-handling skills in transition and traffic. That's a pretty important skill in the high-motion small-ball help-defense era.

18.5% of cap is usually reserved for the top 3-4 guys on your team, so it still seems a huge number for a team that has Damian Lillard. But in the funny-money recalibration moment we're in, I don't hate it. He could pressure Aminu for the starting SF spot.

And the previous playoffs, when Delladova averaged 25 minutes per game for the Cavs? Burying a guy for a bad playoffs is a mistake, especially when so much of the game is matchups driven.

Delladova is good. Lumping him in with Mozgov is weird to me. I'd love to have him on the Celtics, especially at that price. He plays reasonable defense at two positions, is a career 39% three point shooter, and can credibly handle the ball.

Solomon Hill to New Orleans for 4/52
And this is another strong signing in "The Year of the Swap", since it adds depth to a Pelicans squad that was right there with BKLYN for the 3/4/5 draft spot most of the season...

Don't discount his reputation. I wouldn't be surprised that there's a sense that he's been incredibly lucky being a dirty player behind LeBron, Kyrie, and Love. Off that stage, he could garner much more attention from refs and thus drive his own value down.

Dellavadova will, I suspect, join Tiago Splitter as guys we later realize have their value materailly overstated by advanced metrics. He has a role, and he's certainly not useless, but I think some of the support for him is based on undercontextualizing metrics that in fact we know require context.

None of that makes his contract a bad one this offseason, though....just having a legitmate rotation role seems worth $10 mil a year right now.

The luck to become a free agent this year... wow.

There is going to be a lot of chemistry problems in the league next year now that some of these guys make more than the stars on their team.

That's probably true. The best comp for him I can think of is Beverley, who likewise has a bit of a dirty player reputation. Both seem like very good players however.

This really is madness. Go ahead and sign Horford to the max, might as well get a quality guy with all of this funny money being thrown around.

I put Beverly ahead of Delly by a country mile but I really dislike the way the latter plays his game, so I'm biased.

I don't lump him with Mozgov at all as he plays a position that has always carried tremendous value as evidenced by the contracts 7-foot rotation centers have received. I view Delly as a guy who greatly benefitted by having LeBron around as a point forward who will be greatly exposed without him in a somewhat similar way that I always felt Rondo would be exposed without Pierce and KG. To me he's a 10-12th man roster fodder.

You could make an argument that Dellavedova is being paid like a tenth man too.

They don't follow baseball?

Also - the NFL's labor relations/salary/contract chickens are going to come home to roost soon, right?

I can't tell if this makes Horford to the Celtics more, or less likely.

Unless Millsap is out, you'd have to assume more. Howard and Horford are frontline big men who compete for the same minutes.

EDIT: Obviously, Millsap is not out barring explosive trade.

That's what she said.
David Aldridge tweets. "Atlanta going all in..."

Does he think about what the moves mean or does he just chase down leads?

I think it's a, "oh shit" move

That signing means they are definitely losing either Horford or Bazemore.

The Hawks can't bring back Bazemore and Horford after signing Howard so I think it makes it more likely that Horford signs with Boston.

If the Hawks let Bazemore to keep Horford, how are they going to manage a front court of Howard, Horford and Milsap? It will be like 10 games before Howard starts complaining about not getting enough touches.
