Yeah, but then again, he's only going to be 29 at the end of this deal. And if he has a bad 6 weeks in Denver he could get buried on the bench for who knows how long. Certain amount of strategic long-term planning there
Very fair point, didn’t realize he’s that young. there’s probably significant financial upside for him.

Just saw Bertans got 5 so it takes him to 33. Jesus, that's insane.

I thought 5 year deals were for special cases but apparently not.

Marcus Morris should pay me to watch him play basketball. These contracts are absurd. Pay good players ALL the money but don’t pay Morris $16M

I understand why Detroit wanted Grant and even why he would find that opportunity appealing (Detroit may have become relevant again today but in a rubbernecking sort of way). But damn he was really solid for Denver and fit them well.

Lots of strange contracts out there. Morris at 4 years and 16M per is wild.

If you halved each of those and told me he got 2/16, I'm still not sure that's a good deal for the team.

None of these teams have the cap room to get the Pacers enough under the cap to sign Hayward, if I’m reading the Pacers’ situation correctly.
yep, at least not individually. Hypothetically the Pacers could make 2 trades to get under, but it would be counterproductive.
Hayward is either going to IND on a S&T or he's headed elsewhere

Should Lakers fans be concerned that Harrell was god awful in the bubble with his 18/7 dropping to 10/3, no lift, big drop in paint finishing, lack of energy and lost about a third of his rotation minutes?

Or did the bubble dynamics hurt him the same way they helped guys like Murray, Warren, etc?

I wish my field paid for mediocrity the way the NBA does.
I mean, it's being "mediocre" among the top 0.0001% of people doing a thing. A mediocre NBA player is still one of the 150 best people in the world in the field.

It's not like CEOs, where once you get a job you can be actively terrible at it in comparison to what many people below you would do but because your resume said CEO before you keep getting massive payouts for the next 2 decades to be bad elsewhere

Very true, but also the CBA is specifically designed to ensure larger contracts for mid-tier free agents at the expense of the best players thanks to the “max contract” concept, MLE and similar exceptions, etc.

He's an nfl RB. A bunch of people about to find that out

It’s the Klutch Lakers. LeBron and Rich Paul run that team.

Clippers had basically no choice on Morris. Once they lost Harrell, they didn't have a mechanism to get frontcourt players other than paying Morris.

Edit- when you are a team like LAC, in a short window, you can't afford to lose players over a few million (ie look at MIL screwing up the Brogdon situation and how it forced them to make a bunch of not great moves to try and keep Giannis).
Why didn't they offer that 4-64 to harrell
Team chemistry. Harrell and Paul hate each other, so had to lose Trez. Had utmost respect for the Clippers front office, but they didn't anticipate the poison Kawhi/Paul would bring. Maybe they couldn't have? This isn't easy. But the Morris trade and now signing is laughably dumb. The rumored signing of Rondo would be lame, too, if that happens.

He lost his grandmother (who raised him/was his best friend, etc) so left the bubble and came back out of shape and not into it -- not aided by obvious tension w/ Kawhi and Paul. Harrell was excellent in the playoffs the previous year and obviously great pre-Bubble. I'm not sure where the nfl RB analogy is coming from -- dude is 26 and just entering his prime. Absurd to think he's about to decline.

He was visibly out of shape after returning to the team following his grandmother's death. Based on the projections people were tossing around during the season, his bubble performance costs him a good deal.

If I'm the Lakers I'm concerned that their three best players are all power forwards. I wouldn't kill a guy over a few bad weeks, but I don't think this signing is the home run that others do for LA.
