NBA Finals Gamethread or how the NBA has more downtime than Game Of Thrones

Why isn't Sunday's game 2 on earlier? Players have plenty of time to rest after Game 1.

Do they really think the increase in viewers in the Pacific and Rockies will make up for the game ending after 10:30PM ET/9:30 CT in the heavier populated eastern half of the country?

Should be an afternoon (3:30 ET?) game on a Sunday. Are they scared of golf?

Or maybe we should be happy about the extra hour v. other nights, and STFU.

I am guessing the answer is yes. There is a reason they schedule these games the way they do, and that reason is $$$$$$$

Cleveland's best chance to make the series interesting is for LeBron to play all out for 45 minutes a night on both ends. I hate the downtime, but I'll take that tradeoff if it gives a good finals.

9pm tonight is more obnoxious than 8pm on Sunday, which is plenty obnoxious on its own. East coast gets completely screwed and it's a constant screwing, whether it's baseball playoffs, college football & basketball final, or NBA finals. And, to a lesser extent, NHL playoffs.

I'm at the point where basically no result would shock me. But I think it's the Warriors' turn again.

For us yes, but least they have the excuse of wanting to get Seattle, Bay and LA people home in time to see the tip after fighting traffic.

I think (and I believe most agree) that the ending is more important

East Coast almost always gets completely screwed, very true

Pretty sure starting the games at 5PM PST would be much worse for Warriors fans.

I live on the west coast and I had to leave work early so I wouldn't miss the 6PM start time during the 2010 finals. Noone is going to be happy no matter what but 9PM EST is a good compromise.

The 2016 World Series had start times of 8 PM EST (with one 7 PM start). NHL Stanley Cup games are at 8 PM EST. College football championship was at 800 PM EST.

You seem to be complaining about a non-existing problem. The major sports need to cater to not just you and your east coast friends. If the game starts at 700 PM EST, which you seem to be wanting, what do you think that does to viewership and attendance and whatever else with a 400 PM west coast starting time?

College football championship is after 9pm. 9:20pm start, if I recall correctly. And it's a long game. World Series games starting at 8pm is a travesty, considering those games are extremely long. Games that start at a time that will likely result in a 12am finish, which is a late finish. This isn't news, this is a common complaint.

I agree with Ale Xander regarding the late start time for the Sunday games. The NFL seems to survive showing playoff games and the Super Bowl at earlier times on the weekend. It's weird to me that it's impossible for the NBA and MLB.

Yes it is a common complaint. Doesn't make it legitimate just because a bunch of east coast folks want it to be so.

It's perfectly legitimate to want sporting events to not end at midnight. The fact that it's a common complaint only adds to the legitimacy.

You seem to be ignoring more than half the country in your complaints.
That half can watch the ending of the game without having to sacrifice the next day. So I'm not ignoring them, as much as saying the critical parts of these games are played at 11pm and later, when the west coast can reasonably be expected to be awake and watching.

Screw LBJ and his quest for Brady level GOATness. Brady is chasing MJ. Don't want LeBron in that mix.
Go Warriors.

I've wanted the Cavs the past 2 but I'm undecided on who I'm going for. I think Golden State wins. I won't know who I want to win until sometime through the first half. I only liked Klay from the past GS teams but I really like Durant (even with the punking out thing).

If Curry does too many of his goofy smiles I'm definitely going for the Cavs.

9pm on the east is no problem for a night owl like me but my kids won't see the tip on a school night game until they're in middle school, forget about them seeing the end of the game.

It is kind of amusing that on this politically left wing website everyone turns into Ayn Rand when it comes to the association maxing revenue wrt the timing of their programming

Golden State missing everything so far. Can't see that lasting. Cavs would be well served to take advantage of that while they can.

Durant is a nightmare matchup for Cavs unless Lebron wants to risk foul trouble
