Maybe coaching is in Al’s future?I live dowb
It sounds like Mazzulla and Horford got them there. To hear both Js talk about Horford, it’s pretty clear the impact he had on their growth and maturity as pros.

For Kyrie, it's always all about Kyrie. Also, I’ve never seen a crowd eat an opposing player’s soul for three home games like the Garden crowd did to Kyrie. The fake little exaggerated congratulations he gave out were the cherries on a shit sundae of a Finals for him.
I keep hoping that Al will stick around as a player/coach a la Bill Russell.Maybe coaching is in Al’s future?
KP could just as easily have said “he’s a psycho but he’s our psycho.”KP on Joe: Guy is a psycho but he knows exactly what to say to us.
Joe was still coaching when Kyrie tried to congratulate him. The expression on his face was priceless. For Kyrie, it's always all about Kyrie.
Lipreading Joe as Kyrie went around to hug everyone, eventually landing in CJM's space: Okay.Joe was still coaching when Kyrie tried to congratulate him. The expression on his face was priceless.
That was hilarious. Joe wanted nothing to do with accepting congratulations.Joe was still coaching when Kyrie tried to congratulate him. The expression on his face was priceless.
Hang this up there with Longfellow's "Paul Rever's Ride!"In ancient verse, let Boston's tale be told,
Of Celtics' glory, in their green and gold,
Through trials fierce, their hearts remained so bold,
Eighteenth their crown, their victory foretold.
Oh, city fair, where champions arise,
With banners waving 'neath the azure skies,
The Celtics' might brings tears to joyous eyes,
A harvest rich where every treasure lies.
From losses past, they forged a mighty path,
In '22, the Warriors' wrath,
And '23, the Heat's fierce aftermath,
Yet now they stand, with triumph's allopath.
Jayson Tatum, hero of our time,
With skill and grace, in battle so sublime,
Beside him Brown, in perfect rhyme,
Their synergy, a legend's prime.
Jrue and White, sentinels, so fierce and wise,
With hearts of fire and keen, discerning eyes,
Guardians true beneath the vastest skies,
Their every move, a counter to disguise.
Joe Mazzulla, with his wit so dry,
A mastermind with gaze that pierces sky,
In strategies, the foe's defeat does lie,
His genius shines, a beacon high.
Departed legends, watching from above,
Jo-Jo White, in wisdom and in love,
Bill Russell's spirit, like a dove,
Havlicek, Heinsohn, Walton's grace, thereof.
In heaven's court, they see the Celtics' reign,
Their legacy in every win remains,
Their spirits guide through every joy and pain,
In Boston's heart, their presence shall sustain.
Mike Gorman's voice, the sport's eternal song,
With every call, he rights what once was wrong,
A champion, his legacy so strong,
In fans' acclaim, he shall forever belong.
The Lakers, left behind in shadows deep,
No longer shall their boastful echoes seep,
For Celtics' rise, their triumphs we shall keep,
In victory's light, our hearts shall ever leap.
Eighteenth their crown, yet first in might and grace,
Their victory, a tale time can't erase,
With every cheer, they fill the sacred space,
The Celtics' name, in history, we trace.
So sing, oh Boston, with a joyous voice,
In Celtics' triumph, let your heart rejoice,
For in their victory, we all find choice,
A future bright, where every soul finds poise.
Their epic tale, through ages shall endure,
A testament to hearts so brave and pure,
In Celtics' green, our spirits find their cure,
Their legacy, forever shall be sure.
I own it in green and will be rocking it today if I ever get around to showeringCan we buy this anywhere!???
I turned G4 off as soon as the clock hit zero and I did not see the confetti. I initially thought it was a joke. It really was their Super Bowl. Would not be surprised if they put a towel in the roof for winning one finals game. Dallas has not been a city of champions in a long time. And the confetti in Dallas. CONFETTI after winning one game.
In 08 there was a power outage in my area, so we finally bit the bullet and drove 45 miles to my son's house to watch the Sox lose to TB. Oh, the Celtics 08 and the Sox 13! Where's my coffee?I'm honestly glad they didn't sweep. It is so much more fun to win at home. I was there in 08 and 13 for the Sox and it was just a party for hours.
I bet the regular season would be a lot of fun to re-watch knowing the ending. This team was so much fun to watch that I am allllmmmooossssttttt sad the season is over. Obviously glad they took care of business, at home no less. But this was an amazing season to watch. Congrats Cs
Great point. I know I didn't enjoy the ride as much as I should have, worrying that the C's would fall short in the playoffs.I bet the regular season would be a lot of fun to re-watch knowing the ending.
What I really love about SOSH is this. Sports are not just about sports. Rabid fandom is not just about rabid fandom. Sports is about family and tradition, and, ultimately, about love. I hope you all feel the warmth of Celtics fans in your life who you have lost along the way. And may you continue to win rings until you are in your 40's Big Al.I just want to say that I love these sorts of stories. Thanks for sharing.
Opposite for me. This was the most enjoyable season of basketball since 1986 for me.Great point. I know I didn't enjoy the ride as much as I should have, worrying that the C's would fall short in the playoffs.
This is such a lovely story. I hope you guys thoroughly enjoyed your ice cream today!I told my daughter last night during bedtime that if the Celtics won tonight, we could get ice cream in the afternoon (she's 4.5yo). That spurred roughly 30 minutes of questions and excitement. A huge mistake to tell her it AT bedtime. Anyway, I woke her up and showed her the picture of Deuce and JT that's already iconic and she asked what it meant. I said, "well, there's confetti everywhere and Deuce looks happy -- what do you think it means?" "It means I get to have ice cream today!!!" and she basically bolted out of bed. I showed her a bunch of highlights during breakfast and she wore her Bill Russell shirt to camp today, evidently telling all her counselors that the Celtics had won the championship.
I'm doing my best to turn her into a basketball fan, goddammit! Hopefully we have 10+ more years of JT and JB and she can grow with them.
I was telling my wife why I wasn't just relieved they won, and so happy, but why I was so happy THIS team won. I'm just so proud of the Jays on and off the court. They seems like genuinely great people -- thoughtful, mature, kind, funny. JT having a kid as a rookie at the age of 19 in the NBA and evidently being one hell of a father while also becoming a top 5 guy is just so impressive. Plenty of athletes in a similar situation don't handle that kind of shit, especially at 19. It's so nice to see these teenagers become men -- role models, at that. It's just all so great.
You actually brought tears to my eyes. Thanks. This is such a lovely story. I hope you guys thoroughly enjoyed your ice cream today!
It reminds me that after the 2011 Pats Super Bowl loss, my kids, then 7 and 3, cried themselves to sleep that night. Most of me was despondent that my shared fandom could cause such trauma in my children. But part of me was proud. They got it. They understood that it was something worth crying about.
You’re doing a great job as a Dad.
It wasn't just Lively, it was pretty clear that their entire team had been directed to be super physical with KP. Literally he was being shoved every single time he moved around, on and off ball. Unfortunately for Dallas, KP did a pretty good job of exaggerating the contact, and he drew 5 fouls in just 16 minutes, 4 of which weren't shooting (2 on Lively, 2 on Washington).Don’t want to take away from the glory of the ice cream posts (married a Yankees fan and ice cream seems a good tactic to encourage our offspring to MY side of the street.)
However, I do want to drop a game thread post and say I am still looking for Dereck Lively payback. He is a piece of shit and I think he repeatedly tried to injure KP and dropped his full weight on Whites face. Can the Cs sign Marty McSorley for one game next season? Asking for a friend.
Yeah the way this series ended is such sweetness that I’ll hold onto for many many moons as well.Lively said Dallas had the Celtics figured out after G4. I think he was wrong. Dallas had Boston figured out after G1. Dallas knew what was coming at them and they could not do anything about it. Watching Luka getting repeatedly hunted while playing the role of a traffic cone on defense and seeing Kyrie put into the spin cycle all while having Dallas' rim runs neutralized will make me happy for a long while.
Nice to see him running his mouth and then having to eat those words; made demolishing them in game 5 even sweeter.Lively said Dallas had the Celtics figured out after G4. I think he was wrong.
