Joe was still coaching when Kyrie tried to congratulate him. The expression on his face was priceless.
Lipreading Joe as Kyrie went around to hug everyone, eventually landing in CJM's space: Okay.
And that was it. Like you can absolutely tell that this okay was stated in the most monotone, Belichick is weary of the media way of saying it too. One of my favorite laughs of the night, great dry stuff.
This team was so much fun to watch that I am allllmmmooossssttttt sad the season is over. Obviously glad they took care of business, at home no less. But this was an amazing season to watch. Congrats Cs

I'm honestly glad they didn't sweep. It is so much more fun to win at home. I was there in 08 and 13 for the Sox and it was just a party for hours.
I turned G4 off as soon as the clock hit zero and I did not see the confetti. I initially thought it was a joke. It really was their Super Bowl. Would not be surprised if they put a towel in the roof for winning one finals game. Dallas has not been a city of champions in a long time.
I was thrilled to see the Celtics win and I am happy that Kyrie and Kidd were on the losing end.
In 08 there was a power outage in my area, so we finally bit the bullet and drove 45 miles to my son's house to watch the Sox lose to TB. Oh, the Celtics 08 and the Sox 13! Where's my coffee?
I bet the regular season would be a lot of fun to re-watch knowing the ending.
Great point. I know I didn't enjoy the ride as much as I should have, worrying that the C's would fall short in the playoffs.
What I really love about SOSH is this. Sports are not just about sports. Rabid fandom is not just about rabid fandom. Sports is about family and tradition, and, ultimately, about love. I hope you all feel the warmth of Celtics fans in your life who you have lost along the way. And may you continue to win rings until you are in your 40's Big Al.

I told my daughter last night during bedtime that if the Celtics won tonight, we could get ice cream in the afternoon (she's 4.5yo). That spurred roughly 30 minutes of questions and excitement. A huge mistake to tell her it AT bedtime. Anyway, I woke her up and showed her the picture of Deuce and JT that's already iconic and she asked what it meant. I said, "well, there's confetti everywhere and Deuce looks happy -- what do you think it means?" "It means I get to have ice cream today!!!" and she basically bolted out of bed. I showed her a bunch of highlights during breakfast and she wore her Bill Russell shirt to camp today, evidently telling all her counselors that the Celtics had won the championship.
I'm doing my best to turn her into a basketball fan, goddammit! Hopefully we have 10+ more years of JT and JB and she can grow with them.
I was telling my wife why I wasn't just relieved they won, and so happy, but why I was so happy THIS team won. I'm just so proud of the Jays on and off the court. They seems like genuinely great people -- thoughtful, mature, kind, funny. JT having a kid as a rookie at the age of 19 in the NBA and evidently being one hell of a father while also becoming a top 5 guy is just so impressive. Plenty of athletes in a similar situation don't handle that kind of shit, especially at 19. It's so nice to see these teenagers become men -- role models, at that. It's just all so great.

It reminds me that after the 2011 Pats Super Bowl loss, my kids, then 7 and 3, cried themselves to sleep that night. Most of me was despondent that my shared fandom could cause such trauma in my children. But part of me was proud. They got it. They understood that it was something worth crying about.

We spent about 15 minutes after dinner trying to picking a WNBA team to root for -- I've got no rooting interest but I think it's important that she sees women playing the game too. We've narrowed the 12 WNBA teams down via what color their uniforms are (she loves green and teal, which is why when she was 2.5 or so, she immediately decided she loved Marcus Smart and his green hair), so I may have to become a New York Liberty fan despite us living in the DC area (she did decide our cat would be a Minnesota Lynx fan).
But tonight at bedtime we talked about how she could pick out a Celtics t-shirt of any player... and she asked for a "green hair guy" shirt. I tried to push her on the Jays, but now I think I have to find a shirsey in size 4T of Marcus Smart. And I told her that there's not a single Celtics fan out there that doesn't love Marcus even though he's not on the team anymore, so she'd be set. But we also had a talk about how Pritchard is the smallest guy on the team but he still did really important things -- so she said she might want a shirt from "the guy who hit that really really really really really long shot".
And we enjoyed our ice cream, yessir.

However, I do want to drop a game thread post and say I am still looking for Dereck Lively payback. He is a piece of shit and I think he repeatedly tried to injure KP and dropped his full weight on Whites face. Can the Cs sign Marty McSorley for one game next season? Asking for a friend.

It wasn't just Lively, it was pretty clear that their entire team had been directed to be super physical with KP. Literally he was being shoved every single time he moved around, on and off ball. Lively said Dallas had the Celtics figured out after G4. I think he was wrong. Dallas had Boston figured out after G1. Dallas knew what was coming at them and they could not do anything about it. Watching Luka getting repeatedly hunted while playing the role of a traffic cone on defense and seeing Kyrie put into the spin cycle all while having Dallas' rim runs neutralized will make me happy for a long while.
Yeah the way this series ended is such sweetness that I’ll hold onto for many many moons as well.
Also, good point @Euclis20 about the rest of the team (bigs in particular) just absolutely leaning all over KP and yanking him around…so not just Lively. That said, he seemed most taken with the task, and he absolutely dropped his weight on Whites face. I get it, on some level there’s a championship on the line and you’re gonna do whatever you can, but his goonery pissed me off.
I was no kind of Uber athlete, more a cardio try hard, but I sure as fuck knew when I wanted to drop my full weight on somebody in a pileup of whatever sport. Lively made the list

One of the most satisfying Boston championships for me, smoked whoever they played on the way to another title, it was beautiful to watch, hardly any real sports stress.
Ranks right up there with the 2018 Red Sox and 2004 Patriots as far as overall enjoyment/virtually no stress.
