Gordon insanely robbed for the 2nd time in his career, he got way closer to legitimately clearing Tacko then I ever thought he would

Alright I’ll be the one to say it. I don’t think it was that impressive. We already know he can jump high, and it’s not like he cleared him.

Should’ve been a tie.. but just goes to show that they need to change the scoring to out of 100 or something.. or add a .5... no way either of those last two dunks aren’t a 50 if they happened earlier

Still better than Jones winning dunk that we've seen dozens of times

That was probably the best dunk contest I’ve seen since I was a small child. Wow.

The two off the side of the backboard were ridiculous.

The next time the NBA asks Aaron Gordon to be in the dunk contest, he should tell them to fuck off.

God I love the dunk contest. So happy the dunks were great this year, even if Gordon should have won.

Gordon may be a better dunker but I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a pure leaper like Derrick Jones Jr.

Outside of Howard, who we all knew would suck, and the screw job at the end it was actually a really great dunk contest. Connaughton was impressive and Jones and Gordon were ridiculous. Gordon is probably the most creative dunker ever in the contest and somehow hasn’t won.

Candace Parker and Common both heavily implied afterwards that the judges agreed before the final dunk to make sure it was a tie and then someone (d wade) went rogue. Congrats NBA on managing to fuck up the best dunk contest in years and it now being basically confirmed on record that wade rigged it for his teammate.

So Pat Connaughton, in his two dunks jumped over two MVPs; I know Mahomes was in the building, was Nikita Kucherov there? Would have been a cool way to string four dunks together.

That was great even if Gordon should have won. But anyone shocked at the outcome clearly didn't look at who comprised the judge panel.

The skills contest aside (I preferred the Dennis Celery AT&T ad to this segment), the whole event was great. That three point shooting contest was electric too.

The modified Elam ending is cool and makes a game that is essentially a group of extremely wealthy athletes showing off their uncontested offensive moves potentially more interesting. I will actually pay attention during the fourth quarter which is not something I have done over the past few years.

As Pablo Torre noted on the Lowe Post this week, the NBA is getting "weird". That is cool.
Ok mea culpa, I read up on Elam Endings more, got obsessed with TPT Elam Ending highlights, and now it’s all I want.

I’m a sucker for well-balanced game mechanics.

I'm a guy that played an unusual amount of Stableford scoring games on my Tiger Woods golf video games, so Elam Endings sound right up my alley. Although it sounds a little like the Seinfeld show sex move: "gave her the old Elam Ending." "With the swirl?"

They are calling the MVP of the All Star Game the Kobe Bryant Award. Forever, it's a permanent change.

That is absolutely insane.

I’m fine with that, if it helps dampen the calls for logo change or league-wide number(s) retirement. He did win four of those awards, after all. Let him be named for the most individual accomplishment in an exhibition game that is all about individual accomplishment.

Kobe isn't even in the Top 15 of all time NBA players. To name this award after him is silly.

1) I think you will find plenty of debate as to whether Kobe is a top 15 player or not
2) Curious how you came to the conclusion that someone needs to be inside the top 15 for an award to be named after tham

I know people are sick of the Kobe tributes but naming the MVP of the All Star Game award after him really isn’t that remarkable or controversial.

if you HAD to name an award after him, it's probably the one to pick.

Without looking anything up, I'll try to name 15 players I think are better than Kobe with the qualifier they had to play at least 10 years.

In no particular order:
Jordan
James
Magic
Bird
Russell
Wilt
KG
Kareem
KD
Duncan
Hakeem
Shaq
Curry
Harden
IT

Harder than I thought but I don't know much about pre 80s basketball either. I'm not even sure I think all those players are better and it is just off the top of my head so I may be missing some players. I'm guessing the majority of people have Kobe in their top 15. I'm guessing most have KG in their top 15 too though.

If you add Jerry West to that list (which I would) then he is not even in the top 5 of players who played for the Lakers, let alone all time.
However, a meaningless award that glorifies individual achievement in a team sport during exhibition games is spot on. Who says the Adam Silver doesn’t have a sense of humor?

Sure, if you really believe all of those guys I named belong ahead of Kobe. I think I reached on quite a few. IT, Harden, Curry. They might be better but if someone wants to say Kobe is better than James Harden or IT I'm not going to be shocked. Plus that's punishing Kobe for being on a storied franchise.

Where would Kobe be on the Celtics all time list if he played most of his entire career as a Celtic? IE Shaq and KG don't count.

Yeah, some of this has gotten borderline ridiculous. He was actually being criticized here for winning 4 ASG MVP's lol.
I made the list and said I was reaching and didn't believe it. It would be more debatable to keep Kobe Bryant off your top 15 list than have him on it. I didn't think I'd have him on mine but I would. I was just thinking of players that some people might rate ahead of Kobe Bryant. I'm sure I'm also vastly underrating pre 1980 players that deserve to be on the list. Oscar Robertson, Jerry West.

Ah gotcha. I was scrolling fast and didn't read the entire context.
