Colin Cowherd was on Timpf's show tonight dumping all over Tatum. There are a few posters here fist pumping him. Tatum had a game of Larry proportions tonight. Suck it, ya'll.

It was an epic game from a super duper star.

I was thinking about this earlier. Jrue is so key. I can't think of a good comp for a Boston team where they brought in a guy who was the missing piece and totally helped solidify the culture. Maybe like Rodney Harrison. Different styles and roles, but similar impact.
A bit late to this thread, but ... Dennis Johnson fits the bill in very much a similar way. GREAT defender with ice cold blood in the clutch.
Whose arrival reinvigorated the whole team (a team swept in round 2 by the Bucks the year before), a key cog in 2 championships.

Gotta ask: given the consistent clutch 3pt shooting, great steals and blocks ... was DW the Celt's best 4th quarter player during these playoffs?

Watched the discussion and interviews on NBA TV in the middle of last night and really liked the group that included Jamal Mashburn, Jamal Crawford and Udonis Haslem. They are all sharp, insightful and appreciative of how great the Celts played this season. They interviewed JB, JT, CJM, Brad, Al and Jrue and to a man the mutual respect and knowledge of the game were on full display. Dennis Scott joined them later and fits in very well with the group. These guys plus Steve Smith are top notch and interesting. I pray that ESPN dumps the trash they’re throwing up against SAS’ wall and go with guys like this next year.

SAS is full of shit. Finals appearances is his new bogey. Fuck him.

Celts have won the most championships, most games, and have better all-time winning % than the MFL

And they did it repping one city and one region.

In head to head its not close, regular season or post-season. Celts lead 9-3 in H2H championships.

And the Celts have a history of being home grown and built with OEM players.

From Wilt to KAJ, to Shaq, to LBJ the Lakers import greatness and championships to stay relevant.

SAS Keep on moving the goalposts, or baskets, you fucking hot take, hot mess dick.

Yes, SAS is sticking with his 'the Lakers have been to more Finals than Celtics so they're more relevant' take all morning. To be fair, if you work at ESPN you are forced at gunpoint to talk Cowboys and Lakers all day no matter what.

I guess by SAS logic the Pats got a lock on the NFL relevant scale and should be good for awhile.

How did that nice little regional sports channel based in Bristol, gets so tainted?

FUCK SAS and that LA-based Mickey Mouse cable co he works for.

ESPN likely won't but that's why we have the NBA TV option. I echo your appreciation of the job they did analyzing the game and series as well as interviewing all the Cs people. That channel is almost always the better option than the mouth-breather fare that the WWL puts out.

The Lakers will remain more relevant so long as the national media keeps pushing them as if they’re the most important franchise in the NBA. I mean, what are we doing here.

Irks me that we’re force fed a shitbag like Draymond or an idiot like Perk. There are so many guys out there that add value.

I would have thought winning a championship yesterday would make you relevant recently. Although hiring an almost mute second-string color man with no coaching experience to be your Head Coach is cool too.

But SAS is a make believe Knicks fan and baiting the Celtics is part of the schtick.

It’s kind of hilarious. They lost in the first round to Denver in 5, whom lost to the Timberwolves, whom lost to the Mavericks, whom the Celtics just destroyed. I have a real hard time seeing them getting much better next year as well.

Exactly right, what are we doing here?

Perk does a YouTube/podcast? with Richard Jefferson and two others where he's much easier to listen to. Last night he basically said that he felt betrayed by the C's when they lost two years ago..where he'd been a Celts homer.. so he didn't trust this team/duo anymore. I'm sure ESPN has something to do with his hot takes, but he seemed very happy last night that they'd won it.

Perk was on Pardon My Take recently and kind of admitted that he is often forced to have an angle so they have something to argue about on air for ratings. He may have felt betrayed by the 2022 team but it seems a lot of what he says is a work for engagement at the behest of producers at ESPN.

Perks' job is to be the fool. Road Tripping his podcast with RJ is way better if you want thoughtful Perk.

I think Perk.. like everyone else at ESPN has realized that if you aren't SAS or SAS lite you're not getting air time...to the detriment of that entire organization.

Perk has a role, ESPN wanted their own Shaq. His job is give a backboard to which Windhorst and Lowe can bounce without going after Stephen A. Perk brings a lot of value to ESPN's NBA team but as the fool.

TNT is the best NBA coverage and The Ringer is fantastically entertaining. ESPN had to step their coverage up a lot and Perk is a part of that as is JJ who they are going to lose. Crap Skip is better with Pierce and Keyshawn.

NBA sports talk is just so much better than other sports. We can hit on the Ringer but even wrong they at least get you to think.

I am curious what NBC and Amazon are going to do. NBC sort of has Rich Eisen and they could move Che? I don't think Tirico could carry a studio show with athletes. I am little shocked they aren't using the Olympics to try some things out (Bob Fitzgerald is the play by play guy from the Warriors is calling the games).

’ll give it a listen, thanks fellas. And RJ, a guy I didn’t like as a player, has turned out to be pretty good when I hear him calling games. Maybe he brings the best out of Perk.

Stephen A. Smith says the Lakers are still a better franchise than the Celtics "[The Lakers'] time spent in relevancy is significantly more than [the Celtics]."

Do you mean Michael Che? I don't think that would work. He's got some pretty stupid opinions about basketball (specifically WNBA) and I don't think he can be the level of professional they need

Che is really good at holding court. He is the head writer of SNL. I think it isn't a slam dunk but I am not sure who NBC is going to dig up. I would guess they grab Kenny and Shaq. Garnett is still under contract with Viacom. Do they drag up Forsburg or White Mamba?

Actually White Mamba, Shaq, and Kenny would be a tremendous show, you could probably put Tirico in the middle of them. Then again if they could get Eisen you would be in a good spot there.

There's already buzz that Barkley won't retire, and it's more likely he'll end up at NBC. Porting him, Kenny and Shaq there with a new Ernie (if WBD won't let him leave) is probably the best outcome.

It's highly unlikely that Disney would outbid NBC for those guys. They'll continue to run with Stephen A. and his gang of idiots.

But the Lakers spent a whole decade fighting through Dale Ellis, Kiki Vandeweghe, Alvan Adams, Reggie Theus, Adrian Dantley and Purvis Short to make the Finals. Don't you understand how daunting that gauntlet was????

We had to get through Reggie Theus once too. Not a name that gets thrown around very often.

You play the games on the schedule. Kareem and Magic had a waltz to the finals for a whole decade, but it's not exactly their fault. One really good Houston team beat them in 86. Utah didn't have a 50-win team until the 89 season. West was cake. But at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter.

They are? His breakdowns were excellent throughout the playoffs and he was just on SVP last night and they said nary a peep about it being his last Finals. That’s a bummer.

Edit: I must’ve missed the last segment where SVP implores his bosses to keep him. This is awesome:

Of course, today the discourse among the dickbags I call co-workers here in Laker land is that most of our championships were won before color TV. Funny how no one makes that argument to Yankees fans.

I would LOVE for it to be a 4 or 5 game utter beatdown. It would be nothing but mea culpas for a month.
Happily, the Celtics delivered. And the pairing for our soup entree is braised crow.

Here is the thing. If people stopped paying attention to Nick Wright takes - because we probably have school aged lurkers who have more insight - they would likely go away.

When people respond to his little petty Tweets here all they are doing is getting spun up off of what trolly thing Wright says and he wins.

Don't let the Nick Wrights of the world win.

I don’t honestly believe that half of these people actually thought the Mavs would win the series. It’s all TV bullshit. There’s nothing compelling about picking the 64 win regular season team that was 12-2 heading into the Finals.
Agreed, while I think a couple of them are absolute morons I do suspect that some of this is theatre. That is also, as an aside, part of why Luka's defense isn't talked about as much---it's bad for the product to dump on one of the heroes. It isn't that, say, Redick is unaware Luka's defense is atrocious...it's that it isn't helpful for ESPN's purpose to say it too often, or too early.

That acknowledged, the narrative on Dallas is not all theatre either. Guys who I absolutely do not think are just hamming it up like the Dunker Spot hosts split on the series, too. I agree with the above---and believe I picked Celts in 5 (or maybe 6 at most) in poll but for some set of reasons (Luka!!! Celtics choke late?) there was more support for Dallas than I think the track records merited.

SVP was on Russillo just going in on how stupid he thought it was that people didn't get Boston was way better. He said he couldn't believe Legler choose the Mavs and him and Windhorst were making fun of him.

I get it that as an emerald-tinted glasses wearing fan base, we may have our bias (RIP), and may perceive that which we hope for, but what exactly were the pundits/experts watching this year? This team has been on the precipice for several years and while not perfect are fucking really good. I get that outrageous hot takes are click bait, but did these folks really think a two trick pony was going to win a 7-games series against a much deeper team that plays suffocating D? I thought this was a 5-6 gamer (maybe one Luka explosion and maybe one Celt brain fart). It was pretty clear that among the western options this was a very favorable Celtic favorable match-up. The Celts D lassoed, broke and branded a leprechaun on the Mavs.

Must have been SAS's first rodeo.

YEEE-FUCKING HAW
