The cradle of the game.
The 63rd Daytona 500 started at 3:00 EST, got in 15 laps before it started raining (like it does every day at that time) and is now under weather delay/red flag. The weather is finally passing and the dryer trucks are flame broiling the water off the track. (It's almost like the gods are BEGGING NASCAR to take this race prime time.)

Looks like a decent shot at restarting on a Sunday night and with very little television viewing competition, I may have to watch.

Wonder how those truck dryer things would work with snow and ice? AFAF.

Rotten luck for NASCAR if they can't get it in tonight; they had horrible luck with the weather last year. In some ways they were very lucky they had The Big One early into the race so it could give them something to talk about/show highlights of during the delay.

They are estimating green flag at 9 EST.

And AFAIC, it's not bad luck, it's bad planning. It literally rains there at 3:30 every day. You can set your watch to it.

Well, if it rains every day at 3:30 pm there is no way around that, unless you wanted to start the race at 10 a.m.

They had bad luck not just at Daytona, but at a lot of races, especially when they first came back and were one of the only sports going. Lot of long rain delays and Monday races.

Why not start it in the evening?

You could, but it would still be a risk if the rain comes every day. It would be touch-and-go every time if you could get track dry in time, and you would have way less wiggle-room.

It doesn’t rain every afternoon in Feb. It’s the dry season. Didn’t they go like 50 years in a row without a rain delay?

I, for one, am very excited about this year's chase. Chase Elliot will win this year.
Elliot is probably a lock for winning the most races this year; he is the road course ringer and they stacked the schedule with those types of races.

Like 12 different guys trying to make a big run on the last lap and they basically all eat it, Michael McDowell slides through and wins.

Looked like it was basically kicked off by McDowell pushing whoever it was in second place (I've already forgotten which of them it was) into Logano.

14 years as a top flight driver and McDowell gets his first career win.

I don't think McDowell pushed Keselowski really. He got right under him which is what your supposed to do, and Keselowski got really aggressive and pushed up against Logan which caused the wreck. Dillon, Harvick and Wallace were all making big runs on the inside which had everyone backed up three wide which made the crash more spectacular.

Yeah, it would be better at night, but I like the gimmick and it's a nice connection to the real roots of racing in this country.

Bubba Wallace wins his first ever NASCAR race; it was raining while he was in the lead and they stopped the race and they won't finish it before dark so they called it. The race had already been postponed due to rain yesterday, which is why it started on a Monday afternoon.

It's the exact kind on controversial win that will send the most undesirable sections of the NASCAR fanbase over the edge and I am here for it.

Probably the most significant win by any driver in Cup Series history. Couldn't be happier for him.
