Protests have been going on far longer than the past few seasons. The green and gold campaign started while Ferguson was still the manager. To say they are just protesting now because the team is shit is ridiculous.

The scale of protests has grown larger over the past year because of 1. The super league debacle and 2. The rumors that the glazers may want to sell.

The owners have taken out between 1 and 1.5 billion pounds out of the club. Nobody is asking them to put their own money into it. If they let the club run and spend it’s profits on players and facility upgrades nobody would protest.
Oh wow. I had no idea that was the case. I wasn't aware of it until the whole ESL thing went down.

Looked it up to be sure. Started January 24rd, 2010. The first protest about the Glazers that included a March outside Old Trafford.

Even though it's early in the season, this match feels like a must win for both teams, perhaps more for Liverpool. If Liverpool draw or lose and it's probably bye bye title. Utd lose and it just piles on the agony on and off the field. A draw isn't a bad result for Utd.

The neutral in me just wants carnage and excitement.

As a Spurs fan I have no idea what I want to happen here. I guess a draw.

I remember the protests being a regular discussion on World Football Daily and that show effectively ended in 2011.

Utd have been playing beautifully. Sancho also hit the post. Pool could be down 2-0 or more.

Diaz now back with a nice give and go, shot is off but it's lively.

Nothing would surprise me here. I think a barnburner like Newcastle-City is a good bet. Like fletch says, carnage. The Toffee fan in me would not mind if Pool were only a point ahead of us tbh.

I didn't think I would but I really like those away kits.

Loving this!

I disagree that anything but a win is bye bye title for Pool. City just dropped points FFS. Arsenal look stronger than last year. Spurs look stronger than last year. Newcastle the same. Winner won't make it to 90 points.

It's shaping up to be a really fascinating season up-and-down the table. Arsenal and Spurs look better than last year; Chelsea and LFC feel like they are worse, or at least have more question marks. Teams like Brighton, Fulham, Leeds and Palace off to encouraging starts. West Ham and Everton looking punchless. United being United. It feels totally out of control where like, 15 teams could be worried about the drop.

Wow, VVD easily dispossessed Rash 1v1 in wide open space. That's a world class defender right there. Rash also needs to do much much better there.

Then throw in a winter World Cup, which presumably will be draining on teams that have multiple internationals, and it should be absolutely wild and unpredictable.

First 15 minutes Pool were incredibly nervous - ManU should have been up 2-0 . They will rue that miss.

MUCH better the rest of the half. No idea why Fabinho isn’t playing .. Klopp has to get him on for Milner.

Fabinho and Carvalho are pretty much it for the bench.

Agree. Gaping Thiago-sized hole in MF, but Fab can at least give them something different. Bobby and Luis having to drop too deep to create offense. Kloppo should also try to get Robbo further up to contribute in attack.

Fab has been dogshit. That’s why he isn’t playing. I suspect he’s hurt.

I'm provisionally glad to see Elanga off. We'll have to see what Martial brings under ETH, but Elanga but in a shift that first half.

Can Carvalho come on for Milner? Can that work balance wise, cos he's got bags of pace, he's tricky - and i don't think Milner is affecting this match in a positive sense right now.

That is… Wow. After enduring years of elbows being offside, that is on?

I’m falling further and further down the “EPL VAR Conspiracy Theory” bandwagon. PMGOL is intentionally breaking the tools at its disposal to protest. It isn’t this bad anywhere else.

FC United of Manchester was formed nearly 20 years ago.

It seems to simple to say Liverpool just look tired this year, but given their season last year plus the short off season, I feel like its a huge factor in their performance this year. This would be a bad loss...certainly too early to make season long predictions, but given how wretched United have looked. Ugly.

The whole right side of the Man Utd defense is on a yellow and Diaz has barely touched the ball all second half. I don't understand the game plan. It's not like the right wing side is working so well.

A SkySports stat quoted over the Guardian’s live feed.

“United have made 106 sprints to Liverpool’s 62.”

I agree.

They're a half step late to the loose balls, Salah's had a few shots blocked when he's just not been that sharp in teeing it up and the defender's jumped it. TAA seems really off his game.

Klopp has ridden his main men very hard over the past few seasons.
